Book 3 in the Agent Tori Hunter series. An ok read though I didn’t find it as gripping as the others.

Agent Tori Hunter Book #3

Will and Tori are called in to investigate a double murder. The case seems similar to a case twenty-four years ago that Tori's father was investigating. Are the two cases related? Will Tori be able to figure out the connection before more lives are lost, including her own?

I loved the writing! I was intrigued from the first page and couldn't put the book down even though it dealt with hard topics like rape, abduction, and revenge killings that were violent and gruesome. I loved the relationship between Tori and Will and how well they worked together under pressure. They each have specific skills that helps solve the case. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading another Tori Hunter story! I couldn't put it down! A lot of mind-blowing action and suspense. A heck of a thrill ride!

Sometimes the thrill ride is such that you cannot really put into words just how intense the action is! And I say to you, go for it! Give Agent Tori Hunter a chance and she'll grab your attention before you know it.

Thank you #NetGalley for AC!

WOW! Mr Stelljes certainly knows how to start a book off with a gripping bang!! Thrown straight into the deep end (let’s hope you can all swim).

I’ve jumped into this series with book 3, did I feel that I was missing parts from previous books? No, there is just enough information on those parts that filled in the gaps, didn't leave me with questions and wishing I’d started from the beginning.

I flew through this book, I was totally immersed in the events unfolding before my eyes, gripped by the action, pace and characters….. there is also an in depth gore factor (which I love!)

A fabulous read, it also ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so be warned, you will be stalking the author for info on book 4!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I enjoyed book one in this series (somehow missed book two 🤷🏻‍♀️) and the same can be said for this one. It's shaping up to be a solid series. Decent writing. Full of action. Intriguing and likable characters. There really isn't a mystery aspect in this book. You pretty much know who is doing the killing and why from pretty early on. I also found this one to be more graphic than book one (as far as I remember). There are also several instances of rape that could be triggering to some. Really, the only issue I had with this book is the relationship drama between Tori and Will. So much of it isn't necessary and just drags the story down (example the sex scene). I also wasn't a fan of the ending and what pretty much guarantees more relationship drama in the next book. 😒 All in all though, I liked it a lot and look forward to seeing what is up next for these characters!

Always action packed. These stories are like reading the plot for the next action adventure movie.

Following up on Tori and Braddock, I found this story to be a bit heavier on their lives and their blossoming relationship more so than the plot of the murders and police work. Like the focus of the story was on their story, rather than the current crime.

Had back story to allow you to know about previous books without actually going into too much detail at all.

The crime was good and Complex. I was wondering if hey were going to connect the dots and find the men responsible when there seemed to be no evidence anywhere.

Lots of differing perspectives is both good, and bad. Sometimes too much and too jumpy and I puns that took away from the intense action filled moments.

Tori and Will are called to the scene of a double homicide. A man and his wife have been murdered in their isolated house in the woods. Their daughter, Cara, got home just as the murderers were leaving. She is the lone witness helping the detectives to solve the case. The case takes a complex turn when its linked to a double homicide that occurred 24 years ago. The killer in this murder was arrested. This leaves the detectives wondering whether there is a copy cat killer, is the right person in jail or is the jailed murderer pulling strings behind bars?

I like Tori and Will. I’ve never been a fan of romance but this is one relationship that I like and I am rooting for. I like how the two relate and the fact that their relationship doesn’t hinder their work as detectives in any way.

This was a very rough case. The nature of the crimes was quite shocking. The rate of escalation was fast and terrifying. Even more chilling is the fact that the villain(s) was also a narrator so readers had a front row seat to their dark, twisted minds.

This wasn’t a case where you can guess the identity of the villain. Yes, we had chapters narrated by the unsub. However, nicknames were used making it hard to guess the identity of the narrator. In addition, it was so hard to guess the motives or the links to the old case. Basically, I had no suspects at all and couldn’t guess what was going on and why, until the detectives did. This made it a very captivating read for me.

Masterfully written, well-crafted characters and a solid, gripping storyline certainly made this a great read. I look forward to the next installment in the series.

TRIGGER WARNING: this book contains multiple rapes and murders
Former FBI agent Tori Hunter is adjusting to life back in her hometown when a double homicide leads her to question her career, home and family history. But the murders have only just begun...
The Hidden Girl is a gripping and intense crime thriller. It is the third book in the series but the first that I have read. There are some details about Tori's past which relate to a previous case presumably in one of the previous books. However, there was no specific detail that would act as a spoiler. I intend to catch up on the first two books as soon as possible!
The plot and action spring straight into action and is relentless! But in a good way :) The book is written in the third person and includes some perspectives of the perpetrators which ramps up the tension. There are also sections from 24 years ago to give context to events in the present. The detail of the rapes and murders is unpleasant but I didn't find the detail overly graphic.
I loved the character of Tori and her relationship with Braddock. She has been through significant change over the last year and this book brings the past into sharp focus. She has experience of being a victim and this allows her to connect with those she is interviewing and adds an emotional level to the plot.
The Hidden Girl had me hooked from the first page to the last and the romance ends in a cliffhanger so I will be checking out the next book when it is published!

This was fine. I didn't really care for the non-crime relationship stuff, so that took me out of it. I'm obviously in the minority here, though.

The third instalment in the series, The hidden girl brings a new suspenseful story in the life of Tori and Braddock.

It all starts with a bang and a quite descriptive scene when the murders are taking place and the Cara, the daughter of the murdered couple, is arriving at her parents’ house in the exact moment when she is witnessing the horrific tragedy. Luckily she escapes and after hours hidden away deep into the woods, she called the police and the investigation starts.

There are many moments when I stopped and reread parts of the story as the scenes were really captivating and I wanted to make sure that what I’m reading I actually read! (if that makes sense) As the twists and turns come to life bit by bit, the story moves on and what I really enjoyed was to actually having the murderer’s voice in some chapters. It really made everything flow more smoothly and putting the pieces together quickly.

Another must read story!

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy.

This book had me all tied up in knots. The killings of these seemingly random people had me biting my nails down to the quick. But there was so much happening in Tori and Braddock's personal life, and that was what really got me invested. I was mad at Braddock for the way he dealt with the past. I was mad at Tori for the way she reacted like a child. And the ending did nothing to ease my nerves. Great writing, great characters, definitely a must read series.

Overall, I loved this story. I'm a big fan of the series and I love Hunter & Braddock, and with this installment in particular I loved the complexity of the case and the tie ins to things going on when Hunter's dad was the Sherriff. All good.

However, I will say that I did have a pretty strong reaction to the violence in this book. I'm a true crime fan and an avid murder mystery thriller reader BUT to open the book with an extremely violent double murder was enough to turn my stomach. Again, I love true crime and murder mysteries but as a 35 year old married person this graphic torture was too much for me. Possible it's because the world is so depressing right now, but that just wasn't want I was looking for in a book. If I was just browsing a book store I wouldn't have bought it based on the first chapter.

But graphic violence aside, this book was awesome. Stelljes knows how to build great characters and good stories and I'm excited to see what's new for Tori and Braddock!

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Things are not what they seem and will have you guessing until the end. A string of mysteriously violent murders in isolated areas of a town start to raise awareness but also confusion - why are these individuals being targeted? One girl, the daughter of the first couple murderer, happens to escape alive and as a witness is the only hope to finding the killers - before they strike again. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A tense, high-octane, action-packed, procedural thriller that was in equal parts gruesome and gripping.

When Agent Tori Hunter and Chief Detective Braddock are called to the crime scene of a brutal double homicide, it invokes memories of a similar crime from twenty-four years ago when Tori's father, Jim was the Sheriff. With the only witness unable to provide any solid identification and the culprit for the original crime having died while in prison, Tori, Braddock and their team are in a race against time to catch the killers as the body count rises.

I love a good cop procedural drama, be it on TV or in a book. And 'The Hidden Girl, with its excellent protagonists and chilling storyline with a nail-biting climax was simply superb. The narrative flits between the past and the present, tying the two crimes together. While the suspense factor was high, the gory description of the murders may seem disturbing to those who have a weak stomach for violence (yours truly, for example). While the killer is eventually caught, the story did end on a cliffhanger for Tori and Braddock's relationship. Can't wait for the next book to read more on that.

Overall, a totally engrossing crime thriller. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

With a gut-punching opening, The Hidden Girl gets you right into the action. Focusing on a chilling series of crimes, it’s a fast-paced and intriguing story with plenty of thrills.

The characters are brilliantly dynamic. A big fan of Roger Stelljes’ Tori Hunter series, I’ve grown to love these characters over the past year or so. I’ve always liked Tori and have looked forward to seeing her relationship develop with Braddock. And with The Hidden Girl taking a glance into the past, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see Tori’s father at work and get a better sense of her upbringing.

However, I do think that you need to be a fan of the series to really enjoy this book. While it does give a good summary of the previous two books, it does rely on the connections you have made to the characters.

While it’s a great instalment in a series that I get excited to keep up with, The Hidden Girl just isn’t as gripping as the first two books were so I would definitely recommend that you go back and read those first. Nevertheless, this is a brilliant detective series to get into, so they are well worth checking out.
