This book has everything you want in a great gothic romance, except the steamy sex scenes of it's predecessor, "A Stitch in Time." I was graciously given an ARC via Netgalley from @SubPress and couldn't wait to jump in! I've been eagerly awaiting this follow-up to Armstrong's "A Stitch in Time" and all it's ghostly gothic romantic greatness! It was one of my favorite books of 2o2o.

In "A Twist of Fate," we meet Rosalind Courtenay (a character briefly touched on in the first book) who has accidentally traveled through time while visiting the hella-strange home of William & Bronwyn Thorne, Thorne Manor. Rosalind's husband, August (William's best friend), has been left to raise their infant son and wonder whether she was dead or had abandoned them.

Four years later, Rosalind has opened a bakery in the modern world and sees William and his new wife and child. She decides to give time-travel one last attempt and is AT LAST successful! She hops a train to her husband's family estate and ends up being tricked into being a governess for her very own son! She decides to don a disguise and suss out the situation with her man and son before revealing herself.

With a menacing ghost and someone intent on murder, explaining the outrageous truth of where she's been may be the least of her problems. Can Rosalind save herself and her family?

This is a quick read and definitely qualifies as a gothic. I just wanted more in the romance department. There are definitely a couple of love scenes that need to be elaborated on and then this book would be PERFECT! It's got great atmosphere, plot, plenty of drama and angst, and my fave, ghosts!

I hope Armstrong continues with this series or sticks with the time-travel, supernatural gothic romance formula to create a new one equally as dreamy. Who else can we throw through this bedroom time-portal? Can I volunteer?

I loved A Stitch in Time so I was very excited when I learned that Kelley Armstrong was writing a sequel. A Twist of Fate is just as good as the first one! If you like a bit of time travel mixed with historical fiction mixed with some paranormal stuff and a mystery, this book is for you.

Rosalind Courtenay unexpectedly finds herself transported from late 19th Century Yorkshire, England to the same area in the 21st Century. She desperately wants to get back to her husband and young son, but until she figures out how, she has to learn to be a modern woman. She learns a lot of science along the way, supporting herself as a baker (and loves the more comfortable modern clothing). Once back “home”, she finds that four years have passed (in both eras) and she had to figure out how to get back what/who she lost when she time-traveled. This effort forms most of the story of A Twist of Fate. Plus there are ghosts!

I loved the idea of someone going from the Victorian era to the current day and back, and all the adjustments she had to make in both time periods.

While this is a sequel, it definitely can be read as a standalone with no problems. You do get a chance to revisit the main characters (Bronwyn and William) of A Stitch in Time, but only as minor characters here.

I will read anything Kelley Armstrong writes, because I know I will enjoy it immensely.

Thank you to NetGalley and Subterranean Press for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I loved the first book in the series and this was one was just as good if not better. Rosalind is a Victorian woman who has been transported into the 21st century. She learns to adapt yet can't stop yearning for her own time with her husband and child. One day she encounters Bronwyn and realizes eventually who she is. Rosalind figures out how to get back to who own time. Once back she realizes that she can't just go to her husband August. He is angry with her as he believes she abandoned him. She must figure out a plan that will not get her thrown in an asylum if she claims she was transported to the future. A twist of fate happens and she ends up at her husband's estate only to find that there is a mystery surrounding her son and his former governesses. She must figure out how to help her family without destroying herself.

This novel was a sequel yet it could be read as a standalone. It's focus was on Rosalind and not the other characters from the previous book. I found this book fascinating and loved the mystery, adventure, romance, and of course time travel!!! There were twists and surprises that kept me reading. I really hope that there are more books in this series. This was a fantastic book and I recommend it to anyone as it had so many elements from all different genres.

Thank you to NetGalley and Subterranean Press for this advanced readers copy.

Unsurprisingly I loved this book as I do pretty much anything Kelley Armstrong writes. This is book two in this gothic time traveling series and while a third was not necessarily hinted at I do hope this will not be the end of this series. Rosalind was thought to have disappeared either died or run off and abandoned her husband August and son Edmund. This book shows what really happened - she snuck out to retrieve a belonging from Thorne Manor and she accidentally falls through the rip in time and finds herself in murders day trapped. Despite her best efforts she cannot manage to get home and years pass with her slowly adjusting to modern day. When she does find her way back to her own time she wants to proceed slowly as four years have gone by and she’s unsure how her husband will react. The writing is amazing and the characters are very compelling. Like the first book a large portion of the story is a ghost story which I love.

Continuation of the time travel story started in the first book, you don't have to read it, but it certainly sets the scene and backstop for this tale. I didn't agree with some of Rosalind's choices, but they are explained to why she does what she does, and came to like her. It was a good ghost story also, and that part of the book was completed very well. Visiting with characters from the first book was great, and hopefully the next book will continue to effectively update us on what's happening with everyone in this one. Entertaining and fun with mystery thrown in with a good who-done-it to complete it. My thanks to Subterranean Press Publishing, as well as to NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an early copy.

I loved it! This author instantly grabs you and drops you into whatever world she's spinning. Book two here tells us immediately what happened to a missing friend and it is remarkable. There are many fates and fortunate events that Rosalind steps into and each small happening evolves into a much bigger story. There was a reason for everything! Excellent book!

3.5 Stars

Who doesn't love a book about time travel?? Four years ago, Rosalind Courtenay stumbled from the nineteenth century to the twenty-first, where she has been trapped ever since, leaving her husband and infant son behind. Now she’s found her way back. Fantastic premise! I was utterly enthralled by the first two-thirds of the book. I loved the twisty mystery at the heart of it and couldn't wait to read more!! So, what happened? At that point, A Twist of Fate turned into a rather unrealistic and sappy romance novel. But the first two-thirds? WOW!!! There is not a doubt in my mind that readers who love romance novels are going to adore this book!!

Absolutely an excellent story! I loved meeting August and Edmund again and seeing what Rosalind went thru to get back was amazing. I devoured the book in one sitting cause it sucked me in.

I really enjoyed the first book in the A Stitch in Time trilogy A Snitch in Time. Once I saw the setting and that it was a Gothic Romance with time travel I was sold. The second book is almost just as enjoyable as the first book. A Twist in Fate follows after the events of the first book where we learn what happened to Rosalind Courtenay. I loved getting to follow Rosalind's story and learning more about her, August and Edmund. It was also great to see Bronwyn and William again.

A Twist in Fate is not as scary as the first book, but still has a good spooky atmosphere. At times I wanted to yell at Rosalind for some of the decisions she made, but the author did a good job explaining why she ultimately choose the more difficult paths she often took. The story was great from start to finish and I found myself finishing the book in almost one sitting. I can't wait to read the final book in the A Stitch in Time trilogy.

Thanks you to NetGalley and Subterranean Press for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received this ARC for an honest review. I didn’t start reading this book until the Tuesday after the Labor Day holiday because I knew once I started reading I couldn’t put it down, and I had big plans. "HELLO!!" It's Kelley Armsyrong. Of course I was right. I finished it in one day and I AM going to read it again. I love this series. This is book 2, and this story is about Rosalind and August. August is William’s best friend that knew about Bronwyn being from the future. Rosalind disappears soon after their son Edmund was born. In this story, we discover how Rosalind disappeared. I’m not saying how because YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!
When Rosalind returns, she gets tricked into being a governess. To whom? I’m not telling, but you can guess if you want 😉
I’m not saying more about the story because I don’t like posting spoilers. I really love how talented Kelley Armstrong is with world building. You can picture the characters and their environment. She knows how to pull you in and keep your attention. I always get lost in her stories.
I highly recommend this story.

This was a wonderful continuation of this series! Not only did we get to catch up with William and Bronwyn and their growing family, but we FINALLY get to find out what happened to Rosalind.
After 4 years struggling to find her way home, each attempt ending in failure and heartbreak.. Rosalind finally gets the sign she has been waiting for that its time to try again, and this time she is convinced its going to work.. When a strange turn of events lands her right at her old doorstep as her sons governess Rosalind has to figure out how on earth she is going to tell August who she is, and where she has been all this time.. I loved getting to see her bond with her son, even though he didn't know who she was, each moment was precious..and everytime she and August were in the same room you could feel how much she wanted him to recognize her.. While all this is going on the mystery of a ghost haunting the halls needs to solved.. Especially as she seems to be leading Edmund all over the place..
I loved this book, and this series.. they just leave me with all the good feelings, and with the added mystery of the ghost and how she plays into everything, the story keeps you hooked and needing to keep reading until the very end..

LOVED IT!!! Almost as good as Stitch In Time. Loved Rosie, August and Edmund! So glad that August got his happily ever after back. Loved him from the first book and was so sad over his turn of events as they were revealed at that time. Plus I love the added mystery in both books. Such a great read but then when isn't a Kelley Armstrong book a great read?? I wonder if there will be a 3rd book??? I hope so but now sure how it would happen.

I love Kelley Armstrong books, I know I say this Everytime, but it's so true. I started out yesterday at 15% in A Twist of Fate and ended up staying up till 2 am reading and thinking, just a bit more. First thing this morning, I got to reading and finished the amazing advance reader copy from #Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. Armstrong is still the only author that I know I can pick up any book of her's and love it, no matter the genre. She could probably write something in her sleep and it would still be excellent. Please keep writing for a long time, your books help me get through my days.
I loved learning more about Roselind in this book and her son and husband. They were introduced in the first book, A Stitch in Time, as periphery characters, and it was nice to have a book focused on them. I hope there are many more in the series (fingers crossed) as these are such fun, intriguing, suspenseful, and heart-warming stories. Thank you Kelley Armstrong and your publisher and editor and whole support staff. Never stop writing.
