Jane, a widow for two years, has been enjoying her freedom. She falls in love with Gareth but is afraid to commit to marriage again. When she finally agrees to marry him, someone tries to kill him. Together they must survive the attacks and bring that person to justice. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Kensington Books for my honest review.

There's nothing wrong with this book. I just didn't really care about the characters or the plot, it was a bit basic. I didn't love the writing either.

This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given and in my own words, for this ARC. This book had all the necessary things to make it awesome. Beautiful Scottish scenery. Lovely castle, Many Happy couples finding love a second time. Too many "accidents" To the heroine and hero, greed and lust.....unfortunately for me, the story just didn't pull me in. I felt it lacked something.

The Battle of Waterloo made them widows, but each has found new happiness. And Jane, Lady John Tarkington, intends to keep her freedom, even if love—and one particular gentleman—are determined to claim her heart…
It is a truth rarely acknowledged—at least in public—that a wealthy widow is free to pursue a great many adventures. For two years, Jane has privately enjoyed her independence. Why should she remarry, even when the gentleman proposing is as wonderful as Gareth, Lord Kinellan? She entreats him never to ask her again. But as her Widows’ Club friends—now all joyfully remarried—gather at Castle Kinellan, Jane begins to wonder if stubbornness has led her to make a terrible mistake…
Kinellan needs a wife to give him an heir, and he wants that wife to be Jane. They are perfect together in every way, yet she continually refuses him. Just as he is on the point of convincing her, a series of accidents befall Gareth and point to an enemy in their midst. He has promised Jane a passionate future filled with devotion, but can he keep them both alive long enough to secure it?
Trepidation and attempted murder are the two things that are rampant in this tale.
Kinellan and Jane are constantly conflicted as to their marriage and their happily ever after.
Jenna Jaxon is a terrific author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Not a bad story but lots of sex. Jane ends up helping Gareth survive an assassin. Lots of the previous couples which might seem a bit confusing.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book had everything that I wanted in a historical romance, however, I felt like it didn't deliver enough for me to love it. The writing in this book is a little bit jarring and sometimes confusing to read. The dialogues are most of the time cringe and do not suit the speaker based on how they are characterized. The romance is not that believable to me because our main characters do not have any chemistry at all. Their romance felt forced and not at all interesting for my liking.

I didn't feel the chemistry between Jane and Gareth. I found Jane in particular hard to connect with and felt sorry for Gareth. I couldn't understand what he saw in her as to me she read cold and manipulative.

Phew, that was a close call. First off, Gareth has a heck of a time getting Jane to agree to marry him. She finally says yes, then things get sketchy from there. We all wonder is Gareth even going to make it to the altar? I really enjoyed, The Widow Wore Plaid. It kept me guessing throughout the whole book.

Jane and Gareth's story is unique and refreshing in many ways. I couldn't help but love the devotion Gareth showed throughout the story, and Jane's struggle with her concern of losing her independence was well-written and understandable as the author revealed more about her prior experience with marriage and motherhood. Both characters are interesting and nuanced, which isn't always a given for this genre.

One highlight that I think readers may not like is that this can be read stand-alone, but if you haven't read the prior novels in the series, you do miss a lot of the background and history surrounding the couple and may feel a bit adrift especially in the beginning of the story. This is easily overcome as the chapters breeze by and you become immersed in the story and the couple, but some readers may not enjoy that potential hurdle.

The story may feel a bit slow at first, but as conflict and mystery are introduced surrounding threats to Gareth's life, the speed picks up quickly and rather intensely. It made the novel more difficult to put down, and I found myself gravitating towards reading even when I really couldn't spare the time! Towards the end as the suspense was at a pinnacle, all of the small things that didn't endear me right away to them were trivial and overcome quickly.

All in all this was a romantic and, of course, sexy story with a very suspenseful plot.

Jane and Gareth were a wonderful way to conclude this series. The Widows club only has one hold out, Jane. Gareth has asked for her hand in marriage so many times that he won't ask her again. When she changes her mind, everyone agrees to stay over from the house party to see them wed.. There is just one issue, they have to figure out who is trying to kill Jane and Gareth first. Readers will love this book.

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I enjoyed it. Jenna Jaxon has created a world full of unique characters, passionate love, and of course family drama. I found myself rooting for the H/h in this tale and hoping they would be able to overcome sinister plots to get their deserved HEA. The story kept me engaged from cover to cover and I now want to go back and read books 1-5 of the series.

The main character, Jane Tarkington, really annoyed me throughout the book. I found her very manipulative and her interactions with Gareth did not make it seem like they would work out as a couple. I enjoyed the other books in the series, but I think I liked this one the least. It was an okay read, but I would likely not read it a second time.

Honestly I liked the blurb and wanted to read it. I found an ARC at NetGalley and this is an honest review

The book started off well, with an interesting premise and witty dialogues and narration. However, as it progressed and more and more characters got introduced it became clear to me that I would probably need to read the prequels to understand the characters and their dynamics. To be honest, it was very confusing to understand the relationships to one another.

Now the MCs
From the little I have been able to read I can say without a doubt that while Kinellan is a persistent H and sometimes even quite adorable our h Jane on the other hand is an absolute selfish b*&ch from the very beginning. She had on multiple occasions thwarted the H's proposal of marriage despite knowing that his intentions are honourable towards her to the point where he is willing to take care of her children from her previous marriage. Jane is a widow and a mother of four (I believe) who lost her husband in one of the Nepoleonic wars. While she enjoys being a widow with independence, she also enjoys being chased around by our H who is completely and irrevocably in love with her and wants to marry her. While our H wants to marry her for all the right reasons and so that he may have a legitimate heir to his title, our h loves nothing more than to continue having trysts and being chased around by him but at the same time is not willing to let go of him and let him have a normal life with another woman as his wife and mother to his heir. Granted perhaps the H would not be happy with another woman, but hey if you value your freedom so much, and if that is a limitation for the person you claim to love so much, then set him free - be selfless and kind.

A few chapters into the story I found Jane to be manipulative and selfish. She does not try to understand or grasp the importance of the situation or the other person's point of view. She has four. children from her previous marriage and she is estranged with the first two. Why? Because her husband did not allow her to spend enough time with them. This argument is acceptable while her husband was alive, after all women really did not have much of a choice or say in matters above their husbands. However, it has been quite sometime that her husband was dead and she was out of her mourning period too, since she was attending house parties and likes, despite that she has made zero attempt to reconcile or get close to her estranged children. Her only argument to this is that she has never learned how to be a mother since her dead husband did not allow her to be one. What a load of bull*&^%.

I absolutely hated her with a passion. Anyways, if you want to read this story, then by all means go right ahead, but be prepared to start by disliking our h. For the sake of all of you who would read it to the end, I hope that there are some redeeming qualities to Jane's character. I am however not patient enough to find it.

Big, fat HUZZAH for this read. It was such a good one, and seeing as I'm having a rather cruddy week, exactly what I needed.

Cassidy and Markus meet under unusual conditions: Markus, staying at a friend's house while recovering from a stabbing, has fallen from a ladder and is unconscious on the floor. His K9 partner Ghost--clearly the smarter of the two--has jumped through a glass window and gone to Cassidy's house for help. Cassidy has no idea what to expect when she follows the beautiful white dog back to her neighbor's house, but she rises to the occasion. Barely able to walk herself after suffering a pretty intense car accident a year ago, she still manages to get the giant man into her car and to the hospital without incident. (Leaving the hospital is another story.)

From there, their relationship--both platonic and romantic--grows exponentially, though Markus' allergy to love and happiness is a definite road block. Add in more than one murder attempt and break in and you have the recipe for a perfect romantic suspense novel that will keep you reading long into the night.

Cassidy is a great heroine, strong and resilient and still sweet and vulnerable. If I had any complaints about her, it's that she's way too forgiving. But that probably says more about me than her. For his part, Markus is a great hero. Like Cassidy, he's strong and resilient, but unlike her, he's emotionally stunted. A difficult childhood with an emotionally absent father has left its mark, and he's not sure he can be the man that Cassidy needs.

Interestingly, intimacy between the two takes quite a while to occur, but you don't miss it. There's so much going on, and I appreciate that the two have a chance to get to know each other before taking that giant step. And when they do, it's both glorious and hot.

I'm sorry that I haven't read the previous books in the series, but I'm definitely going to track them down. And I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!
