I had enjoyed the first book with Delphine, this book had so much enjoyable elements. I loved that this became its own thing and just uses Cinderella as a stepping stone. I really enjoyed reading this book, it was action-packed and fun.

I am usually not a fan of sequels, but Delphine and the Dark Thread was an adventurous sequel that was worth reading from beginning to end. In my review of Delphine and the Silver Needle, I could not help but picture a modern, contemporary version of The Great Mouse Detective, but I think this was more exciting and more modern which made it even more enjoyable. I am also not always a fan of introducing a exuberant number of new characters in a sequel due to its difficulty following along disrupting the flow of the plot. The method Alyssa Moon used while structuring Delphine and the Dark Thread was brilliantly completed, and it was evident that she was thinking of her target audience when writing this book. I can totally seeing this book series turning into a movie sooner than later.

An enticing story to empower us all even at the size of mice. This book deserves 5 stars.

Delphine and the Dark Thread is the second book in the Delphine series by author Alyssa Moon that invites young readers on a journey with Cinderella’s bravest mouse.

Following on from the first book, Delphine and The Silver Needle, the sequel continues the Lord of the Rings-style quest; delivering action, adventure, and magic in the most unexpected places.

For newcomers to the series, Silver Needle introduces us to Delphine; a young, orphaned dressmaker mouse living in the walls of Cinderella’s chateau. After being summoned to the castle for a dress consultation by Princess Petits-Oiseaux, Delphine stumbles upon a life-changing secret that sheds light on her mysterious past as well as the disappearance of the magical tailor mice of legend known as the Threaded. When fearsome rat King Midnight gets wind of Delphine’s quest, Delphine and her pompous traveling companion Alexander must work hard and fast to find answers and stay ahead of King Midnight and his henchrats. Full of strange enemies, unlikely allies and more than one brush with death, Delphine must be braver than she ever imagined in order to save the kingdom.

Dark Thread starts fresh off the heels of King Midnight's rat-army invasion at the Winterberry Ball. Delphine, Alexander, and Cornichonne are on the run, making their way through the far reaches of Peltinore. Unlikely allies pop up at every turn, but so do new enemies. While evading the rats hot on their tails, the trio uncovers new clues about the legendary Threaded tailor mice, including surprising discoveries about Delphine's magical needle. As Delphine's powers grow stronger, she realizes she may need to head straight into Midnight's lair and confront the villain herself.

Dark Thread is another beautifully written book and a worthy continuation of the epic adventure that begins in Silver Needle. Moon again peppers in poetry, songs, interludes, and different points of view to give readers a broader grasp of the story. The mystery of Elodie and Rien’s friendship in the past and how it impacts Delphine and her mission in the present is revealed in this book and is my favorite part of the tale. Their story is neatly intertwined with the main plot, and Delphine’s discoveries about her past and theirs become the reader’s own.

There are two prongs of Dark Thread that serve as the overall motivations for the story which young readers will likely find compelling: Delphine’s immediate quest to confront and defeat Midnight, and Delphine’s personal quest to uncover the secrets of the Threaded and learn more about herself. Both prongs contain magic and mischief; trial and tribulation. They also weigh in on the significance of personal choices. These themes will confront-but-delight young readers.

The relationships between Delphine, Alexander and Cornichonne, as well as other characters, also deepens and enriches the saga. Delphine’s heated, anxious disposition is tempered by calm Ysabeau, the princess’s “pawmaid”, and by jovial, light-hearted Alexander. The challenges the characters face in this book are more intense and the journey feels much longer. Similarly to Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the story did slow down and dwindle at certain points which I attribute to being a “middle” book. However, the value of the story is not lost and it wraps up neatly – it also packs a punch with a big reveal at the end.

An essential part two of the journey for Delphine fans, Delphine and the Dark Thread is not to be missed.

Delphine, Alexander, and Cornichonne are on the run after the invasion of the rat army. As they travel, the mystery begins to unravel, but Delphine realizes that maybe she can conquer the villan herself. This is quite a fun read, and one late elementary and early middle grade readers will love.

I was very excited for this book to come out and it did not disappoint at all. It picks up right where it left off getting you right back into the action. Delphine's character growth is amazingly done and you really get to watch her bloom and see her discover hate isn't the solution to anything. The characters are just as amazing as they were in the previous book making you laugh out loud a couple times. The plot twists in the book I think were done very well even though I was able to predict them. The ending was a nice tie up to the story but leaves the door open for the future of Delphine and her friends and what will await them in the future. Overall 4.5/5 stars!

The second book in this series picks up shortly after the first one finished. Delphine, Alexander and Cornichonne are continuing their quest to locate King Midnight and save the mouse kingdom. As the story unfolds, readers travel with them as they engage with other characters and continue to develop their own friendships. Moon offers the opportunity to see that both the mice and the rats have their good and not so good traits. I appreciate this emphasis on the complexity of communities and finding balance and peace. As they travel, Delphine continues to practice her magic and learns how to make the needle do as she wishes. Sadly, she experiments with both love and hate/fear in her heart. She is too stubborn to listen to Alexander and Cornichonne's advice about working together as she convinces herself she must kill Midnight. The underlying tension as she wrestles with this allows readers to work through their own thoughts as well.
In the end, Midnight's former character is revealed and readers will see why the interlude stories have been woven into these two books. The Epilogue hints at further adventures to come as does some of the conversation in the final chapter at the royal ball.

Delphine and her ragtag group of adventures is still on the hunt to stop King Midnight. In this tale Delphine is faced with dealing with the fall out from the broken treaty, learning more about her origins, and trying to harness her magic. Can Delphine find out how to embrace her magic in time to bring down the evil King Midnight? Or will the fact that the treaty between mice and rats being broken put more obstacles in her way?

I think this book nicely tied together where the last book ended and continued Delphine's story. I loved how her discovering her past leads her to discover who she truly is and how she is going to deal with finally coming face to face with King Midnight. Nothing in this book is truly what it seems, and the flash back to the past tie so nicely into the final story that everything comes together so beautifully. As an older reader there were some pieces that I expected, but there are still a couple twists in this tale that you wouldn't expect. I think this is a perfect tale for any young reader looking for a daring adventure with a strong female lead.

I enjoyed this follow up to Delphine’s first adventure, I felt like it continued the story very naturally and brought it to a satisfying conclusion, (though it seems there is possibly room for more story). I really liked reading about the adventure the characters went on and I liked how the story wrapped up nicely at the end and we got a few more mentions of Cinderella and Gus and Jaq. I also liked reading about the relationship between Delphine and Alexander, it was very cute. Overall a great enjoyable read!

I was excited to dive back into this Middle Grade Fantasy world. Delphine was a great character to read about in the first book and I liked that the plot tied into Cinderella, even if it was brief mentions. The sequel is just as fun and exciting as the first!

The book is told from two point-of-views, the rats and the mice. For the rats, it was usually King Midnight but there were two others that had their own as well. The mice one was mostly from Delphine but did have a few here and there from another that was tied to the past. The past point-of-view really helped to bridge the gap and give more details.

Delphine has grown since book one but she still continues to grow throughout this one as well. She must learn to believe in herself as much as those around her do. It isn’t always easy for her and it is something that is very relatable not just for children but also for adults. Delphine also needs to understand what is right and wrong and has to choose between gaining more power for the right reasons, but having that much power has consequences.

The plot is filled with a war of rats versus mice which started in book one but really takes off in this one. It is also filled with finding out about the past to figure out what the needle is used for and who Delphine is. It was exciting to see everything come together! There are some surprising twists that I honestly didn’t see coming.

I think my favorite part about this series is the messages that children can take away from it when it comes to kindness, bravery, and believing in yourself. Those things are so important!

Overall, this was another enjoyable book!

This novel was a charming Middle Grade book and I was excited when I was offered Delphine and The Dark Thread by NetGalley, Disney Publishing, and the author Alyssa Moonto to read and write an honest review. I had just finished reading book one, Delphine and The Silver Needle, which, I purchased for my personal library .Book one, we are introduced to Delphine as a pinkie mouse, and she was placed on the steps Cinderella's Chateau. Lying next to Delphine was a human size needle, and this became a great mystery. The novel was not a retelling of Cinderella, rather it was a story of a mouse named Delphene, her friend Alexander, and thier transportation via a cat named Cornichonne. The first book ends as a set up for book two, I feel like the novels need to be read together and not as seperate stand alone novel.
Book two was slightly darker than book one, where Delphine and her friends were on a journey. The novel opened with the rats having a battle with the mice. The rats are in search of the needle, and serve King Midnight and as the Monarch, he demands that he should possess the silver needle. Delphine was driven to find the King and figure out how to stop him from possessing the needle' and its magic.. The novel was filled with adventure and many additional characters made up for a fun story,.. I enjoyed the novel so much that I preordred this version to add to my previous novel. As a result, I give this novel a five out of five stars.

I absolutely love these books and I look forward to .more from Delphine, Alyssa Moon has done a wonderful job of describing everything down to the tiniest detail and it really makes for a wonderful read!

No one knows anything about the mouse or her history. This book is about her search to find out who she is, where she came from and why she had a human needle. She has quiet the adventure with different characters helping her.
