Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. It was so enjoyable! The deception, the lies, the New York setting and the twists made this one hard to put down. It’s not my usual kind of read but I really liked the format, part diary and part correspondence by FBI, banks and emails. Flew through this book!

After the initial pages, I found myself not connecting with the story or characters, so I decided to pass on this book. Did not finish

NYU student Lora Ricci’s internship at ELLE Magazine introduces her to the cutthroat world of fashion and the wealthy people who populate the industry. When Cat Wolff, a contributing editor to the magazine and daughter of a wealthy mogul, takes Lora on as a mentee, Lora is initially thrilled. She agrees to become Cat’s ghostwriter and drops out of school to focus full time on writing. As the two begin working on the book, Lora soon realizes that all is not as it seems; Cat comes and goes at all hours, and bills seem to go unpaid. The book and its format (emails, FBI reports, diary entries, and more) are fabulous, and I recommend going into it with little knowledge of the story to ensure nothing gets spoiled. It is a wild and crazy ride and just so well done.

I started this book at 10 pm. And read it all the way through in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. Although I figured out the twist ending long before it happened it was still such a delightful and fun book to read.

Loved this one! It is a story of deception and lies wrapped with some truth. A fun read along the lines of My Friend Anna. I loved that I didn’t know which character to trust or whom to believe. The ending was perfect!
Thank you Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I can not truly describe how much I loved this book! it was fast paced and twisty with great writing and character development. Best book I've read about a con artist in a long time!

Thank you William Morrow for gifting me a copy of this book to review via NetGalley. This book is the perfect summer/beach read - it's fairly short since many sections of the story are told through things like emails and text exchanges, and it's a page turner. I don't want to say too much about the story other than that it's about an intern at Elle magazine who falls under the spell of an Austrian heiress. If that sounds interesting to you, check it out!

This will certainly appeal to our YA readers and those embarking on a new career at the end of their college days. Young girl finds her dream job and all appears to be to good to be true. However, when this happens it usually is. Although not my kind of genre, I must admit that I had to carry on reading just to see what would happen.

I'd heard such good things about this book, I was really excited to read it. Good news: it's a very fast-paced book, with a great ending. Bad news: it just didn't feel that new or unique of a story, after reading various stories about the Anna Delvey scam. I would definitely read more books by this author, but this one felt a bit of a letdown after all the great reviews I'd read.

Many thanks to Harper Collins Book Club Girl Early Read program and NetGalley for an ARC of this title.

This was a super fun read! I'm obsessed with all things Anna Sorokin/Delvey and enjoyed this fictional spin on her scammer story more than "My Friend Anna," the memoir written by her friend. Rigetti's writing is funny and sharp and I didn't see the twist coming. Put this one in your beach bag, people. You can thank me later.

Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow Custom house for the copy to review.

Cover Story by Susan Rigetti was just so good that I flew through it. I had seen some people talking about in their stories and knew I had to dive in.

I loved the format with things like emails and diary entries that each tell part of the story.

This is one of those books where the ending will blow your mind and leave you wondering. Big thanks to @basicbsguide for helping me connect the dots and figure out the missing piece.

Go read this book!

Dropping out of college after losing her scholarship, Lora Ricci lands a summer internship at ELLE magazine. While there she meets Cat Wolff, contributing editor. Cat takes Lora under her wing, asking her to help with side projects while helping Lora pursue her dream of becoming a writer - all while conning everyone!
Between diary entries, text messages, Instagram posts, and FBI and news reports - it was a very unique writing style. I liked it! And the twist at the (literal) very end of the book was excellent!

Thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for this review copy.

I am 100% completely blown away by Susan Rigetti's debut Cover Story! Why aren't more people talking about this fantastically compelling book? It needs to be in the hands of everyone because it is one finely crafted masterpiece. A perfect summer beach read, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy today!

Combining a series of diary entries, correspondence, and documents with propulsive narration, Cover Story tells the tale of Lora Ricci, a NYU drop out who takes a summer internship at ELLE magazine and meets an enigmatic heiress named Cat Wolff. After the summer is over, Cat takes Lora, who is struggling to find her footing after flunking out of college, under her wing and employs her as her ghost writer, inviting her to live with her at the glamorous Plaza hotel while the two compose a series of short stories that they hope to get picked up by a major publishing house. Lora's life now has infinite purpose and as she begins to realize her dreams, she also notices that something is not quite right with her new best friend, Cat. Lora can't help but feel that Cat is keeping secrets, but what does a simple girl like Lora know? Maybe an elusive life is the price you pay when you are as wealthy and well-connected as Cat is ... or rather, as Cat purports to be.

Cover Story is an insanely clever caper story complete with literal jaw-dropping twists. Rigetti has surely secured her place in the literary world for composing a tale that is not only inventive and original, but entirely readable and engaging as well. The book moves at a fast clip, and readers will find their heads spinning as they scramble to stay hot on Cat's trail as she pulls the wool over everyone's eyes ... even those reading this "hiding in plain sight" romp through the world of con artistry. Perfect for fans of Netflix's Inventing Anna and Kirstin Chen's Counterfeit, Cover Story is a book that you won't be able to stop talking about.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!

From the very beginning, I was enraptured with this story. I can't place my finger on it exactly, but there was just something about this book that sucked me in and held me there... much like Cat Wolff held Lora Ricci in her grasp as well.

I had How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days vibes, 13 Going on 30 vibes, Catch Me If You Can vibes... all rolled into one. This was such a light story that got heavier as it went on. It had twists that I didn't see coming, and the ending was amazing! I don't want to recap the book because there was so much going on and I don't want to ruin anything, but I could not put it down. I binged it in a day. (I ended up listening to the audio version and the narrator did a fantastic job, especially with the different voices and accents.)

This is a book that I will be thinking about for a long time and probably one I would read again in the future. I will also be looking forward to more book from this author, 5 stars, and then 5 more. One of my favorite reads of 2022.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A middle-class college student, Lora, works her way through community college and a state university to receive a scholarship to NYU. She excitedly accepts a summer internship at Elle Magazine about the same time she loses her scholarship. Through her internship, she meets Cat Wolfe. She teams up with Cat, well at least she thinks it's a partnership, she is actually working for free, to write short stories and novels with the hope of making it big.

Cat has an "Anna Sorkin" like life, always seemingly having money, but never doing anything to earn it. Cat's true story is eventually revealed but Lora's true involvement will surprise the reader with a twist at the very end.

Fast read with an unexpected ending. If you liked Netflix's Impersonating Anna, this is of the same genre.

I received an advanced copy of this from #Netgalley.

I had a hard time with this book. I didn't like the back and forth with what was going on in the story and I felt like it was a bit confusing. The characters annoyed me but I did think it was well written. It may have been a case of wrong book, wrong time.
