First off I just want to say how much I love the cover, it really give off that mystery/kidnapping vibes. Secondly, This book has lots of intrigue. One girl who can see the future and one who can see the past need to help each other to save the other. Now, while I wouldn’t say it’s the most original concept it was perfectly executed. It was a nice quick read and I think this is a perfect read for fans of supernatural mystery’s. Thank you to Macmillan and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this ARC.

I will definitely purchase this title for my high school library and put it in the hands of my Karen McManus and Kara Thomas fans. Mystery is the top demand from my students, and this one will be perfect for recommending to even the reluctant readers. The pacing is smooth, and the main character, Hayden, is relatable. I would’ve liked to see more development of Cassie and Brody’s characters, but that would likely make the book too long for my target recommendation audience. As for the plot, there are twists and turns that keep it from being too predictable, even for readers like me who read lots of YA mystery, but it’s a satisfying read that doesn’t emotionally destroy you by the end, the way some do.

I see a new formula hitting the YA shelves... and this was not a great execution of it. This brings nothing new to the genre and the mystery felt like Pretty Little Liars meets angst. It was predictable and highly improbable.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Macmillan for a digital copy of this title in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions expressed are entirely my own. I can honestly say, I did not see any of that coming. If you want a book to keep you on the edge of your seat: read this. I did not expect any of the twists and turns in the story. I also didn't guess the suspects and the cause of the mystery. I still have more questions too! This is one of the best YA thrillers I have read and I want a sequel!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC so that I can offer an honest review.

I really enjoyed the premise of this novel and was excited to read it. Hayden, a teen who gets flashes of things that have happened in the past, clashes with Cassie, a girl who can see bits of the future. Although Cassie knows bad things are ahead, she is unable to prevent them from happening to her! A rescue mission ensues.

Although I liked several elements of the story, I struggled to finish it. The dialogue between the characters is very cliched and made some of the characters unlikable (especially Hayden). The reason why characters have the abilities they have is poorly explained (a genetic mutation....maybe?) I also thought the leading man was forgettable. The book also switches between perspectives which causes issues with pacing at times.

I think fans of teen drama could like this one, but the mystery is lackluster and does not reach an extremely satisfying conclusion.

Slow start to this mystery I wouldn't really call a thriller but the second half picks up. While written from two points of view, there isn't much development of Cassie but mostly Hayden as she works to solve who kidnapped Cassie. Hayden with the help of two "friends", on being the sheriff's daughter with her visions of the past help to solve the mystery. She too ends up with the boyfriend. That the two girls each have visions, on the past, one the future makes the story. It still bothers me that teens put themselves in danger by not trusting adults. A treat in that it was a clean book without sex and profanity.

When I read the summary of this book, I knew I had to read it. It sounded so good! It did not disappoint either. I thought it dragged on a little bit in spots but overall it kept me wanting to read more to find out what happened. I didn’t figure out the mystery part of it at all. I really enjoyed this one! All views and opinions stated in this review are all my own. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the arc in return for an honest review!

I love thrillers and usually I guess the plot of the book fairly early on but this was so much fun! Hayden’s investigation was so compelling that I couldn’t put this down! Full review will be on pop-culturalist.com closer to pub date.

First of all, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance reading copy of this book. I enjoyed You Should Have Seen This Coming, and I have no doubt that my students will as well. It will fit right in with our suspense and mystery novels, which I can't keep on the shelves right now.

However, while You Should Have Seen This Coming was enjoyable, there wasn't anything about it that stands out enough that will push it to the top of my recommendation list or make it feel like a "must read" above others in the genre. I liked the fact that there were two perspectives, but I didn't feel like they were equally developed, and I wish I could have spent more time getting to know Cassie in order to feel more invested in her side of the story. I also felt like the sheriff's role in bringing people with powers together wasn't as well-developed as it could have been. I know this would have led to a longer book, but I almost wish I could have read more exposition and deeper subplots in a duology.

Overall, though, I'm glad I read this book, and I'll purchase it for my students who can't get enough mystery and suspense in their lives.

I liked this book because it was an unconventional suspense. The addition of two people with visions made the plot even more twisted. There was a tiny bit of romance but mostly focused on the mystery of what happened to Cassie. Loved the ending!

If you're a fan of Holly Jackson or Maureen Johnson, then this is a great option! It's told from the viewpoint of two girls, Hayden and Cassie, who happen to have visions-- Hayden of the past and Cassie of the future.

They don't start as friends, but eventually, they become a part of each other's lives when Cassie goes missing, and Cassie's best friend, Audra, and ex-boyfriend, Brody, enlist Hayden to help.

The love story in this was a little too much for me, but it fits in with the YA trope. I wasn't a huge fan of Hayden, either, and that was tough because the book was mainly her voice.

However, it was fun, and you definitely want to know what's happening! I would recommend to young adults.

Hayden is tired of moving around and feeling out of place in every school she attends. Part of the reason she feels out of place is that she can see the past by touching objects. Her mother is a powerful empath who struggles with her gift, so Hayden must be the one in charge. She uses her gift to make money by blackmailing people in her new school.. This seems to not be a problem until she blackmails the wrong person. Once caught, Hayden is given a job by the sheriff to work in his office. Once she starts working there, she finds herself caught up in an investigation to find a fellow student who has gone missing. What Hayden learns is that this student, Cassie, also has a gift, the ability to see into the future. Can Hayden be the key to finding Cassie?

A fun mystery full of twists and turns. Sure, it's pretty far-fetched with a few folks who have psychic visions thrown in the mix, but the mystery was a fun one to solve. When one girl who has visions of the future is kidnapped, can she be saved by the new girl at school who has visions of the past?

Another YA story with each chapter being told from different characters' perspectives. It works and was entertaining. The beginning was a bit slow, but the last 40% was jam packed with "I need to find out how this ends" feelings. 3 1/2 stars.

Told in dual distinct voices, one full of teenage wit, and the other from a girl in peril, this YA suspense story explores the relationship between destiny and the ability to create your own future. A supernatural mystery at heart, YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING by Shani Michelle, is the perfect balance of psychic thriller and teen angst.

I couldn’t put it down!

This psychological thriller is perfect for fans of Karen McManus and Jennifer Barnes, The Inheritance Games series.

Cassie can see the glimpses of the future and she’s knows something bad is going to happen. If Hayden touches things, she can see the past and uses that knowledge to blackmail members of her snotty high school. But when Cassie goes missing, Hayden helps her two besties, Brock and Audra, try to find her. Only to discover everyone is keeping secrets… even their parents.

I felt like a psychic detective putting together clues from the past, present, and future. The climax was worth the build up. The characters were drawn believably flawed and the romance was perfect.

A thrilling read from the first page.

A fabulous new YA book! I devoured it. Quickly paced and intriguing, YA readers and adults alike will enjoy this one, particularly fans of recent mystery hits such as the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series.

Thanks to Macmillan & NetGalley for the opportunity to enjoy an ARC of this book!
