Do you enjoy time travel stories mixed with romance, mystery, and a dash of supernatural? Then this is the book or series is the book you should be picking up!

I had randomly picked up the first novel of this series in March of 2021 and when I saw the availability to request the second novel on NetGalley and immediately jumped. At first when I started the novel, I was not sure that I would enjoy it nearly as much as the first, but I quickly got invested in the story and the characters.
Armstrong creates characters in a manner that you absolutely adore them or know that there is something off about them and in turn causing havoc throughout the story. I was immediately drawn in when I learned Rosalind would be in disguise as the governess of her young son. I am a nanny and found that premise so interesting to be a part of through the novel. I enjoyed the entire premise that she needed to figure out more about her husband and son to know if she is willing to come forward that she never died and fell through time. Armstrong is writing another novel in this series, and I am so excited to eventually pick it up.

I enjoyed that this novel took a different approach then the first of the series which was refreshing that it was not hashing the same plot and storyline. This book took a more personal approach without a huge mystery about ghosts and murder. Armstrong seems to be more focused on the characters and their individual personalities and trying to reconnect as a family after an unexplainable incident that causes Rosalind to be taken from her husband and son. This book is the perfect mix of romance, mystery, and supernatural for me that refreshes my sense after reading a lot of the same types of novels. I fully recommend this series and will happily continue along with the series and pick up other series written by Armstrong along the way.

Thank you to NetGalley and Subterrarean Press from the E-ARC for an honest review of the novel!

Book #2 in the A Stitch in Time series. The story can be read as a stand alone, but it was much better since I had read book #1.....A stitch in Time. Kelley Armstrong builds her series in layers, a rich backstory with well flesh out characters that makes the stories much, much better. Im one of her dedicated readers, I can't stand the wait between books. In this story, we meet Rosalind Courtenay, a background character from the first book. She disappeared, leaving her husband and infant son wondering what could have happened to her. In A Twist of Fate, Rosalind has returned, but how she will explain her absence is complicated. The story jumps timelines but it gives more depth amd an interesting "twist" to the story. If you have never read any of Kelley Armstrong's extensive library of best sellers.....what are you waiting for?????

Kelley Armstrong throws a lot into this novel: a Gothic ghost story, Victorian romance, time-travel, and a mystery, and she does it all seamlessly with her usual outstanding skill.

It begins when Rosalind (“Rosie) Courtenay falls into a time slip moving from the nineteenth century to the twenty-first, and it takes her four years to find her way back. By that time, she is not at all certain her relatively new husband August would not have remarried, and she longed to see her son Edmund, only an infant when she inadvertently deserted him.

She “almost hopes” August has moved on, but of course she doesn’t really, as she remains deeply in love with him. But while Rosalind is now 31, August will be 40 soon and Edmund will be five; Edmund will have needed someone to help care for him.

It happens that August has been hiring governesses for that job, and Rosalind finds herself in the position to fill the latest opening. She disguises herself and returns to her old house to find out what has happened in the last four years. But she gets more than she anticipated when she finds someone - possibly a ghost - is trying to get rid of her.

In a brief exchange with August, she discerns that he resents his wife greatly for having, in his view, deserted them. Moreover, an attempted murder and kidnap add to her problems.

But Rosie, intrepid like all of Kelley Armstrong’s heroines, soon gets to the bottom of what is going on in that house. Can she win back her family though?

Evaluation: I love this author. She is so good, especially with romances, even if she does have her male leads speak in a “husky voice” when aroused or beset by emotion. (Whenever I ask my husband why he won’t talk to me in “a husky voice,” he just laughs hysterically.). No matter, I was entranced as always, and can’t wait for more.

When Rosalind is spirited away into the future, what happens to those left behind? Jealousy, Anger, heartbreak, guilt, and dark secrets spill out in an unexpected manner. In this time traveling piece, we return to the Stitch in Time series. This can be read as a standalone book.

Rosalind is a new bride with with an overly protective husband and an adorable new born. She has everything she hoped for, except now, her loving husband is forcing her to walk on eggshells. She is constantly afraid of making him jealous. This does not bode well. Worse, when she tries to prevent her husband from flying into a jealous snit, she falls through a slip in time.

I have to admire Rosalind for finding a way to not only survive in the modern era but to actually thrive. It couldn't have been easy. Ms. Armstrong glosses over this piece and compresses time for readers to enjoy the meat of the story. Returning back to the past but years later must be disorienting. Rosalind's integration back into the family she left behind is both poignant and heartwarming.

I enjoyed the character interactions in this story. I also liked Rosalind for her determination. What I didn't expect was the mystery and multiple secrets that are revealed. Whilst the first two-third of the book moves at a slow pace, the last third picks up and whirls through to a satisfying conclusion.

I am mixed about these time travel books from Ms. Armstrong. They are different than her paranormal series Otherworld. I loved that series and I also enjoy Rockton, the murder mystery one. I adored her Nadia Stafford trilogy. This new series is kind of sci-fi with an element of romance. The two aren't gelling exactly right for me and I can't quite explain it. The story is well written, I just don't particularly like the romance part. For me, Ms. Armstrong's strengths have always been the world building, plots and character development. The romance part falls a little flat for me.

This historical romance defies categorization and is recommended to readers who enjoy a bit more sci-fi with a twist of gothic romance.

I am not generally a fan of romance or Gothic novels, However, I am a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong and no matter what the genre, she doesn't disappoint.

The MC, Rosalind, was mentioned in the first book so it was no surprise the focus here is on her disappearance and subsequent return.

Through mysterious circumstance, Rosalind winds up as a governess to her abandoned 5 year old son, living in the same manor as her bereft husband.

While it is an eerie Gothic romance, the author depicts the emotional turmoil and subsequent development as neatly as she solves the long standing mystery.

I recommend this book to all fans of gothic romance, mystery and Kelley Armstrong.

I received a free ARC and this is my honest review.

Just like the first book in the series this second one had me hooked from the beginning and I'm very happy about that because it had very large boots to fill. I loved the characters in this book and the time travelling aspect was something that I'm not used to reading a lot of so it was a nice chance of pace. This book was very interesting though because it is all about Rosalind who accidently finds herself in the twenty-first century from the Victorian England. It was nice to get a back story on this character who first made her appearance in the first story. While I didn't like her character as much as William's or Bronwyn's I did like parts of her. It was interesting to see Rosalind try to fit in, in the new world when her real world was so different. This book was also a nice addition and helped open up a series to a lot of new possibilities. There was so much more information and back story given to the much loved character August and it was very captivating. Very good read and I can't wait to see what else this series has in store for it's readers. If you like time travel and historical fiction than this is the book for you.

Rosalind Courtenay goes for a midnight ride to 19th-century Thorne Manor and ends up lost and adrift in the 21st century. As far as her husband knows, Rosalind has disappeared in to thin air, either run away in the night or fallen off a cliff by the moors. When Rosalind finally returns to the 1800s, she disguises herself as a governess to rejoin the family she left behind. But her return to Courtenay House, reveals a home haunted with both the living and the dead. Rosalind yearns to drop her disguise, but the more she uncovers, the more uncertain she is of her husband's love and her place back in time. As the mysterious haunting unfolds, Rosalind soon learns that someone wants her to disappear again--this time permanently.
I picked up A Twist of Fate after having devoured the first book in the series, A Stitch in Time. While I appreciated Rosalind's assimilation of 21st century feminist ideals and elaborate science-baking lessons, her story didn't quite capture my imagination the way Bronwyn and William's did. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed returning to the world of Thorne Manor and revisiting some beloved characters. Rosalind and her son Edmund's relationship was especially sweet, while her interactions with August left me cold. Armstrong deals with some very real relationship issues in this one, especially concerning the possessive and jealous August. Those who fell in love with August in the first book will relish the chance to dive into his backstory and explore his motivations. The mystery regarding the haunting takes a backseat to the tension between Rosalind and August, but in the end, they get their happy ending, which is really all that matters!

A Twist of Fate is the terrific follow-up to Kelley Armstrong’s first foray into time travel, A Stitch in Time . In this story of time travel, Rosalind Courtenay the wife of August Courtenay, accidentally falls into the same slip or switch in time that brought the William Thorne and Bronwyn together in the first book.
Instead of all of the gothic elements of the first book, this story is more about the personalities than about ghosts and murder.
August had a miserable upbringing, with a mother dead in childbirth and a father who hated him. As the third son of an Earl, he wasn’t even the all important spare. Although August was loving and sunny, he did have a jealous and controlling side. So much so that it is Rosalind’s midnight ride to Thorne manor to retrieve a wedding ring that causes her to fall through the time slip; also once again a calico cat helps. That darn cat.
Rosalind tries for months to return to August and her baby boy. Finally after months of hiding out in deserted Throne Manor, Rosalind decides to make her way into the modern world. This part of the book, which I should have found engrossing, left me flat. It's mostly skimmed over.
Four years later Rosalind realizes the time slip has reopened-not well explained in this book-she makes plans to return. Rosalind goes about this in a logical manner as she realizes her infant son is now five and August may have remarried in the four years she has been missing.
Rosalind is also very worried about what August thinks of her for being gone. Does he think she is dead? Or does he think she has done what he has always feared; deserting him as most everyone else he loved has done.
Rosalind has learned a lot in the modern world, especially patience and strength. Attributes she uses to plan her return. Rosalind makes her plans, knowing nothing of what awaits her. Armstrong reminds us time travel is not all fun and games; that loved ones are already dead, buried, and turned to dust. Rosalind resists the urge research her loved ones and their fates knowing she could not bear to see death dates even if long into their futures.
Despite Rosalind misleading her family with the best of intentions when she returns as a governess, their reunion does not go anything as she thought it might.
There were hauntings, kidnapping and murder, yet I thought all of disparate parts came together in a rushed manner.
Also please, all writers, ban waggling eyebrows. I counted at least three instances of waggling eyebrows.
I thought the characters were fully realized, easy to care about. There were interesting glimpses into “below stairs” of an Earl’s family seat. The ghost and her story was wrenching, but explained so much, even it was a bit rushed and mostly delivered through a convenient letter.
With a A Twist of Fate Armstrong has delivered another outstanding book. Can the woman even write a mediocre book? I doubt it.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC for review purposes.

An accidental misstep takes Rosalind from her husband and son in Victorian England to its modern day parallel. For four long years, she is stuck in the twenty first century, a frightening and confusing place for a woman straight out of history. When she is finally able to return to her time, Rosalind finds that life has moved on without her. Her son is no longer a baby. Her husband may have remarried. Time has changed them all.

I was disappointed at first that this wasn't a direct continuation of the first book. The same characters do appear, but not for very long, and not until near the conclusion. This book focuses on Rosalind, her son, and her husband. After I accepted that, I found this book to be as enjoyable as the first. There's lots of romance, ghosts, and danger. In some ways, the plot was very similar to the first book. (Which one doesn't need to read before this one. Consider them book cousins rather than sequels. On one hand, I liked the first book, so reading something so similar was enjoyable. But there were lots of differences between the books, especially with Rosalind's relationship and reconnection with her son. So, there's a lot of fresh material, and the plot isn't entirely predictable.

As in the first book, there are ghosts, hauntings, murder mysteries, and good storytelling. I like how the plot didn't focus solely on the romance, but spent a nice amount of time with mother-son bonding and other subplots. Most fantasy books don't feature characters who are already parents, so I really enjoyed the mother-child & family perspective.

This was a nice read, well written, with great characters. I give it about 3.7 stars out of 5.

A Twist of Fate is the second book Kelley Armstrong has written in her time travel series. This is a stand alone story. Rosalind accidentally finds herself in the twenty-first century. She continues trying her best to return to her time and finally manages to do it. But so much time has passed she feels she must ease her way in before announcing who she actually is. I really enjoyed this story, at times I was kept on the edge of my seat. I want to thank NetGalley and Subterranean Press for a copy to review.

A Twist of Fate started a little slowly IMO, but once Rosalind is being haunted by a ghost, the pace picked up. This gothic mystery includes time travel, ghostly phenomena, and romance. It’s a well constructed and entertaining tale with a bit of an unexpected ending. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so all I'll say is that if you’re a fan of Kelley Armstrong’s paranormal novels, this series is well worth reading.

3.5 stars

I enjoyed the first book in this series and just recently ran across a novella somewhere from this same world. It wasn't until after I finished that short story that I realized that there was another book coming out in the series. So, I was VERY pleased when I was given the opportunity to review this ARC.

First of all, I am a fan of Kelley Armstrong and already liked the premise of the series - so I figured that I was predisposed to like book 2. But, the beginning of the book began to make me think that I might have been wrong and that maybe it wasn't going to be as good as I hoped. Why? Well, because the female protagonist in this story - Rosalind made several extremely TSTL moves right away and it was beginning to annoy me. Without going in to spoilers, let's just say that the way she decided to go about her return was as crazy and unfeasible as humanly possible.

Okay, so with that out of the way (and after I face palmed for like the 5th time) things began to settle down. Once the story gets to where it needed to be, things began to get interesting. It becomes apparent fairly quickly that things are not "normal" in Thorne Manor and there have been unusual events in the recent past...specifically with the turnover in Governesses. To add insult to injury, apparently the Manor is being haunted as well. Hmmmm......curiouser and curiouser.

I did enjoy this book - but to be honest, I liked the first book better. The character development in this book was virtually non-existent. We learn almost NOTHING about August other than the fact that he is a good father to Edmund and he is away on business a lot. Oh, and he will absolutely NOT discuss his wife or her disappearance. The other characters of Mrs. Landon, Violet and even Hugh are completely one dimensional so it is hard to feel anything about them. The characters of Rosalind and of Edmond were probably the ones given the most depth so it was so very easy to fall in love with that little boy. Rosalind, once I didn't want to shake her, also seemed to come alive as the book developed.

There is drama, intrigue, action and then even a twist in this story. Can it be read as a stand alone? Yes, I think so but it would be much better if you began with the first book. This book does not go into the how and why's of what exactly happened to Rosalind and it never explains why William and Bronwyn can come and go as they please, but apparently that was not the case for Rosie. Also, August seemed to be more alive and showed more depth of emotion in the first book - even though that story centers on William and Bronwyn.

So, would I recommend this book? Yep, I really would. But I would also suggest reading the first book, "A Stitch in Time" - and the novella that just came out (I think it was called "Ballgowns and Butterflies"...or something like that, but I'm not positive) before you jump into this one.

Excellent addition to this new series, providing insight into the side character of Rosalind from the first book. I'm really enjoying the series and I look forward to seeing how it progresses in upcoming books.

A Twist of Fate is the second in a series of time travel/supernatural novels by Kelley Armstrong. I read the 1st novel A Stitch in Time last year and really enjoyed it, so was delighted to receive a copy of A Twist of Fate.

Rosalind Courtenay has accidentally traveled to the future from the mysterious Thorne Manor. ( a weird house if there ever was one) leaving behind her beloved husband and infant son. After trying unsucessfully for several years to return to her own time, she finally succeeds. When she returns her son is no longer an infant and her husband is away on business. Posing as a governess to her son until her husband can return and she can try to make him understand that she did not abandon him, Rosalind finds out that there is a malevolent spirit intent on causing havoc. Can Roasalind reunite with her family without being destroyed in the process.?

I really enjoyed the premise of a character going forward in time, so many stories have the character going back in time. Though I love those stories for the history, it was a nice twist to have a Victorian character end up in modern times, even for a little while.

Even though this book is technically a sequel, it can be read as a standalone novel I recommend it for anyone looking for a spooky fun read for the Halloween season.

Thanks to Netgalley, Subterranean Press and the author for the chance to read and review this book.

Series Info/Source: This is the second book in the A Stitch in Time series. I got a copy of this from NetGalley to review.

Thoughts: This was a decent read. It follows a different couple than the first book; although we do see some of Bronwyn and William too. This time we are following Rosalind as she desperately tries to get back to her own time and back to her husband (August) and her son. You hear some about August and Rosalind in the first book of this series and it was nice to hear their story.

The story primarily focuses on Rosalind trying to get back to her family, spending time with them, and revealing her secrets to her husband August. There is a mystery around some hauntings and strange-going-ons as well.

I enjoyed it, it was a sweet and cute story. The mystery feels a bit forced and there is a lot of action toward the end of the book that feels a bit rushed. It was still a quick and entertaining read though. This series is fairly different from other Armstrong series in that it has that serial romance feel to it. I am enjoying these but they are more a guilty pleasure than anything and definitely not Armstrong’s strongest series, but still well done.

My Summary (4/5): Overall I enjoyed this. This was a sweet time travel love story with some ghosts and a bit of a mystery. I like the characters and the premise. The pacing did feel a bit uneven to me and this is a pretty simple and quick read. However, I still had fun reading it. This is a great Halloween read with spooky ghosts and a creepy setting. I am unsure if there will be more books in this series but I am guessing there could be a couple additional books featuring Rosalind’s sisters...time will tell.

I read "A Stitch in Time" last year and greatly enjoyed it. Before reading "A Twist of Fate," I even read it again. I devoured this book in one day. It was the perfect balance of intrigue, suspense, romance, and thrill. If you read "A Stitch in Time" you will already be familiar with August Courtenay. This book is about his wife, Rosalind, and her journey through time to reunite with her husband and child who is no longer an infant like he had been the last time she had seen him. One of the things I enjoy most about this book and "A Stitch in Time" is the way Armstrong is able to include a ghost story that is certainly creepy but will not be too much so that you are unable to sleep at night. I do hope that she continues to write more books in this series and that any future books will include a little bit of Rosalind and Bronwyn as well.

Some time travel, sprinkle in a few ghosts and add a woman determined to get home to her family and you've got A Twist of Fate.
Admittedly, this isn't one of my favorite of Armstrong's books. It felt lacking of all the juicy goodness I've come to love from Armstrong. That being said, I was glad to read the story of what had happened with Rosalind Courtenay, after learning about her in the first book in this series.

Wow, Wow! Never, ever would I have believed I would’ve enjoyed this book as much as I did. . Loved it and had trouble putting this one down!!!

Kelley Armstrong is the best! A Twist of Fate is book 2 in A Stitch of Time and love this series, as well as the other books by Armstrong. Rosie (Rosalind) is separated from her family after she jumps in time to present day. The Thorne house is a portal between 1800s and modern era. Rosie returns after 4 years and finds her young son is being haunted. The book has so many surprises - the story is unique and so interesting. Rosie and the other women in the book are strong characters who don't just sit around waiting to be 'saved'. Kelley Armstrong is an automatic pre-order for me and this book is another awesome story!
