Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this.

Two widowers meet by chance and by mistaken identity (on part of other's) and end up not only meeting at the train station but also at the accommodation that they are staying at.

Unlike other historical romances, where there is an instant attraction, this is one that slowly builds up, due to the past marriages they had both faced.

The best part for me was the maturity of the main characters, instead of the young and impulsive characters one usually reads, as noted earlier.

I enjoyed this story a lot more than I expected.

This was a great story about love at any age, which as I'm about to turn 40 soon, was lovely to read about when done so well. Both characters have gone on a holiday to recover after war and trying to recover while still working has been unsuccessful. Through mixups involving having the same last name, they ultimately spend the time as husband and wife in public and fall in love. They develop quite a bond in a short time, and when gossip causes a rift, it is painful for them both. The happy ending is such a relief for everyone, the reader included! #netgalley #hisladyoffire

This was a short book, almost like a longer novella, and I think the story is good but a bit rushed.

Mary Stanfield is a widow who gets confused as Major Albon Stanfield’s wife numerous times during a vacation, which leads to them sharing a room at their inn and going along with the pretense that they’re married. They end up having genuine feelings for each other, but a misunderstanding about Albon’s first marriage and the metaphorical scars of Mary’s first marriage get into the way, until they work past that and get their happily ever after.

The best part about this book was that we had mature leads who weren’t in the young dewey eyed stage. But as I was reading more, they didn’t always act like they were of a more mature age. And this is where I think the length of the book makes the story suffer. It was insta-love. I mean, they seriously fall in love after a day and a half? If the book was longer, I definitely think this relationship could have been more developed and believable. I think this would have been better with more character development but as a short story it was a light but overall pretty good read.

Lovely story with mature characters who open themselves to second chances. An easy read, HEA. Appropriate to era.

I really enjoyed this one! I had expected a full length novel, so I do have to say that I was surprised to discover this was shorter. While I do wish this were longer to allow a bit more character development, I enjoyed it all the same.

In novellas, instalove seems to be a common problem. Somehow, this one dodged that bullet, and managed to cultivate a slowburn romance that I loved. Mary and Albon's relationship was so sweet, and it developed so naturally.

I also really liked both of our characters. Mary being a nurse was a super neat twist, and I loved how it was one of the things that brought them together. I loved how neither of them rushed their relationship, lust wasn't the driving factor.

This was a fresh historical romance, and I really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on future books from this author!
