As an elementary school teacher, I’m always on the lookout for books that teach about emotions. Children have a difficult time putting their feelings into words and books like this held provide them with the tools to help. This book is one in a series and the focus is on feeling joyful. There are photographs of real children which is more helpful for kids to relate to than illustrations. I highly recommend this series of feelings books for those who work with young children.

This title is part of a series that helps children to recognize and respond to their emotions. Each entry is filled with photos of kids and adults who represent many races and whose photos illustrate the featured emotion. These photos add to the text.

In this entry, children are asked to think about what leads to their joyful feelings. The author acknowledges that the answer is different for different people, while also observing that no one feels joyful all the time. There are suggestions for a child might do to help them feel better at such moments.

This book can open the door to discussion with a child. Having access to books about many emotions will, the author believes, lead to social-emotional learning.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This is a very good children's book, which talks about what feeling joyful is, how it feels, when you might feel joyful, and it gives advice on what to do to help you feel joyful, such as creating or building something, or cuddling a loved one. The book is full of easy to read text and stunning photographs, which help to portray the message of the book to young children. It also has a word list at the end of the book, which shows high-frequency words and content words. My daughter and I really enjoyed the book and we both learned a lot from it.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Norwood House Press for a copy of "Feeling Joyful" in exchange for my honest review.

This book is a wonderful tool for parents and caregivers to use with children to discover their feelings. It helps with social and emotional learning. With help children will learn to recognize, name and manage feelings. The photos in the book correctly display the emotion. Parents/caregivers can talk to children about what the people in the pictures are doing. Children can talk about what brings then joy and how to show joy.

There are activities to talk about with children at their own level. Activities that parents and children can do together. Children can sound out new words with help. They can trace letters. There is a Further Reading Book List for parents as well as a Word List from the book. Practice will bring fluency in language.

Even as a grown adult I could probably benefit from thumbing through this every once in a while!

This is a very joyful exploration of joy. I love that it celebrates joy but also reminds the reader that while we can all find joy, no one is joyful all the time and joy is sometimes quiet.

The suggestions for how to cultivate joy are simple and accessible to young kids and will be very helpful in growing their emotional intelligence and resilience. The illustrations are evocative and engaging as well!

As with others in this series, suggested reading, discussion questions, and fluency resources are included. I can't wait to get a copy for my classrooms and I would definitely recommend this for all pre-K/elementary school, classroom, and personal libraries.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
