Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily.
This book is a complex mix of mystery and family relationships touching on the paranormal versus science. I do not intend to reveal any of the story; no spoilers! I found the concepts and plot very interesting, and liked the characters. The author's descriptions of everything from Annie's feelings to the scenery were detailed, allowing the reader to understand the confusion in her life. I enjoyed this book very much, but was a little disappointed with the way Annie's life turned out, although even the ending holds a final twist.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.

In one word: Wow. WOW, even. An original plot with likeable characters and the magic of possibility. A perfect book to read curled up in your favorite reading spot on a rainy day, left alone for several hours to lose yourself in Annie's world...or worlds, as the case is here.

The author brings alive the story with much more than words. She mentions lilacs, and right away the reader is there. You can feel the raindrops on that fateful day and feel the snow at the end. The author has a great ear for good dialogue and her descriptions of people and places and events pull us into the story every step of the way.

I could not put this book down until it was done. I was happy with the ending. I hope the author continues to write and I look forward to any other fiction she writes.

Thank you, Netgalley, and thank you, Kelley McNeil.

This is a heartbreaking and mysterious story. Truly difficult for me to explain, as I’m still processing it. But I can’t stop thinking about it. Recommended

I though this was the perfect book..and I never say this about fiction circa 2021. the style of writing fits the fluid nature of time and
perception while being grounded in this history of time and place. the ending fits the story and feels right. the best debut novel I’ve read this year

A remarkably wonderful debut novel by Kelley McNeil. It’s a haunting story about the what if’s of a path you might have taken versus the life you live.

Annie has been in a terrible car accident and wakes up only to find the daughter she believes she has the husband she believed were hers are fallacies she doesn’t understand or know how to deal with.

What if you woke up and everything you believed your life was, wasn’t real?

This story intricately weaves through the story of family, of love and loss, the reality vs the perceived.

Thank you to #netgalley, #lakeunionpublishing, and #KelleyNcNeil for affording me the opportunity to read this story.

Enjoyed it. I loved the mystery of trying to solve what happened to Annie. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of fantasy. There definitely needs to be a huge suspension of belief. I liked most of the book, but at times it was hard to wrap my mind around what was truly happening to Annie. Then there was her mom and that drawing at the end. It was easier to believe there was some kind of mental illness occurring than a possibility of alternate dimensions. If I was Graham or Marcie, I probably would have had Annie committed. Especially after what happened to Annie and Marcie's mom. I didn't love the characters (except for Charlie) but I found the story interesting, until the end. Honestly, I thought Annie was going to wake up in the hospital and realize she was dreaming this whole time. She kept having so many flashbacks, I was confused on whether that happened or if it was a false memory. Then Annie was able to merge everything and wrap up both lives into a nice little bow. I read too many murder stories and watch too much ID Channel and thought something horrible might have really happened to Hannah. I was waiting to find out that Annie accidently killed her and Graham and Marcie were trying to help her forget what really happened. I loved the names of their chickens.

Definitely recommend giving the book a try. Look forward to reading more books by the author. Loved the cover of the book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Lake Union Publishing, through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I got no hint from the book information that this was going to be a part fantasy story or I wouldn’t have chosen it. However I’m glad I did read it as for the most part I really enjoyed reading it. I guess I’m just too sensible to let myself go fully into the story but it’s a well told and an interesting premise. I loved the first two thirds and didn’t hate the rest by a long way. I still wouldn’t chose this genre but I recommend this book.

Absolutely riveting! Is unputdownable a word? If not, I am inventing it to describe this book! It’s hard to review this without giving any spoilers, so I’m not gonna say anything more… If you love unusual fiction with a unique premise and believable characters, this is the one for you!

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Anne and her 5 yo daughter, Hannah are on their way to the pediatrician during a bad storm and they had a horrible car accident. She wakes up in the hospital asking where is Hannah and everyone tells her she has no daughter. Has she been living a lie for years? Wow this was such a fascinating and intriguing story and I could not figure out how it was going to end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. I met my reading challenge this year. This is book #150 for 2021!!

The premise of this story sounded fascinating, and for most of this book I was page turning, I couldn’t even imagine.
I didn’t realize that this was a fantasy story, but then wouldn’t we all want to do what our heart aches for?
I think I was expecting a psychological thriller, but this was completely different, and I guess for me I don’t believe in alternate universes, but for those who do, you will probably love this read!
I received this book through Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review.

I've always loved a good alternate reality/do-over type story, and this one is excellent. Although I could see early on where this one was going at times (with a few surprises along the way), it really didn't matter as the book was so beautifully written, the characters felt so vibrant and alive, and the descriptive language created worlds that any traveler would love to visit for a bit, that I finished the book in one day! Annie Beyers is an artist, wife, mother, and sister who loses her way in the world after a car accident that leaves her future up in the air. WHO is she? WHO is important to her and WHAT does she want to do with the rest of her life? A wonderful book that encourages the readers to ponder those same questions in their own lives. Who would we be and where would we be if we choose a different decision or path in life? Annie discovers that she is where she is meant to be and that gives her life meaning no matter the outcome of her choices.

"Embrace the unknown and-" "See what unfolds when we get there."
Wow!
This is definitely a story that I had no idea where it was going or how it would end.
But... the idea is incredible and I really enjoyed and needed to stop reading it many times to ponder it.

Just imagine that you wake up after an accident and find that nothing is the same. Your daughter that you love, has never existed. The home you adore, is no longer yours. This is what occurs with the main character, Annie.
She has an incredible journey to figure out her life both past and present.
It truly is an amazing novel of hope, determination and fantasy.
Great story
