Jim and Flick meet at Oxford Uni, fall in love, and plan to live happily ever after.

Enter the interfering mother-in-law who thinks Jim is not good enough for her Felicity (Flick).

Jim moves to Scotland to start over as a single man after ambitious Flick has left him.
He runs a coffee shop as well as the local campground - meanwhile Flick is going
great guns in the art world in London.

Tragedy strikes and some characters have to re-evaluate their lives.

All throughout you are left feeling for one side or the other and you just have to keep turning the pages
to follow all the twists and turns. Even though I picked up on a couple of the mysteries before they were revealed I enjoyed this quick read.

This was originally published in 2013 as Through the Glass.

My thanks to NetGalley, Claire Fenby from Boldwood Books and Lisa Hobman for an advance copy.

It's always hard to enjoy a book when you don't like the main character and I didn't like Flick/Felicity at all. The story has a slow start which I found more frustrating rather than intriguing. It's a nice story but not one that left a lasting memory I'm afraid.

It’s not very often I come across a character I instantly dislike, but Felicity (a.k.a Flick) is definitely one of them. Okay so it does turn out that it’s not 100% her fault, but initially I found her insensitive and brash and just deplorable. Whereas her husband James (a.k.a Jim) seems so innocent and sensitive and vulnerable. But other background characters come in who are just so vile and possessive that they make my skin crawl. Flick is a bit too naive and Jim is a bit too forgiving for my taste, but their changes in attitudes and behaviours change so rapidly it’s a bit like whiplash.

Lisa’s description of Sunset Cottage is so beautiful, and the idea of setting up shop as a writer looking over the Scottish lochs and mountains just sounds idyllic. I’ve always liked the idea of moving to a little cottage in the Scottish highlands and this do nothing to persuade me otherwise.

This isn’t just your everyday romcom. It is full of twists and turns, heartbreak, passion, espionage, heroes and villains, but mostly it’s about figuring out what we would do for the ones we love. The characters chance and become more likeable, more well-rounded, more experienced, and more human.

There are some bits that feel perhaps a bit far fetched and implausible, but they are expertly woven into the reality of the story that they become believable. Whilst I enjoyed it all, I definitely think its highlights come in the second half.

It was love at first sight when talented art student Felicity “Flick” Johnston-Hart and Jim MacDuff’s worlds collided at Oxford University.
However, after years of blissful marriage, everything crashes down when their marriage comes to a painful and abrupt end, thanks to Flick’s interfering mother Penelope.
Finally succumbing to maternal pressure, Flick falls into the high-flying career her mother believed she was destined for.
However, she soon realises life without Jim isn’t all she’d hoped, and that some decisions, once made, cannot be undone.
Meanwhile, Jim is settling back into life as a single man in the beautiful Highland village of Shieldaig, when an unexpected visitor brings painful news. A letter from beyond the grave leads him to do something he never imagined and takes him on a journey he didn’t anticipate.
Can either of them heal and truly move on?
Or is it true that a broken heart can never be a blank canvas?
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book. I don't think I have ever read anything by Lisa Hobman but now I have found her I will be hunting down other titles! Warm, uplifting, heart-wrenching, funny are just a few ways to describe how I felt reading this story. Less formulaic than others in the genre, it wasn't all hearts and flowers and I really liked that. The characters were in the main relatable and the story is well written with twists and turns, but most of all it has you hooked from page one. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have no hesitation to recommending it to anyone.

Flick and Jim met at University, fell in love and got married.
A few years later Flick has decided that she wants more out of life and her high flying job, reverts back to her full name Felicity and tells Jim he needs to grow up and then leaves him. Broken hearted Jim or James as her posh mother Penelope calls him agrees to a divorce and moves to Scotland
Fast forward and circumstances throw them back together again where both realise they still love each other but neither wants to be the first to say it although the story doesn't end there though there are more unexpected twists and turns before they finally admit their feelings to each other

Loved this book.
Don't want to give any spoilers.
But glad flick is OK and I new Ellie was in on it. I kinda want a sequel but as it ended on a happy ending I bet there won't be.
I'm glad they finally kissed and made up.
Would love to give this book 10 stars but only allowed to give 5 but it was so good can't wait to buy it and read it again.

Really enjoyed this book, was wonderfully written and so descriptive of Scotland, it sounded truly magical
We follow Flick and Jim who met while at university and eventually married, Flick thinks she wants more than her boring marriage to Jim and realises a little to late that she does still love her ex husband and trys to see if there is any chance left for them
Really enjoyed the storyline and at times found me saying no Jim, don't be stupid she will do it again
This story shows true love conquers all in the end
Loved the characters especially Jim and Jasper the dog

Lisa writes the most adorable male characters. Jim is just so gorgeous and his love for Flick is complete.
Instantly attracted to each other as students at Oxford, they seem the perfect couple until Flick’s interfering mother sticks her oar in and starts sowing seeds of doubt into Flicks mind about her relationship choice.
You really feel the heartbreak Jim suffers at the start of the story, it’s raw and all consuming. However his love for Flick is such that he ultimately lets her go so she will be happy.
I enjoyed the flashbacks to their student days and their first moments as a loved up couple, it gave you an insight to their love before the doubts and hectic lifestyle took over.
Some very tender moments, the wonderful relationship Jim had with his father in law really touched my heart. Flick wasn’t as likeable at first, her cold treatment at the start created an image of someone who only thought of themselves. However as the story progresses you begin to understand her actions and her regret is honest and open.
It’s a lovely book that captured my attention and had me reading avidly.
It’s always such a pleasure reading Lisa’s gorgeous books ❤️

The book started as many romance novels do with a couple splitting up. I thought it would then centre on one of the couple starting their life over and meeting somebody new. This was not the case. The plot seemed to change randomly and there was no smooth transition from one part to the next. The added mystery in the centre seemed like an afterthought. I didn’t care for the female lead, she seemed selfish and hard to like. The whole book seemed like a mashup of ideas and it left me not caring what happened. Characters were randomly introduced with no backstory, some being no part of the plot while others were major players but seemed like last minute additions. I appreciate the opportunity to read this ARC.

This was a really good and engaging read and my first book by this author and won’t be my last. The story took the reader on the journey of the two main characters felicity and Jim who met at university which is where their love began and blossomed through the ups and downs of the relationship and their lives and leads to them looking inside themselves to what they both thought they wanted in life wasn’t actually what they did want in reality and how they have dealt with the pain of not being good enough or thinking they Didnt love each other enough to be together and how certain events can change your situation and If love is meant to be it can be cemented forever.

The story felt a bit slow to get going but after about the first third it picked up pace, and became more interesting.

It’s basically the story of Flick and Jim and the ups and downs of their relationship. It’s told over a number of years, with the story moving between current times and flahsbacks to fill the reader in on the history.

The descriptions of Scotland were especially vivid, and you get a real sense the author has fondness for it in particular

This is the second book I’ve read by this author. Whilst I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first one, I did like it overall.

If you are looking for a love story with a bit of a twist, then this ones for you. We follow the lives of Jim(james) and Flick(felicity) The story dips between the past, where they met up at uni, until the present day. Parts of the story had me almost shouting at the characters within the book, especially Flicks mother! There is a twist or two that you may not see coming, which really adds to the story.

This story follows Felicity/Flick and Jim through their journey of being a separated couple, switching between past and present as they try to decide if love can forgive everything?

I really enjoyed this story, my only big bare was that I really did not like Felicity/Flick and I felt as if Jim deserved so much more.

A HUGE thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an eARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Confident Jim and shy Flick meet at Oxford University. They fall deeply in love and marry, much to Flick's mother's dismay - Jim is not wealthy enough, ambitious enough, simply just not enough for her daughter. When Flick listens to her mother, she asks Jim for a divorce. This is the story of their lives, both together and apart.

On the whole I enjoyed this book, it twisted my emotions, making me laugh and cry. I loved Jim, his down to earth ways and self confidence were great qualities. Flick on the other hand took me a long time to warm to, I wanted Jim to move on from her self centred life style, and making everything about her. I did however find myself feeling more for her in the latter third of the book.

I'll definitely be looking out for more by this author in future.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Flick wants a change after being married for several years. She thinks that they are heading in different directions. Flicka realizes that she may have been wrong and hopes that they can rekindle their relationship i enjoyed the chemistry between Flick and Jim.

One hell of a love story. Beautiful . It had it all interfering mothers, true love, a beautiful setting. Thinking it was important to have a caree rather than follow your dreams. The twists with Flick were great. What happened in New York had you gripped. . Julian was great with the art show. . I really enjoyed it.

This story revolves around Flick and Jim, it’s a rollercoaster of a story covering all types of emotions. An exceptionally well written book which has the reader engrossed from the opening page. I have to say that I genuinely had no idea as to how the storyline would develop but I was pleasantly surprised.
