As much as I enjoyed the book one in coven daughter series , hex , love , rock and roll , which was exceptional and set a very unreachable benchmark , that this book didn't reach. It was bland when it comes to the emotions , Jonnie was amazing , but eve felt toxic and inadequate.A balance of emotions between both the characters would have made the book much more interesting. The plot was very good and exciting , if given a few emotions to the mix , it would be an amazing read. Keeping in mind book one , can't wait to read the next book in the series

I admit to not reading book#1 in this series, but was easily able to slide in at book #2 and engage in this pre-built world without issue.

We join Eve, a funeral director who has the gift of being able to set souls to rest. There's some extra stuff she gets with that, hearing them, feeling responsible for them, occasionally making mistakes that end up sentencing them to a horrible afterlife, etc. It's this last bit that has her in a fragile state when Jonnie approaches her. You see, he believes he is turning into a vampire. Somehow work of her gifts got to his stage crew and he hunted her down (ya know, like a vampire).

His anti-aging treatment is definitely doing something to him, but Even doesn't exactly jump at the chance to try to help him. It takes some convincing, but they end up on a grand adventure to figure out how his "ailment" may tie in to her fouled up soul issue. Along the way we get a healthy dose of dirty, smutty, goodness, some other paranormal folks, lots of questionable choices, and ultimately a happy ending. The witchy aspects of this appear to tie in to the larger series storyline, so I'm sure you get a little more out of the other characters if you started from book 1, but I managed just fine.

I really wanted to like this one, the premise is great. But there were so many instances of word usage or grammar being just a bit off, because the author was trying to have a rich sensory writing style. Needs editing.

A big thank you to NetGalley and City Owl Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This was an enjoyable read. Different from the beginning. It felt fresh and I liked all the characters. Eve has an interesting job and Jonnie well read to find out. Instant attraction 4 stars

This book offers a unique take on vampires. There were several parts of the book that I enjoyed, however others I did not like. One of the parts I liked was Jonnie’s character development, he grew and accepted a new path forward. The story has a lot of details, for me it was way too many. The large amount of very descriptive scenes made it difficult for me to keep focused on the plot, especially the first 20-30%. The fact that vampires were being created medically and magical twist kept me reading. It is worth taking the time to read, give it a try

An interesting take on the vampire romance genre. I enjoyed the setting and the characters. Sometimes the storyline felt a little rushed, but the dialogue sparkled and the heroine and her issues with guilt and an angry spirit were well done. Jonnie was a cool character who balanced Evelyn out, although those around him really gave me the ick. An enjoyable, quirky and interesting book.

You and me, we’re special. Meaningful. And I know it’s frightening. And hard. But the most rewarding things in life are. They’re scary. And strange. Not easy. But that’s how you know it’s the good stuff.”
Thank you, NetGalley and City Owl Press for providing me with an eARC. This is my honest review.

First, let me start by saying I loved Ms. Turner’s first book. I loved everything about it, from the characters, to her writing, to the story itself. I was so happy to get the ARC for this one because... vampire rock star + clairsentient woman + love story? Sign me up, every time.

What really worked for me was Jonnie’s character. It may have taken him a while to embrace his vampire self, but it doesn’t take him that long to get in touch with his feelings for Eve. He’s so loving, kind, and so open it’s refreshing. It’s not a coincidence that all my quotes here come from him. I think he really is a wonderful character.

When it comes to Eve, I just couldn’t fully connect. I understand what she’s been through, I get her doubts and her insecurities, but it just didn’t work for me. Even the compassion she’s supposed to show didn’t feel real to me. It may be an unpopular opinion, I know.

They had chemistry together, a lot of it. The sex is steamy, with what I suppose would be considered a kinky element, but I don’t see it as such, I see it as deep trust instead. I just couldn’t feel the love, especially when it came to her feelings for him. Their love story felt rushed to me, and kind of lost its strength among everything else.

I found the first 20% or so of the book to be too descriptive, with nothing much going on, and I think more time could have been spent on their relationship. Bottom line, I needed more romance.

I did enjoy the science/magic part of the book, and I thought it was original. I love that we got to see Brian and Helen from the first book again, and how this book ties in to the first one, even if it is a standalone.

”They were two pieces, he and she, that never fit.
But she did fit. She fit with him, in their own bizarre puzzle. The two of them together sculpted a new whole out of broken, damaged, and cast off parts.”
This was a 2.5 for me. I enjoyed their HEA. She feels toxic and inadequate, he searches for validation. They’re both broken and lonely, even if not alone. They both needed someone to open up to, and to trust, so I’m happy they fit together in the end.

In any case, I’ll be looking forward to more books from Ms. Turner.

Thank you City Owl Press and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The premise of the story is that Eve is a clairsentient mortician who is stalked by an angry spirit. She eventually meets a rockstar named Jonnie who wants to cure his vampirism. The unlikely duo work together to solve their own issues while uncovering dark facts about who is really causing a rise in dark magical incidents.

I really liked Eve’s character she was charming and funny and flawed. She felt realistic and relatable. I thought her and Jonnie’s relationship felt a little rushed but I liked them together. Jonnie really balances out Eve and I love that she was initially reluctant to help him. It really helped build the tension. Also even though Jonnie is a rockstar he is down to earth and kind. He cares deeply for his niece and sister and eventually Eve.

I liked how this book took a twist on classic vampire lore and added new science and a modern aspect. How far some celebrities will go to chase the fountain of youth and what is hiding under the surface of these fad procedures. These elements really added a nice mystery to the overall story. I haven’t read the previous book but I didn’t feel that took away from this overall story since they are standalones.
