This was a very sweet and simple story that left me feeling warm and happy. As a curvy woman, I am really appreciative of the positive representation that is being written in YA books these days and would be so grateful to see more of this! I loved our female MC, Ariel or Cupcake as she is affectionately known and the confidence and positive vibe that she brought to every situation she encountered. O'Gorman discusses the effects of body shaming on perceptions of self and how it often stems from our home environment or from those closest to us. The consequences can be on your physical, emotional and social wellbeing and the negative thoughts can unintentionally pass on to those around you. We see an example of this between Ariel and Lana's relationship with their respective mother's and how this has formed their approach to eating and confidence in their bodies.

Set on the backdrop of a Homecoming event there is a broody and mysterious male MC who brings a lot more to the story than what meets the eye. At times, this book may feel predictable but it never loses on its charm and cuteness factor. I found this to be the perfect, feel good YA read that is a beautiful reminder that you are worthy of love and more importantly, you must learn to love yourself first.

First off this cover is so gorgeous! Rhys is the most adorable human ever. He is so sweet to Ariel and he knows about our queen SJM! I mean ✨swoon✨. I love the inclusion in this book as well. Our main character Ariel was plus size and I related so much to her anxieties and self doubts especially with the trust fall exercise. The friendship between Ariel and Toni was great and the mother daughter one as well. I think the end conflict was a little abrupt but over all this was a really cute read! I think this would be perfect for middle/early high schoolers.

First, I wanted to say I honestly was really excited for this book and starting off I thought it was good but as I continued it just got painful to read. Throughout the story it kept getting worse, the references made were just really corny and the main character, although I loved her she felt like “i’m not like other girls” type person (which i’m pretty sure she actually says this in the book). Also, it didn’t seem realistic due to the way the characters talked to one another, it was really cringey and in real life no teenager talks like that. The relationship though I thought was sweet and I prob would have liked this story more if I was younger. Overall I’d give this a 2/5 and I hope to others that read this book enjoy it more than I did. Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read this book for an honest review.
