Another day, another school reunion/murder book.
Although the book was well-written, it was not a standout in its crowded genre since it had pacing issues and required a huge suspension of disbelief.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Peter Noble. The narration was good but not great.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Into the Lake is a captivating mystery about a young woman named Natalie who encounters (and falls for) a former school mate who is suspected of murder...
Are Natalie's feelings misplaced and is Josh guilty, or will he prove worthy of Natalie's trust?
Worth buying a copy to read this intriguing mystery.

I received a compliment audio copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my unbiased review.
I enjoyed listening to this suspenseful story. The twist and turns kept me listening. I recommend this thriller..

I enjoyed this book. Red herrings early on but I knew that’s what they were. People are mean and vindictive… Josh, Gareth, Toby, Natalie and Verity. Who was the “bad guy”?
Who killed Makayla? Is Natalie in danger?
Thank you to. NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

I expected this to be a thriller full of twists and turns. Instead, the story of Natalie going back to her old school and reconnecting with Josh, who has a dark side that she learns about as the story goes on, is more of a romance thriller combination. It was an odd combination.
In addition to the strangeness of that combination, the narration of this book was very distracting. The voices and pacing were distracting and really took me out of the story. I think this book had potential, but for the reasons mentioned I cannot recommend it.

I give credit to L.K. Chapman for writing an unpredictable suspense novel. This held my interest and kept me guessing to the bitter end.

After a car accident shattered Natalie's modeling career and her confidence, she moves out of the limelight and starts a vlog. When the invitation to attend her high school reunion arrives, Natalie musters her courage to go. The stars appear to have aligned in her favor when she meets up with Josh at the reunion. Their whirlwind relationship seems almost too good to be true when Josh proposes to her. Suddenly, however, Natalie's happiness is once again shattered when she begins receiving messages that accuse Josh of being a murderer.
The book takes some twists and turns that I did not see coming and I enjoyed both the story and the narration.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. It was such a fun read. I loved the twisty plot that kept me on the edge of my seat. I recommend!

This was my first read by L.K. Chapman and I really enjoyed this style of writing. The description didn't sound like anything overly unique, but I went in with a clear mind and immediately got into this. I will say the beginning was a bit slow but it very quickly ramped up in drama and intrigue. I really liked all of the characters and found them all interesting in their own ways with heavy topics to cover. This was a pretty tense thriller and I found myself gritting my teeth at the intense parts. There is quite a bit of suspense as well. I found this to be very well rounded and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to more from this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this advanced copy of the audiobook by LK Chapman and narrated by Peter Noble.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
It wasn't what I expected, as it seemed more like a romance. It wasn't hard to get into, just not what I was looking to read.

This twisty book was very enjoyable. I was very excited to be able to listen to this audio book as an advanced copy. The narration was great and really added additional depth to the story. There were intriguing characters that were well developed.
Natalie and Josh both have worked hard to move beyond their tragic pasts but when some strange thing start happening they find themselves questioning if there is a way forward together. Will the secrets from the past derail their future together or can they overcome them?

I started this book ready for a creepy read. The first few chapters seemed more like a romance. When books don't match my expectations, I stop reading unless it's an amazing twist or surprise.
I had no real interest in the characters so I didn't have the patience to get to the thriller parts. so I stopped reading.

A twisty psychological thriller read by a British narrator is the recipe for the perfect audiobook for me and this one does not disappoint (although I will forever prefer female audiobook narrators to avoid the cringe-factor of male audiobook narrators making female characters sound ridiculous and inane). This one kept me guessing until the end!

Into the Lake tells the story of Natalie and Josh, two sweethearts who had met in high school, then reconnected at a high school reunion. As Natalie and Josh prepare for their wedding, Natalie begins to receive threatening messages on her vlog, telling her that Josh is not who he seems. As Natalie looks for the truth, she finds out that all is not what it seems.
This book caught my interest, and had a strong beginning. I loved the idea of two people, divided by years, coming back together to become quick sweethearts and get married. Personally, I felt like the "whodunit" part of it was predictable, but it was nice to be proven right. The motives were not easily guessed, but I found myself looking at one particular person as the overall culprit.
The characters were okay enough, but I found all had their own flaws that made it difficult for me to connect with them. Josh was odd and didn't stand up for himself at all. His step-brother, Toby, was just an awful human being, and I really didn't like him. Gareth, Josh's best friend, also wasn't easily related to. Overall, the characters were lacking that punch that really made you LOVE them.
Now... the narrator. I felt like the narrator was not good at all. I didn't love him doing the "female" voices, and made much of what Natalie said either whiney or too "damsel in distress" for my tastes. Although there were mostly male characters, I felt like either read it in the "normal" voice, or get a female to narrate Natalie's chapters. His voice just didn't grab me, and probably made an okay book sound much worse.
Thank you to the Author, Publisher and Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting but not really my cup of tea. A mystery thriller crime. What would you do if you return to a reunion and find love with a old school mate. Only to find that they are a murderer. Do you give them another chance. Hear them out? Are you safe? And now he wants to find you? Well written I just personally couldn’t get into the story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Pretty wild book, would read again and recommend but it isnt too original

Natalie is a former model but after an accident left her with scars she turned to social media and became a role model through her blog. When the invite came for her high school reunion she was not going to go but decided to and met Josh who she remembered from school but didn't hang out with. They hit it off and became close and soon became engaged. That is when the stalking and bullying began. First on her blog and then messages about Josh being a murderer. When Josh was younger he tried to save a girl who was drowning but was not able to and has lived with the regret since. This was a story of twists and turns and many triggers so beware. The culprit was unexpected.

I enjoyed the love story between Natalie and Josh and the familial ties that were brought together. The thing that made me not like this audiobook at all was the narrator. It made me almost DNF the book. He wasn’t able to annunciate his voice to sound even remotely like a girl and his male voices all sounded the exact same so it was confusing. The other thing I didn’t really enjoy was it was pretty boring overall.

I enjoyed this thriller. There was definitely a big twist at the end I did not see coming. Some of the characters were superficial, annoying, and unbelievable. But overall it was a great thriller.

I want to preface this review by saying--I was in a bit of an audio book slump when I listened to this.
I had just finished an audio book I was really into (THE HAUNTING OF BRYNN WILDER) and then jumped straight into THE DEATH OF JANE LAWRENCE and could not get into it. IDK if it was the English author, the slower plot or the randomness of the ghosts, but I DNF-ed that one.
So I start playing this because it's on my Netgalley audio shelf and why not.
I had heard no buzz, this was not one I'd seen on IG or really was super invested in. I say all this because I truly believe that affects a review and reaction to a book.
I was completely underwhelmed by this story. The characters were whiney and it felt very forced. Was there a twist? Yes. Was it well executed. Maybe.... Was it an edge of your seat thriller. Not for me at this time. I would suggest reading other review before I mar your judgement, but this was nothing special to me.
