A phenomenally moving and tender book with characters that felt authentic and an absolutely enviable setting on the island.
I felt that Mack's storyline especially was addictive reading and really detailed the gritty reality of family, love and identity. I absolutely want to be a part of the island knitting group, such a beautiful bunch of supportive women that took my breath away.
This book filled me up with warmth and hope

This is a great book to read, charming, sentimental, but also Cleo the main character is so strong. The story is all about the impact of the BIG 30 and finding your true self. The main characters - Cleo and mack are well developed and fo some inexplicable reason you cannot help developing a soft spot for both of them. The other characters on the island are also fun and very welcoming.
I would truly recommend this book as a feel-good story with some lovely descriptors of a local island community..

I read and loved Josie Silver's previous books, and was fascinated by the idea that One Night on the Island might be linked to One Day in December! Reading this on a cold September day, I was instantly transported away from my every day life, and couldn't have been in better company than with Cleo and Mack.
One Night on the Island is an easy, fast read, perfect for anyone who wants a bit of escapism. I feel the "marrying yourself" plotline was a bit far-fetched (even if it was for a magazine article) and that made it out that being 30 and not married was about the worst thing you could do, but if you can put that to one side and embrace the story, there is so much more that this book has to give.
Loveable characters, a great surrounding cast, an interesting location, and some romance adds up to a great mix, and one I would absolutely give to my friends who also enjoyed Josie's last works.

What an amazing book, I loved everything about it and was totally captivated by the characters and the island. Cleo goes to the island to marry herself on her 30th birthday and write about it for her magazine blog. She is booked into Otter Lodge, but Mack, an American photographer, has been loaned the cabin by the owner. With only a boat once a week the two have to work out how to share the small space.
I liked both main characters but the highlight for me was the residents of the small island and how welcoming they were. If I could give this book more than five stars I would

Fabulous follow up to One day in December and The two lives of Lydia Bird. Cleo is a magazine writer who is sent on an assignment to a remote island in the Irish Sea to commune with nature and "marry herself" following the infamous Emma Watson declaration. Upon arriving on the aptly named island of Salvation Cleo discovers that the one rentable property on the island appears to have been double booed and far from being alone she is now sharing her space with American photographer Mack!
Funny, poignant and character driven this is a great read that jumps off the page. there is a cast of characters who all have their own part to play in the story of the island and in the lives that Cleo and Mack live in the "outside world".
Overall thoroughly enjoyable read, great for a fall or Winter evening this book feels like a warm blanket!!

One Night on the Island, a romantic drama and so, so much more. A delight of a book that paints a wonderful picture of life on a remote Irish island. No cliches, no mush just real love, the romantic kind and of humankind. No schmaltzy ending either, just the perfect ending! I just never wanted it to end at all, and I know I will be thinking of Cleo and Mack and the islanders for weeks to come. No schmaltzy ending either, just the perfect ending!

Loved loved loved this book, it was such an unusual feel good story. It was an easy read that just kept you coming back for more to see how it was going to finish. Loved Salvation island and the relationships built around it. It was such a perfect ending to a perfect book. Highly recommend this one.

I actually requested this book by mistake but oh my gosh I’m so glad I did. I haven’t enjoyed a book so much in ages. I loved both main characters (unusual) but more than that I loved the residents and how welcoming they are. I yearn for a community of people like this and would happily up and move to this island!

I really liked how the story progressed naturally and at a good pace. I wasn't left waiting for things to move forward. The romance was sweet, and developed really nicely, i appreciated that it took a little while to get going. There was real depth to the characters, their emotions, and their journeys. I also loveeed the location, and with it, the side characters. They felt really homey. I would recommend this to anyone.

Every now and then you start a book with no expectations and it bowls you over. This was that book for me. I wish I could give the book more than five stars because it was just beautiful. I devoured the book in one day, desperate to know the outcome for the lead characters. The book was heart wrenching, funny, inspiring and full of hope. It explored friendship and love in a familiar yet unusual way and left me desperate for more. in fact it left me wanting to disappear off to that very Island and experience that sort of life for myself. Thank you netgalley for access to this book, it was captivating!!

A lovely, cosy and light hearted read. Great setting on a remote island with its fair share of quirky inhabitants. Slightly predictable and cheesy but that's not s bad thing!

I didn’t like the I’m almost 30 my life is over start. It made me sad and lonely so I didn’t finish it

This was such an enjoyable read, finished in two sittings! It’s lovely how Cleo and Mac come together. Loved the actually description of Salvation Island and it’s community too. Thank you for the advanced copy.

I really enjoyed this book and was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved the two protagonists. I could easily see this book being made into a film! I loved the development of relationships and both characters were totally loveable. I was keen to see how it all ended and I have recommended this to my friends and family for a good holiday read!

I just absolutely love books by the incredibly talented Josie Silver and One day in December has always been a firm favourite of mine so I was excited to read this one...it is safe to say that One day on the island is now another of my firm favourites, such a beautiful love story that really had me invested the whole way through, I was starting to feel worried towards the end thinking the worst but was delighted at the outcome. I can't wait to talk about and recommend this book to anyone that is willing to listen, just fantastic!

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. Having read previous books by this author I was really looking forward to this latest one and I wasn't disappointed, as always it has fascinating characters and a really good story. I will be recommending it to everyone I know.

It's midnight and I've just finished this beautiful book. Do you ever feel like a book is giving you a hug? This book hugs you. It fills you with love and friendship and strength. I think that's the biggest thing I got out of this book. Strength
I desperately hope we are going back to Salvation Island again in another book. I'm not quite ready to leave it yet.
It's a brilliant book. There's so many tiny details that make this book amazing but I fear by revealing them I'll ruin the book.so all I'll say is read this book, you wont regret it!

What could be better the idea of travelling to an isolated island where the boat only comes once a week when the weather is favourable and so the tale begins. We meet Cleo who writes a column about finding true love which she calls " finding your flamingo" and it si she who undertakes her boss's idea of travelling to Salvation Island off the Irish mainland to marry herself and undertake a sequence of tasks to celebrate this and her thirtieth birthday. The only "fly in the ointment" is that Mack, a separated father of two boys has also booked a stay in Otter Lodge and due to a mix up they both arrive on the same boat as well as the same cottage. How they resolve the dilema of both wanting to stay there without the other's company and the wonderful cast of local villagers they encounter sweeps the story along. Mack has left his family in Boston to resolve his year long separation from his wife and is missing his sons and still cannot reconcile why this has happened and his reason for his trip is also to see his family's roots in the island. In both characters Jodie Silver is writing about a journey of self discovery and it is a great read. Thanks for my opportunity to review a writer I had never encountered.

I'll be honest, I still have Josie's debut novel on my never ending tbr pile, but all I've heard about that was raving reviews. However I'm glad I was able to read this advance copy without any prior expectations of my own because I get it now.
It's the magical way that Josie's words describes everything, making you feel that you are right there with the characters. I felt anguish, I felt myself smiling and laughing - I felt it all.
This story is set around a woman, about to marry herself on her 30th birthday, from London and a man, in the midst of a separation in his marriage, with his whole life back in Boston. On paper it doesn't work, right?
But after a bumpy start and some crossed wires, Cleo and Mack have a brief but intense holiday romance, before the world outside of their little Island bubble inevitably intervenes. "And for a little while, he made me feel as if I'd swallowed stars."
I was left rooting for all the different outcome possibilities for the characters, for them to both find their happiness in whatever way was right for them.
What really drew me to the female and male leads were the way that they considered each other's feelings and noticed all the little things about each other.
I felt really connected to Cleo's struggle with the pressures from society about having to settle down into marriage and having children and although the idea of Cleo marrying herself had me confused at first, it was a joy to read her journey as the reasons behind it became clearer and the ceremony itself seemed very self empowering.
But despite all my love for the characters' micro-love, what really had me unable to put the book down, was the residents of the Island. Their warmth and the whole community feel was so lovely and comforting. Their generosity and humour and the way that they welcomed the newcomers into their lives was such a pleasure to read, and I definitely feel that I'll be checking in on old friends when I re-read this all over again.

Thank you. Ellie Hudson from Penguin Random House Uk for giving me the opportunity to read this beautiful book.
Cleo, a single woman approaching 30, is asked by her editor to marry herself in a remote location and write about it!
The location in question is Salvation Island staying in Otter Lodge the only problem is an American, named Mack, believes that it’s his accommodation and with no where else for either of them to go what do they do?
The glorious setting with not much around other than a hill the sound of the sea, beautiful sunrises, sunsets and deserted beaches, what more could you ask for!
I fell in love with all the characters in the story, from the shop owners, pub landlord and the main two Cleo & Mack, I walked their journey with them, the highs the lows and the excitement.
Another suberb book, I have read all of Josie Silver’s books and each one sucks you in & chews you up to get lost in their world.
