It's a riveting and entertaining story, fast paced and full of twist. A gritty and complex crime thriller that kept me turning pages and surprised me till the end.
I love Abby, a clever and complex character, and liked the storytelling but something felt off and I didn't fell in love with the story.
I think it's one of those "me-not-the-book" cases, maybe I need to read some other type of stories to avoid comparisons and a sort of "need a happy detective character" syndrome.
My personal problem apart, it's a good story that I recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Abby has come back to sleepy Martha's Vineyard after a high-profile career at the NYPD, except that Martha's Vineyard isn't all that sleepy anymore.

An entire family is murdered, other than a teenage girl who is in shock. Why did this happen and are there things in the father's past which could provide some answers?

There are plenty of twists and turns in this book and it is interesting to try and figure out the who/why/what of the case.

4 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

When Detective Abby Pearce is called to Martha's Vineyard, what she finds is staggering. A man, his wife and 3 children have been murdered in a knife attack. There is only one survivor ... the couple's 15-year-old daughter.

The girl is rushed to the hospital, only to find that she hasn't been injured, although she appears to be in a state of shock. The girl's grandparents are called ... and there awaits another bewildering puzzle ... the grandparents don't know who this girl is. She is certainly not their grand-daughter.

So who is she? And where is the real grand-daughter?

Well written, the plot is riveting, the story line intriguing. Characters are fully developed. There are many twists and turns guaranteed to keep the pages rapidly turning. The conclusion was unexpected. Although 2nd in the series, this is easily read as a stand-alone. I do recommend, however, reading the books in order as it is a compelling series.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction/police procedural. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

A great edge of your seat, who can you trust kind of thriller. It's definitely a page turner, keeps you wanting more. It's #2 in the series, but I hadn't read #1, and it wasn't an issue - obviously if you've read it, you connect to different characters, but if you haven't, you are not disadvantaged in any way. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fast paced detective mystery series I highly recommend!
I loved the first book in the Detective Abby Pearce series “Her Ocean Grave” and was not disappointed with “Silent Island.” I am looking forward to the next book in the series!
Definitely a intriguing, twisty mystery thriller that makes you wonder what the heck is going on…….with a surprising ending that will surprise you.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, Dana Perry, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book was a great read. When a family has been found bruttally murdered in an affluent part called Martha's Vineyard Detective Abby Pierce is determined to find the killer or killers. Only one member of the family was spared or so they thought. Who was the girl, she wasn't talking and the grandparents said that it wasn't their grand daughter.
When they eventually did find out who she was there worst nightmare was about to begin.
I found this a fast paced book and just couldn't put it down.

It was just this summer that I reviewed Her Ocean Grave so I was excited to get another Abby Pearce book so soon. As with the first in the series, what I liked the most was Abby herself. Besides the alcoholism, which seems to be prevalent in most cop books, the author has done a good job creating a character that is not stereotypical. She is likeable and kind but also doesn’t shrink away from a difficult investigation.

This was certainly a difficult investigation! I had no idea how this one was going to play out. However, when the mystery was unravelled, I could appreciate how well-thought out and logical it was. The story was also fast paced so not much time has to pass at all before a piece of juicy information is released.

Silent Island is also one of few police books where I didn’t mind the delve into the main character’s personal life. And you have just to see how the author twists Abby’s past and present together to make something really exciting!

Abby Pearce is not quite likable, nor is she really dislikable, but she is a bit enthralled with her celebrity like super cop crime-buster status which dates to when she was a detective with the NYPD. She carries a lot of baggage not least that she is a drink away from being a full fledged alcoholic which the reader is reminded on every other page. A reminder of this character flaw once or twice might have been necessary but the excessive repetition was annoying.

Returning to her hometown on Martha’s Vineyard and joining the local police force after a near career blow-up in NY she snags a multiple homicide. It turns into a sh**storm and quickly becomes evident that nothing is getting solved quickly. Pearce is free and loose of her criticism of her Chief and I kept wondering what he thought of her. Her investigative skills, while methodical in searching out the killer, seems to leave her wanting and left-footed in more personal situations. Much like the protagonist I have read better and worse police procedurals.

This was a quick read with many twists and turns. Thank you NetGalley and Bookoutre for a copy.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. This is the second book in the series but both could be read as standalones.

I like the way this book is written in the past tense. A lot of books are written in the present tense but having the book written in the past tense gives a different feel. Like this is a journal entry or a newspaper article. It was a nice change.

Abby Pearce is a great detective. She is a flawed but likeable character. Abby's alcoholism has caused a lot of problems for her but the reason for the alcoholism really humanises Abby. She has had a traumatic life and I just want something to go right for her.

The case, at first, seemed a very strange one. I could not understand why someone would want to so brutally kill those young children. I had two suspects in mind for quite a few chapters before Dana revealed the killer.

The pace in this book was a little slower than some crime books. Dana slowly builds the tension until without realising it you are frantically turning page after page! I liked the short chapters as it's easy to convince yourself you can do one more every single time!

I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to see what Dana brings next!

A gripping book from the get go. Fast paced it gives the readers a totally compulsive read. One that you wont want to put down once you have started it. Just when you have settled into a reading rhythm boom, there’s a plot twist. So you set off again having assimilated that part and thought oh boy didn’t see that coming. Continuing with the tension and the pace the book carries on drawing you further into Abby’s life and her growing knowledge that the case is becoming more and more personal to her. Page after page you shadow the investigation as the truth slowly emerges and presents itself with yet another even more juicy plot twist. It was for me a binge read book, one i was determined to finish once started as i found it to be such an addictive read.

Chilling and claustrophobic, Dana Perry’s Silent Island is an addictive and compulsively readable thriller full of shocking revelations that will leave readers reeling.

A shocking murder has taken place at the Beach House, a holiday home in the poshest part of Martha’s Vineyard. An entire family has been brutally killed in one fell swoop with the only survivor being fifteen year old Karin. When Detective Abby Pearce is called to the scene, she is horrified at what she finds at the Beach House and vows to do whatever it takes to catch the evil mastermind behind this horrific murder. Karin is so traumatized that she spends her days staring off into the distance without saying a word. Abby doesn’t think that this investigation could possibly yield more shocks – until Karin’s grandparents come to take her home and drop a bombshell that floors Abby: the girl in the hospital bed is not their granddaughter! Who is this teenage girl impersonating the sole survivor of the Lavelle family? And where is the real Karin?

As the pressure piles up on Abby, the media scrutinizes her every move, the residents at Martha’s vineyard are all panicking that there is a killer in their midst and her superiors are on her back wanting her to solve this case without delay. As Abby begins to dig deep into the family’s past, she uncovers a shocking link between late patriarch Thomas Lavelle and her old NYPD job leading her to think that the killer’s next victim will be Abby herself!

Will Abby find the killer before it’s too late? Or is she walking into a trap that could lead to her death?

Dana Perry blends action, tension and suspense and ramps them all up to a hundred in his latest Abby Pearce thriller, Silent Island. Full of shocking and terrifying twists and turns readers will simply not see coming, Silent Island is a complex, unpredictable and wholly absorbing crime thriller.

A nail-biting chiller where the pages simply turn themselves, Dana Perry’s second Abby Pearce thriller, Silent Island is a must-read for fans of the genre.

Book 2 in the Detective Abbey Pierce series.

When Detective Pierce is called to a mass murder of a family she cannot believe the violence set before her. A family of holiday goers have been stabbed to death with their oldest daughter being the only witness but when her grandparents come to her hospital bed they are stunned to realise its not their granddaughter. Where is Karin and why was this family murdered?

I enjoyed the first book in this series and I loved this one. I must say Detective Abbey Pierce is another crime series I'm officially hooked on.
Abbey is an alcoholic still harbouring guilt around the death of her partner. She also has a trouble relationship with her superior who is jealous of her experiences and abilities. Plus she had her relationship with journalist Lincoln to contend whilst trying to juggle her work load. So it's no surprise when she starts to notice links between the crime scene and her past that she's on edge. No one leaves alive was written on the wall of the crime scene and something is nagging at her its saying from her past.

Abbey is a great protagonist and I love that the chapters are written in first person. It's like we are reading her journal and I love a good book in first person. I enjoyed the continuation of her struggle with alcoholism and how that affects her job and in general her daily life. She is a mess but that's what makes the story even better.

I love the idea of this island off the mainland, the beautiful backdrop compared to the horrific crimes with it being a holiday destination the author had made it clear about the increase of crime during tourist seasons. Where it differs from other crime thrillers it doesn't make mass murders out to be something that happens every week, it's far more believable.

The crime itself sounds horrific being stabbed continually to death. With the writing on the wall and the mothers hands being displayed in prayer there's so much to the crime its hard to get a proper read on the killer. Although I guessed earlier on the killer randomly so when the whys are explained I couldn't help but wonder how I guessed them.

All in all this was a great read. I recommend starting with book one her ocean grave and then this one but it's not a must. I found the writing to flow really nicely and was enthralled from start to finish . Easy 5 stars.

Thanks to netgalley, Dana Perry and the publishers for the advanced digital copy of Silent Island in exchange for my fair and honest opinions

Detective Abby Pearce features in this second instalment in a new series from Dana Perry. Abby has returned to Martha’s Vineyard for a more peaceful life than she had as a homicide detective in the NYPD. However, some have resented her experience that clinched her the only detective position in her hometown and she also struggles with her complicated past on the island.

Silent Island is an absorbing continuation of the series packed with twists as in a high profile case, an entire family is slaughtered at a holiday resort on the island. The Lavelle family are the father, Thomas who is a doctor, mother Nancy and three of their four children who have been stabbed to death. A teenage girl, assumed to be the eldest child Karin, is found alive. Nancy’s parents arrive and the police learn that the girl is not Karin Lavelle, their granddaughter, so where is the real Karin?

Abby has her demons that she battles, but she’s a determined detective who doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Written from Abby's perspective, she seems to be getting back on track and winning the fight against the trauma she's endured in the past, living one day at a time. As more people are killed nothing is straightforward nor as it seems. A compelling, deeply enjoyable read. I'm curious to see what's in store for Detective Abby Pearce in book three.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Silent Island' by Dana Perry.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Dana Perry, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 5th October 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author it is also the second book in the 'Detective Abby Pearce' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Her Ocean Grave' (the first book in the series which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'This fast-paced thriller is perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Kendra Elliot and Mary Burton, but be warned—you won’t want to put it down!.' I am a huge fan of the three authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Dana and if this is half as good as 'Her Ocean Grave' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists a prologue, 66 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Massachusetts, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Detective Abby Pearce. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

'Silent Island' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Dana discusses/includes murder of a child.

Wow!!!!! What did I just read!!! Mind blown!!!! Absolutely shattered after being up all night reading but boy was it worth it! Absolutely unputdownable!! Clear your schedules before picking this book up as you will not be able to put it down!!! An extremely well written novel with vivid descriptions that suck you into the storyline. The cover, title and synopsis suited the storylime perfectly!!

There are very few male authors I know if that can pull off a female lead in a novel but boy oh boy did Dana do it perfectly!!! I was actually shocked to find that this book was written by a male as unfortunately when female leads are written by men they tend to make them very sexualised, this was not the case at all!!! In fact I can't even remember the last time I read such a page turner by a male author, not for a very long time!!! The storyline was fast paced, addictive, breathe taking, nail biting, suspense filled and had me completely absorbed!!! It was filled with crime, mystery, lies, murder, friendships and deceit. Absolutely everything you need to make a fantastic crime thriller!!!! Everything tied in perfectly at the end, I absolutely hate loose ends!!! What an absolutely fantastic and explosive second book in an addictive series. Dana has most definitely done his research into past crimes along with police procedures and it absolutely shines!! A pet hate of mine is reading crime novels and having so many small things being obviously wrong due to authors not doing any research. This would make a heart racing movie and I for one would absolutely love to see it!! This book was filled with twists, turns, shocks and surprises and there's no way I would have guessed about half the bombshells that were dropped. Yet another well done Dana you not only managed to shock me once but several times which is not an easy feat after reading so many crime novels!!!

Although this is the second book in the series any reader will have absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

I clicked and connected with Abby immediately and loved meeting her again!!! I loved her kick a**e personality and she is definitely not someone to be messed with!!! She has a dark past but rather than lay down and take it she has stood up and become a fantastic Detective. I also enjoyed meeting many of the other characters again including Lincoln, Teena and many more. Each character was well defined with their own backgrounds and personalities. They were all realistic and the team dynamics were intriguing. I'm definitely looking forward to meeting many of them again.

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Dana on an explosive addition in this epic series!!! This is why your on my top 3.male author list!!! I cannot wait for your next promising success 🥂 !!!

Overall an addictive page turning unputdownable crime thriller that will keep you up all night!!

Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Suspense, Mystery, Noir Fiction, Police Procedural and Crime Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Regan, Kendra Elliot, Mary Burton and anyone looking for a heart racing read!!!

This is book 2 in the series.

This is fast paced, full of tension and suspense.

This is a detective mystery series which is one if my favourite genres

It's full of Twists and turns and will keep you reading until the very end

First, I want to thank Dana Perry, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

YES!!! Detective Abby Pearce is back and better than ever in Dana Perry’s Silent Island. Dana Perry wrote such an incredibly fast paced, fascinating, gripping, thrilling, and totally shocking storyline that will leave you speechless at times! Seriously, once you pick up this book you won’t want to put it down till you are finished with it! Dana is a great storyteller. This is why I highly suggest you add it to your TBR pile as this is a must read book!

Being that Silent Island is a sequel to Her Ocean Grave I highly suggest reading them in order. This way you can get the back story on Detective Abby Pearce and the other characters. It can be read as a stand alone however as Dana does refresh us a little bit on the characters. For those who have read the first book in the series we get caught up with what the characters have been up to.

WOW!! Just WOW!! Dana wastes no time whatsoever by leaving me speechless with my mouth wide open as I read the prologue! I couldn’t believe what I was reading!

Words can not express how I felt reading about the horrific tragedy that happened in this book! The details he wrote just tugged so hard on my heart strings so much!!

This to me was better than any crime thriller I have read! Why? Because you had the mystery of who killed the family and why? Why was the eldest daughter spared?!

The Island had so many twists and turns if you blinked you would have missed something! Yes, it was that fast paced!

After learning along with Abby who Lincoln really is I can honestly say I am no longer a fan of his either.

Dana incorporates and brings awareness to some very important issues in Abby’s storyline.

I loved how the storyline was placed in beautiful and picturesque Martha’s Vineyard.

The mention of Upstate New York put a smile on my face as I reside in NY State!

Abby Pearce is the lead investigator on the murder of a family of five in a vacation retreat on Martha’s Vineyard in Cedar Cliffs. She is a former crime investigator from New York City.

Her former partner, Tommy Ferraro, was killed during a crime investigation in New York. Abby still feels responsible for his death. There is always the guilty idea she could have done more to save her partner.

Her partner in Cedar Cliffs is a no-nonsense fellow detective named Teena. One member of the family massacred on the island is still alive and missing, the fifteen-year-old daughter. She is the subject of an island wide manhunt. Could she have done this brutal crime?

Dana Perry winds through many scenarios of the crime. Every time there is a news-briefing the police chief gets more and more agitated with his lead investigator, and each time the investigation follows a particular path, the person being investigated seems to wind up dead!

The solution at the end was a clever twist to the story. I appreciated the twists that Dana put me through to get to the conclusion. I also wanted the investigation to move faster as at times it seemed to drag (and I had to agree with the police chief). Still, this is an entertaining and absorbing tale. 4 stars – CE Williams

This book gripped me right away. Even though I figured out the whodunnit and major twist it took nothing away from the story. I couldn’t put it down waiting for the main characters to figure it out too. And when they do? Whew yes! This is the second in the series and I hope there’s many more to come.

Silent Island by Dana Perry is another gripping novel featuring Detective Abby Pearce.

Once again, I easily became immersed in life on Martha's Vineyard and the crimes solved by the Cedar Cliff PD.

The serious crimes being investigated in Silent Island are complex and intriguing and even with 80% of this captivating book read, there are still more questions than answers.

You will be swept up in Abby Pearce's investigative methods and the relationships with her fellow officers.

You will experience frustration and hopelessness as this mystery becomes more and more complex but its worth every single minute of your time.

This series is shaping up to be a 'must read' for me and I can't wait for Detective Abby Pearce and her life in Martha's Vineyard to be thrown into, I suspect, further turmoil with the next installment.

This second book in the Detective Abby Pearce series does not disappoint. A horrific crime occurs when five people are murdered inside their vacation home in Cedar Cliffs. Abby is called to the scene and realizes that one of the daughters, Karin, is missing. Was she not home at the time or is she the killer? When the daughter is located, Abby is shocked to learn that the young girl is not Karin…so who is she and where is Karen? Abby was a homicide detective in New York and had moved to Cedar Cliffs to escape the violence and the loss of her former partner. Now it seems as if violence has followed her to Massachusetts. When Abby finds a connection between the murders and her past in New York, can she solve the murders before the killer takes their final revenge? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
