This book has all the vibes of becoming a great film.
A nail biting thriller from start to finish. Detective Abby Pearce has returned to her home town of Martha’s Vineyard but the idyllic setting is soon destroyed by series of brutal murders. Will Abby be able to piece this one together ?
Immediately I felt like I was reading a James Patterson book. The short snappy chapters with the crisp chill of terror was fantastic.
Thank you netgalley.

I found this book a little slow to start but once it got going it really moved. The story sped through a series of thrill leading to a shocking climax.
I don't normally enjoy books written in the first person but somehow it seems to work here. I'd recommend the book to anyone who wants a great thriller that manages to keep the readers attention without pages of gratuitous violence or sex. That isn't to say that there aren't brutal murders and a good sprinkling of romance, just that the author obviously doesn't feel the need to go into gory details. I look forward to the next in the series.

After training and working as a policewoman in New York City, Detective Abby Pearce has returned to her home on the island of Martha's Vineyard. The island is both a tourist destination and a place where the rich own second homes. Haunted by the death of a colleague back in New York City and health issues that followed, she has traded the city for a place which should mean a quieter life, until a surgeon and his family are found dead in their holiday apartment.
Well written, Silent Island was a little slow to start, probably because at first the murder scene offers no clues as to why this has taken place or who might be the perpetrator. However, the story soon begins to move up a gear when the murder of a potential suspect follows. There were plentiful red herrings and false turns in this hard to put down story and the ending was a real surprise.

Many thanks to Bookouture, Dana Perry and NetGalley for an ARC of Silent Island in exchange for an honest review.

I've read both books in this series and won't be continuing. I love the authors Jessie Tucker books. But I just can't get into this one. I can't seem to care about Abby. As with the first book it felt like her time as a New York detective is mentioned entirely too much. Then there is the alcoholism. I realize these are important to her character but she isn't developing past these aspects and it makes for a very flat character. The mystery started of intriguing but fell short. This is just an okay read for me.

This is a good read.
The brutal murder of a family is a great start to the story. Detective Abby Pearce is shocked to discover that 15 year old Karin is unharmed, but she has no memory of what happened to her family.
She’s taken to hospital as she’s unresponsive to questions and Abby thinks she’s in shock at losing her family. When her grandparents arrive they demand answers as the girl is not their granddaughter.
Abby is keen to find Karin and solve the murders, but as the investigations get underway, there are links to her own past, and her life is in danger.
This is a good read but there was something missing for me to make it a gripping crime thriller.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

A twisty mystery that will keep you guessing. Abby is a recovering alcoholic and former NYPD detective who has moved back to her hometown in Martha's Vineyard. You'd think such a pretty vacation spot wouldn't have much more than petty crimes but you'd be very wrong.

I enjoyed this book and hope there are more to come. My only real complaint is there were too many references to Abby being recovering alcoholic. I realize it's a big part of who she is but I don't need to be constantly reminded.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Silent Island, the second novel set on Martha’s Vineyard to feature Detective Abby Pierce.

The brutal murder of a husband, wife and three of their children brings fear and violence to the island. Miraculously 15 year old Karin Lavelle is unharmed but has no memory of what happened to her family, but when her grandparents arrive they don’t recognise her as Karin. Now Abby must find Karin and solve the murders, a task made more difficult when she discovers links to her own past.

I thoroughly enjoyed Silent Island, which is an exciting read, full of twists and turns. The plot is imaginative rather than realistic, but it’s so full of events, reveals and developments that there’s no time to notice or care. I found it to be absorbing. I like the way the perpetrator and motive are carefully hidden, leaving the reader to guess and speculate. I must admit that I reached the answer well before Abby, but, apart from the minor annoyance of her not being able to see it, it didn’t mar my enjoyment in the slightest because there was still plenty of action to keep me interested.

It is told entirely from Abby’s point of view in the first person so the reader gets a close up of the highs and lows of the investigation and her personal life and relationships. She is a bit of a strange one and I’m not sure if, even after two novels, I like her. She’s certainly had an eventful life and I get that she’s a recovering alcoholic, but the constant emphasis on it gets a bit boring after a while. Her love life isn’t much better and takes a strange turn in this novel. Apart from that she’s actually quite a boring individual as work is her life. Obviously she’s a smart detective with years of experience with NYPD but there’s little to leaven the case.

Silent Island is a good read that I can recommend.

Silent Island is the second book in the Abby Pearce series. I have read them both and am really enjoying the series so far. I really enjoy the setting of these and I enjoyed finding out more about Abby in this story. This one hit the ground running and never let up with plenty of twists and turns that kept me glued to the story right up to the last page. I am really looking forward to more books in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the setting, and the main character was great, and so were some of the others. The plot was good, and kept me interested, and trying to work it out. I did manage to spot the killer, no spoilers from me, but it still kept me page turning because I wasn't entirely certain until the end of the book that I had guessed correctly. Cracking story well worth a read.

Silent Island is my first introduction to detective Abby Pearce, and it was an interesting introduction as Abby Pearce is a high-profile detective back in Martha's Vineyard struggling to stay sober after witnessing her partner be gunned down whilst working for the NYPD and her marriage fall apart.

And with another big case to solve this one with strange ties to Abby and a mob boss from New York, Abby is under more pressure than ever before especially when a case of mistaken identity leads to more questions and distress for the relatives of the slain family.

But with plenty of mystery, big twists and moments that had me crying out in surprise this was an engaging read and I would certainly look out for more books in this series in the future.

Abby returned to live in Martha’s Vineyard for a more quiet life. However, mayhem and murder have turned the island into a mess and Abby is in the middle of it. She tries valiantly to put the pieces of the mystery together, only to keep turning up jagged edges. It’s an exciting read, with more references to excising her past. I ,I’ve the settings and her colleagues. There is one disappointment for Abby and I was disappointed for her. But maybe there will be a fresh prospect later. Who will die next on this luxurious island?

What happened to the quiet and peaceful Martha's Vineyard community? Karin is the sole survivor of a mass murder that wiped away her entire family. Detective Abby Pearce is beside herself when she arrives at the crime scene and is more than shocked to find fifteen-year-old Karin cowering in a bedroom. Who killed her family and why did they leave Karin alive? Fortunately for Karin, her grandparents fly in with plans of taking her home with them so that she can go down the long road of recovery. Instead, when they arrive, they turn to Abby with confusion in their eyes. Who is this teenager and where is their granddaughter?

Where is the teen daughter of the slaughtered family and why was this girl - who won't or can't say a thing - found in the home? Abby dives head first into this case. As if she hasn't already experienced more than one shock, Abby uncovers a link to her career at the NYPD where she was a homicide detective before returning home to Martha's Vineyard. Abby left that job after experiencing a tragedy of her own. In addition to that, she is struggling to remain alcohol free and is taking on that battle one day at a time. To imagine that her past could possibly be connected to her current case all but floors her.

How close to danger will Abby get, nevermind any other potential victims? Who can Abby trust and where does her future lie? Although this book could definitely work as a standalone novel, I am glad that I read the first book in the series, Her Ocean Grave, as that gave me great insight to Abby as a person. This book, Silent Island, is a powerful second installment filled with surprising twists and turns and excellent drama and suspense. I am loving this series and very much look forward to reading the next book.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Book 2 in the Detective Abby Pearce series and I am struggling to like the main character. The book has plenty twists but is slow moving and my interest waned at times with the lack of character development and the slow pace. It's an ok summer read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

When I reviewed the author’s previous book and book 1 in the Abby Pearce series (Her Ocean Grave), I remember saying I didn’t think it would be long until she wrote a 5 star book. Well folks - this was it for me!

Abby Pearce, a former homicide detective with the NYPD had moved back to her hometown on Martha’s Vineyard when the previous book started and Abby became embroiled in a high profile case. This time the case is even more high profile as an entire family is slaughtered at a holiday resort on the island. The Lavelle family - the father is a cardiac surgeon, mother Nancy is a top notch lawyer and 3 of their 4 children have been stabbed to death. A teenaged girl, assumed to be the eldest child Karin, is found in a catatonic state. But when Nancy’s parents (the only other relatives) arrive police are shocked to learn that the girl is not Karin Lavelle, their granddaughter, and nobody knows who she is. So where is the real Karin? And is she is danger?

This sets the tone for what becomes a most convoluted police investigation. I had no hope of picking this one! The strange girl is finally identified but her identity doesn’t shed any light on things at all. And then she disappears! More people are killed and nothing is straightforward, nothing is as it seems. The mob is somehow involved and crooked cops from other jurisdictions. Red herrings are everywhere and suspects disappear in a puff of smoke. There’s only one thing Detective Abby Pierce is sure about and that is that somehow this is all connected and linked to her. But how and why is still very much a mystery.

Abby is such a likeable and engaging character. She is no shrinking violet and does her job in a professional and competent manner. The setting on Martha’s Vineyard is captivating in itself. It sounds like a charming holiday destination. Come to Martha’s Vineyard and be stabbed to death - just kidding, it does sound idyllic. The pacing of this story was spot on and I struggled to put the book down and go to bed last night. All in all a great and compelling thriller for all thriller fans out there. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Things have quieted down for Detective Abby Pearce on Martha’s Vineyard, but when she is called to the Beach House it is back to the races. 5 bodies are found brutally stabbed, mom, dad and 3 children, only one survivor 15-year-old Karin, but she is not talking. Is she a survivor or did she commit the murders?
Many twists and turns, keeps you up at night turning pages.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

I enjoyed this book although it didn’t quite hit the mark with me. I struggled to really like the main character, she came across to me as quite arrogant. She is the lead detective on a case where a family has been murdered with their eldest daughter the sole survivor. The case takes a personal turn where Detective Pearce is targeted directly by the killer. I enjoyed the twists in the story although at times I felt the book was a little overly long and my interest dropped at times. I correctly guessed who the killer was before the reveal, and I would read the next book in series to see if Detective Pearce grows on me. This one just didn’t wow or thrill me and fell a little short to be honest.

I loved this and couldn’t put it down! The chilling young girl in the place of a girl whose entire family have been murdered - what an opening scene! Great storytelling, clever weaving of the plot and a page turning masterpiece.

I have not read the first book in this series yet. That's the problem with seeing so many good books I just have to read, but this being said it did not stop me from enjoying this one thoroughly.

So for me it was the first time I was being introduced to Detective Pearce and the rest of the police force of this part of the island. The author already gives us some insight in the past of our main character, but I have a feeling there is a lot more to find out still.

She and her boss are not the best of friends, but they have to work together and he knows he needs her to solve this crime staring a cruel, coldblooded killer. He is more used to work with petty crimes, she can fall back on her previous experience with the NYPD. Without her the killer would probably get off scot free, but Abby is not easily scared.

When it seems like it's becoming very personal indeed, she is more than ever determined to put a stop to the killers killing spree.

In my opinion a great story, maybe sometimes a bit slow paced, but with more than enough things going on that kept me entertained and intrigued. Of course the suspect I had in mind had nothing to do with it LOL, but they had some explaining to do as well. 😊

I would love to read more about this small but very effective police team. 5 stars

Thank you

What an excellent read. This novel shoots from the hip in the prologue and never gives up. I loved the different direction you kept being led into and the often shocking sudden turn of events. Interesting characters throughout and despite there being yet another detective with addiction issues, this is a real page turner.

Caveat: This is on my "authors to read" list so I know when I peel back that cover, I'm going to be experiencing an exceptional read.......

With that being said, let me catch my breath. I feel like I just ran a marathon reading this story.

This is the 2nd book in the Detective Abby Pearce series but can easily read as a stand alone. You can see my review for the 1st book Her Ocean Grave

A dream vacation on the iconic island of Martha's Vineyard. But the entire Lavelle family has been murdered in their hotel room not long after arriving. From there, the action doesn't diminish with each page that is turned.

Mr. Perry has a gift of writing stories within stories, mysteries within mysteries, which this book had, which was gripping and tense. I was so engrossed that I felt that I was also on the island and trailing Det. Abby Pearce on her hunt for the killer or killers.

A nail biter of a read!!! Chilling and riveting!!!!

A totally entertaining read from start to finish!!! Now I'm ready for the sequel!!!!
