Absolutely adorable middle grade animal story about a young owl who can talk to trees and becomes an outcast because of it. This is funny, sweet and gripping by turns – enjoyed even by somone in her 40s! I will definitely be trying to get copies of the books for my library. Perfect tale about discovering who you are.

More than anything in the world, Screech wants to become a wizard. But his dreams of wielding magic are shattered when he’s stripped of his scrolls, wand and robe. With his future uncertain, Screech discovers a hidden and dormant power. Can he learn to control it? Will his new found talent be able to help the sequoias before it's too late? Or will dark forces triumph and overrun the grove?

What a fun read! This was definitely up my street: talking animals, magic, adventure, under dogs and villains, this story had it all.

DeLeo has created a world full of excitement and wonder and a whole host of enthralling characters full of intrigue and mystery.

It was a welcome change to my normal YA fantasy read with the characters embodying local wildlife (who couldn’t love a group of talking owls) and set in a forest filled with talking trees and adventure at every turn.

A fun and enjoyable read in a world that DeLeo brings alive with descriptive imagery and prose. Also… there are other books in the series that I will be checking out.

I loved the cover of this book. It’s what first attracted me to read it. I love books that are similar to Brian Jacques ‘Redwall’ in that animals are the speaking characters.
This was great read which was surprisingly fast.
There was a lot to keep up with as far as who was bad and who was good snd I wonder if average middle schoolers would be able to keep up? Overall a satisfying read and it wrapped up well. I enjoyed it and will read the first two books in the series.
This is an honest review of ARC I received from NetGalley.

The Owl Apprentice is another adorable, adventurous book in the Fantastic Tails Adventure series! I should point out that I proofread this book for the author, but that doesn't change the fact that I had a brilliant time reading it, and I fell in love with Screech and his journey towards self-confidence. This would be a great read for readers a little too young for Redwall, or anyone who likes tales of magic, nature, and learning to stand up for yourself. Probably my favourite of the series so far!
