I didn’t like this book, yet I couldn’t stop reading it. It was like being locked in the trunk as your wine aunt attempts to outrun the police in a Toyota Corolla. There’s an epidemic in the rom-com world where authors try to make their female main characters seem quirky and funny, but they miss the mark and end up with a completely over-the-top, intolerable character instead. That’s what happened here. An unsupervised toddler would be less destructive than Olivia, who we’re led to believe is a fully-grown adult and NOT three kindergarteners in a trench coat. ALL THAT BEING SAID. This author is a talented writer - I liked how the story flowed, and the dialogue wasn’t choppy or awkward. This appears to be the author’s debut novel, and I think she’ll have success in the future once she finds her groove.

Olivia Marshall is a mess… but in the most endearing type of way. Her apartment building just burnt down, that she may have accidentally started, and is now staying with her brother and his roommate. Just until she gets a new job and is able to move out. Only she didn’t realize that her brothers roommate is his best friend, and an old crush of hers, Colin Beck.

Colin Beck seems stoic and set in his ways. He views Olivia as a catastrophe but as the weeks progress he starts to view her differently. After a steamy conversation based on a misdial – he discovers that Olivia, “goofy” Olivia is on the other end of the misdialed texts.

So what happens as their personal relationship starts to grow? And what will happen if she finds out that he was “Mr. Wrong Number”? You’ll definitely want to one click this hilarious, endearing, read.

This was a quick, fun, rom-com that I enjoyed. It worked for what it is - definitely predictable but filled with fun banter and fun characters.

Thank you for the chance to read this early.

Olivia Marshall is a mess. After getting dumped by her boyfriend and accidentally burning down her apartment building, she is forced to move back home and slum it on an air mattress in her brother's apartment. Well, not really slum it since the apartment is actually an upscale condo where her brother lives with his best friend and the bane of Olivia's existence, Colin Beck. Olivia's luck may be turning around, though, as she starts up a text flirtation that began as a wrong number. As she and Mr. Wrong Number get flirty, Olivia is also feeling the heat with Colin. Little does she know they are one and the same.

I desperately wanted to love this book. The premise is great and who doesn't love a mistaken identity trope coupled with a brother's best friend trope? It had all the makings of a great rom com! Sadly, I found the chemistry lacking between Olivia and Colin. The characters themselves were slightly too flat for me, with Olivia constantly being described as a klutz and not much else. Colin, too, was one-dimensional and, honestly, boring.

I will say, the banter was witty and the side characters (what we got to see of them) were fantastic.

Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for this earc!

This book was absolutely adorable and exactly what I sounds like from the summary

It’s enemies to lovers, it’s the wrong number, it’s best friend’s little sister. It’s everything you love in a rom com

I liked Olivia who was an absolute mess but also very relatable. After everything going wrong and her boyfriend leaving her, her apartment building burning down and losing her job, she moves in with her brother and his roommate. But she actually starts looking for a job right away and not just being all miserable. And when the first job doesn’t work out she tries again. She may seem like your regular weirdo but she’s actually a lot stronger than you think

Colin is just a little bit of Mr. Darcy for you. From a rich family, good job, amazing home, closer full of suits but he also lets his best friend stay with him. And later his best friend’s little sister as well which shows that he’s not just your average cold hearted suit. He helps Olivia with getting an apartment, gets her a freaking bed *heart eyes*
Should he have told her he was Mr Wrong Number earlier? probably
But in the end he finds the right words and the rest is history.

Absolutely adorable rom com that will steal your heart

Olivia Marshall has always had bad luck, though this time she's lost her job, her boyfriend and her apartment. Her older brother agreed to let her stay at his place while she gets back on her feet but unfortunately this means also living with her brother's best friend, Colin Beck, AKA her nemesis.

When a wrong number text exchange blossoms into a hilarious, entertaining and anonymous relationship, Olivia believes her bad luck might be changing.

Looking for hilarious banter, dual POV, enemies to lovers, hot mess woman/put together man, and forced proximity? Look no further! Mr. Wrong Number is a delightful and sexy rom-com about two vastly different people who, after many years, finally feel a magnetic pull towards each other.

As fan of Better Than The Movies, I was both excited and nervous to read Lynn Painter's adult rom-com debut. Olivia is the literal definition of a chaotic hot mess who doesn't always make the right decisions, while Colin is the complete opposite by the numbers businessman. Their enemies banter felt genuine and comfortable since they've have known each other for years through Olivia's brother, Jack.

The text exchanges were my favourite part and wish they'd gone on a little longer but I was super happy to get POVs from both Olivia and Colin. I appreciated the mature way (somewhat, you gotta have at least one flying fist in a brother's bf trope) Olivia's brother reacted once he found out about them. There are predictable conflicts which do stem mainly from misunderstanding, and personally, I could've done without one of them. The spice in this one has a good balance of open door/closed door while still building slow burn sexual tension.

Pick up Mr. Wrong Number for a fun, opposites attract rom-com filled with sarcastic and sexy banter!

4.5 stars rounded up.

MR. WRONG NUMBER was a true RomCom romp, tropey (chaos/starchy, sunshine/grumpy, brother's best friend, hate-to-love), light, bursting with banter, and supremely playful! I appreciated seeing Olivia find her footing after such a tough season, amid her own self-doubt and the uncharitable view her family and family friends have cultivated about her. Seeing Colin come to admire and want her for exactly who she is, watching Olivia discover there's more to Colin than her brother's snarky teasing best friend, made for a satisfying arc as they unlearned their preconceived notions about each other. Throw in some flirty texting/epistolary romance (omg that adorable moment in the epilogue!!), and this is sure to win the hearts of classic RomCom lovers.

Mr. Wrong Number is a contemporary romance about a woman everyone sees as a disaster, and a man everyone thinks is perfect, finding out if they're any good for each other.

Olivia is either a victim of the world's worst luck, or the idiot her family seems to think she is. Following a blowup of both her personal and professional life, Olivia moves back home, crashing with her brother and his roommate until she gets a job. Unfortunately, she doesn't know that said roommate is one of her least favorite people: Colin Beck, her brother's college roommate and consummate smug asshole. Colin isn't too keen to have Olivia around either, but he's agreed to let her stay for a month.

Things take a turn when Olivia receives a "what are you wearing" text that was certainly not meant for her, and starts corresponding with a witty stranger. She doesn't know her mysterious texter is none other than Colin- with whom she's shared some risqué banter. Colin, meanwhile, has started to notice Olivia in a way he never used to, making him wonder what he was missing about her all along.

I enjoyed a lot of the tropes at work in this book- enemies to lovers, forced proximity, best friend's sibling. The chemistry between the main characters is great and believable, and it hits one of the important notes in an enemies to lovers: the characters need to have been in a bad place with each other, and realistically come to a different understanding in order to get together. I love how their perspective on each other changes from the start to the end of the story. I found the family issues on both sides pretty compelling initially, but I didn't like how they were left hanging without resolution. I also thought that Olivia's career problems needed more purchase in the story, it just seemed like a vehicle for the Big Misunderstanding between the characters rather than organic to the narrative.

Obviously, no book is perfect, but despite the structural problems I had with this one, I really enjoyed reading it! It's a sexy, fun story about two people finding each other despite some internal obstacles.

4 Starts! This was a cute romance from Lynn Painter! The ghosting bit really got me - so cowardly :) But their banter was hilarious and there is something pretty freeing about texting a random # and sharing all your insecurities and stories, knowing/hoping you'll never see this person... until you do.

A cute, fast paced romance.
I'm still so annoyed with our mc because how the heck did she not realize Colin was Mr. Wrong number?
But, I'm also happy for her finally maturing and doing her own thing and realizing how lying gets you caught up fast.
Looking forward to picking up more from this author in the future.

All. The. Stars. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Mr. Wrong Number was the romcom that I needed. I shouldn’t be surprised that I loved it as much as I did given how obsessed I was with Better Than The Movies..but still. I. Was. Obsessed. This book understood me.

Mr. Wrong Number is full of so many of my favorite tropes and references, but the main storyline is this - adorable hot mess Olivia starts up a banter-filled text exchange with a wrong number that ends up being her nemesis (and her brother’s best friend), Colin. At one point there is a hand flex moment and my romance-loving soul left my body.

I cannot say enough about this book. The banter was top notch. The storyline was perfection. The romance was swoonworthy. Colin, man. He was a favorite. I loved every single thing about this romance and it is already a top book for 2022. At one point I screamed at a You’ve Got Mail reference. Then I screamed again when I got to the part where I found out Lynn Painter is writing another romcom, which means I get more banter. The. Banter.

All the stars. Will be throwing it at every person when they ask for a romance rec.

Unfortunately, this was a did not finish for me. The premise had such promise. A You’ve Got Mail via texting with some spice! But, the plot was clunky and the writing was very wooden. The texting conversation was painful to read. No young person texts like that in full sentences and volunteering weird info about themselves. I think Olivia is supposed to be quirky, but she come across as rude and thoughtless in how she treats people (and their stuff). The arguing the two characters did was supposed to lend itself to an enemies to lovers trope, but they were just rude and sarcastic to each other and there was almost no believable chemistry.

This author is becoming one of my favorite authors with every book she puts out. It’s getting to the point where I would anticipate a how-to manual on how to zip a coat because I know it would be witty and smart while giving me all the feels. This author's writing is intoxicating and captivating. She creates a world I never want to leave filled with characters and a love story that will forever live rent free in my mind. The dialogue is well written with comical sarcasm and effortless amazing emotional scenes that grab my heart. This author's writing style is one that I truly appreciate where she changes POV within the chapter getting both characters feeling across in a particular situation. The change is so subtle and simple, but yet completes the story in a way that she is only capable of doing

Olivia is the best kind of mess. Her misadventures are the kind of relatable mishaps that make her more human than a character in a story. I saw parts of myself reflected on these pages and through this character. Colin had me the moment he showed up with his nerdy-sexy style and quiet demeanor. I love how well they both complemented each other while being complete opposites. Their chemistry was never lacking and their cheeky banter had me laughing and swooning at the same time.

This is what a RomCom should be. Fun and entertaining while also showcasing two characters who have a lot of growth and learning to do from one another and within themselves. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this book and I cannot tell you how excited I am for my preorder to get to me soon so I can relive this book all over again. Many, many thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for this ARC.

This was SO good! The blurb kept ALL its promises and delivered even more.
YES to glorious banter texting with a stranger, YES to flirty sexting with a stranger, YES to laugh out loud banter between enemies, YES to hilarious relatably hot mess heroine (neither annoying or irritating, she's just the most endearing klutz), YES to seemingly cold and detached heroes, YES to forced proximity premise, YES to clandestine naps, YES to shared bathrooms and trickling droplets of water on vividly described body parts, YES to confusing feelings between opposites, YES to insanely charged sexual tension moments, YES to not-so-slow slow burns, YES to heartfelt confessions, YES to secret flings, YES to sweet and slow kisses, YES to fast and furious sexing, YES to angsty complications, YES to HEA.

Mr. Wrong Number was a winner on all accounts : fun, heartfelt and SEXAY. So so sexy.
This book is UNPUTDOWNABLE, be warned!

Admittedly, I'm a sure thing about all things epistolary in romance but that doesn't mean I'll enjoy all of them. Here the author did an amazing job layering both characters entanglements, the instant matching humor and personalities of their texting relationship and their much slower awareness of each other sharing a housing situation.
The banter was golden and the overall humor on page was entertaining. I loved loved loved the tiny bit of unrequited feelings filtering through the heroine's POV as much as her genuine reluctancy to find the hero desirable in any way. And of course witnessing her—and him— failing miserably. Olivia and Colin were just inevitable and too good together. Bantering and sexing. Yes, the banging was quality good.

I could have done without the two parts third act conflict though, one was enough, the other was drawn out, both of them were definitely too much.

There's an excerpt for an upcoming story (about Olivia's brother, Jack) that totally hooked me the way Mr. Wrong Number hooked me within a few lines and I'll be miserably counting the days until release day (December 2022!!!).

I love the wrong number trope! Texting banter is my favorite especially when it turns into sexting with the best friend little sister kind of mess. Conflict, conflict I want you! Can't wait for this!

I’m calling it right now. Lynn Painter is going to become a huge name in romcoms. Whether it be YA or adult or both, Painter is going to be a STAR!

I read and devoured Painter’s YA novel Better Than the Movies, so needless to say, I was very excited for Mr. Wrong Number.

The anonymous relationship trope is my number one ultimate favourite romance trope. Having my new favourite author write a book with my forever favourite trope was like a gift from the heavens.

I adored every single thing about this book and its characters. Olivia is the BEST! I love her so much. If you love Hazel from Christina Lauren’s Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating, then you are going to adore Olivia.

All of my fellow romcom lovers are going to want to pick up this adorable story.

I really loved this! I hadn't read the synopsis before diving in so the brothers best friend was a fun reveal for me (albeit obvious). I really enjoyed the back and forth with the characters. Sweet!

Olivia accidentally burned down her apartment building and has to move back home to Idaho crashing with her brother and his roommate. When Olivia receives a random text from a stranger, they start messaging each other and takes Olivia's mind off her ex-boyfriend, lack of a job and disappointing her mom again. She doesn't realize that her mystery texter is her brother's handsome roommate. This reminded me of Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating but I liked this book more. Both of the characters are a bit ditzy and clumsy and both characters end up in relationships with guys who at first are a little embarrassed about being involved with them.

So charming and delightful, a rom-com dream. I couldn't put this one down and read it in one day. Liv and Colin were hilarious, and the preview of Jack's book was also wonderful!

Hilarious, sweet, full of chemistry. I loved the role that Olivia's family played. My only complaint was that I would have loved to see Colin's voice fleshed out a little more. Great tropes, great banter. For fans of Sally Thorne.

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. This book was pure romcom perfection and made my heart grow a few sizes.

I LOVED Olivia, I LOVED Colin. Both characters' voices were very well-developed and I loved how the author provided us with glimpses into both leads' family dynamics. The insight into their family dynamics allowed me to understand the leads' (at time over-sensitive ) reactions to each other, especially when they were in conflict with each other.

Overall, this was just a perfect swoon worthy, steamy (just the right amount for me, not too graphic, not too closed door), laugh out funny romcom read for me. Olivia and Colin's textual chemistry (textistry?) was OFF THE CHARTS. Their (text) banter was SO good - probably the best I have ever read. I became a fan of this author after reading Better Than The Movies but after Mr Wrong Number I consider myself a true stan.

Thank you @netgalley for providing me with an opportunity to read an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
