Thank you NetGalley, Jennifer Hotes and Storm Mystery Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Highly recommend this book for the fall/spooky season. Jennifer Hotes does a great job building tension and creating some genuinely creepy scenes. The pace was a tad slow at times, but I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and was thrilled to see that this is the first book in a series. I will be checking out the next Witch Tree book!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect and had hoped to read something really scary.

Although it was more spooky to me than scary, I enjoyed the portrayal of the witch immensely, the lore behind the haunting along with the history behind the strange and unusual tree.

Small-town legends are something I enjoy hearing about in real life and stories and the plight of a young person making their way as a budding artist in a new city was something I truly connected with. The scene where they went into a trance and kept painting the same thing over and over was awesome. Obsessed much? Loved that part.

The ideal reader for this book might be someone who appreciates diverse, modern characters, and easy to read, coming of age stories with elements of magical realism and the paranormal.
