This was a very readable story! I love a thriller, but I also really love a survival story, so when you mix those together, it's a win! And that is exactly what we have in Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets. Savannah, at the start, isn't all that likable, frankly. I was annoyed that her main reason for trying to figure out what happened to Piper was to absolve herself of guilt. Which, ma'am, this isn't about you, right?

Well, she does exhibit some growth during the story, which is good. And I did genuinely want to know what happened to Piper, because I agreed with Savannah that this was not a suicide attempt. Anyway, Savannah ends up joining Wilderness Club to follow the clues. Sidenote: why exactly do schools have "Wilderness Club"? Actually do schools have such a thing? They really should skip it if so, sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, even if no one in the group is particularly murdery. I digress.

This was certainly an entertaining story, and very fast moving as Savannah not only has to solve this whodunit, but also watch out for her own self. I loved the complex relationships that were featured, too, as I thought it gave the book a good balance between action and character-driven parts. Overall, a quick and readable win!

Bottom Line: Don't join Wilderness Club, I think?

Honestly, this had a lot of potential but I found the execution to be lacking.

To keep it simple, the writing style was very childish and juvenile. I know it is supposed to be YA, but this was very juvenile, in my opinion.

The main character is hard to connect with and I honestly didn't like her at all, she was very frustrating, and overall when the big mystery was revealed, it just felt very unclimatic. I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would.

Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets by Chelsea Ichaso is a YA thriller that had me gripped from the very first page. Unlike many YA thrillers, and indeed quite a few adult ones, this one kept me guessing to the very end with plenty of twists and turns and more than a few red herrings to distract the reader.
The premise of the book seems simple, the sister of a girl who is in a coma following a suspicious hiking accident sets out to investigate what really happened and who has a reason for wanting to silence her and what was she poking her nose into that got her into trouble. From the outset it is clear that Savannah, our narrator, has secrets of her own to hide, and her relationship with her sister might be a little more fraught than most. We see most of the other characters from Savannah's perspective , though we do also get occasional flash back chapters from her sister Piper's point of view, and these gradually reveal the truth about what happened. While the cast of characters is not excessively large, there are enough complexities in their relationships with one another that keeping track of it all was a little challenging at times.
One of the most engaging thrillers I have read in a while.

Things are simple with this book...
The premise is really nice and intriguing, but the execution was lacking.
I totally get that this is a YA book about teenagers trying to solve a mystery but I don't think the writing had to be so juvenile.
I not only couldn't connect with the MC but also I couldn't feel any world-building at all.
It is not the worst book and it wasn't a DNF for me, however, I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected while picking it up.

P.s the resolution of this mystery is so anti-climatic that I suffered a bit through it.

This was so good. It was full of twists and turns and at one point I thought I had it all figured out but I was wrong. 10/10 recommend.

This is your typical YA thriller/mystery.

The chapters were quick and short making it easy to read. There were also lots of twists & turns, often what I thought would happen was wrong, and this kept me wanting to read to find out more. However, some parts were very predictable.

I wasn’t a big fan of the main character, Savannah, and she kind of annoyed me because she kept making dumb choices and assumptions lol.

Overall, it was generally a little underwhelming, especially with the big reveal. I just wanted more from the book, like more info on everyone’s relationships and their connections and more about Piper.

I think if I was younger, I would have enjoyed this a lot more, but it wasn’t anything special for me.

Piper has been in a coma ever since she fell off a cliff during a hiking accident but her sister Savannah isn't so sure it was an accident at all. So she joins the Survival Club that Piper was a part of to discover what secrets the members of the Survival Club are trying to hide from her about that tragic day.

To begin with I had no idea this YA mystery would be an unputdownable, absolutely addictive read with an equal focus on teenage drama and mystery. It is mostly narrated from Savannah's PoV with a few chapters narrated by Piper with a past timeline. I would however have liked more chapters from Piper since they would have definitely added more to the mystery element.

I was a bit confused with the characters whom I would not call unreliable but they were more like inconsistent personalities and dynamics between them were constantly changing. So each one ended up as a suspect on Savannah's list at some point in the story. The final reveal did take me by surprise.

Chelsea Ichaso is a new to me author and I enjoyed her writing style. Overall, Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets is a fast paced mystery that can be read in one sitting and I recommend it if you liked One of Us is Lying.

First off, the title immediately caught my attention because it reminded me of Pretty Little Liars!

This was a fun and quick read that had me guessing until the very end. While the short chapters had twists and turns throughout, I did feel like the book dragged on in the middle. Initially, it felt like there were too many characters introduced to keep track of. I didn’t love the main character, Savannah, because she was snarky and selfish at times and it was hard for me to sympathize with her. Each character seemed to hide a secret of their own, and I felt like at one point Savannah was throwing accusation after accusation without thinking of how to approach the situation first. I liked how there were chapters with Piper’s POV since most of the book focused on what other people thought of her, so it gave the reader a chance to get a better feel of what she was thinking. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed and think a few more chapters, especially with Piper’s POV after she wakes up, would have wrapped up the loose ends. By the end of the book, Savannah had some good character development and was more likeable.

Overall, this is a great read if you’re looking for a fast-paced YA mystery with lots of drama and juicy secrets!

Back in 2020, I read a book called Little Creeping Things by Chelsea Ichaso and I loved it. Imagine my joy when I saw her next book come across my screen. I was so quick to snatch it up and I was absolutely not disappointed.

Dead Girls Can’t Tell Secrets follows the story of Savannah and she tries to find out who put her sister in a coma in the hospital from a “fall” off a cliff. Savannah is determined and everyone is a suspect. Seriously. Everyone. I questioned every single person in this story at least twice while reading it. And I read it in two days, in two sessions. Savannah’s personality is very much like my own. She gets an idea in her head and nobody, no matter how important to her, is going to talk her out of this idea that her sister’s accident wasn’t actually an accident. She puts herself in situations that are far from her norm just to get close to people to solve the crime and I feel this is something very on point with my personality. She’s a strong willed and slightly fearless individual. I would definitely not have wandered off into the woods alone chasing someone who may or may not be a murdered. Seems like a bad idea.

I’m a suspicious person by nature, but every person in this story acted suspect at one time or another. I was not a great fan of Grant and he seemed a bit condescending at times. Noah and Jacey were kind of childish and rude, although I grew to like Jacey a bit more. Surprisingly I really loved Alex, even on first meeting. I was a little suspicious at first, but quickly shut that one down. He had a great personality and I love how you automatically think one thing of him because of his appearance, but really he’s this really nice kid it seems.

Ichaso did a great job of picking a scary setting. There is nothing more terrifying than being hours into the woods with only those around you for help, especially when you trust none of them. I read another book recently with a similar setting and I feel like it intensifies the suspense because something or someone could jump out at every moment and there are a million places to hide. It really moved the suspense up a peg in this book. I also loved how Ichaso gave little tidbits of information, but nothing seemed to fit together until suddenly one piece clicked into place and the rest just avalanched into their place after. I believe I said “Whaaaaaaaat?” out loud. And the ending made me happy!

I’m a big fan of Ichaso and she is quickly becoming my favorite YA/Mystery writer. Her novels are spot on and full of suspense that keeps you flipping pages faster than you can finish the last sentence on each page. Another jam-packed, suspense filled thriller for all ages.

A little disappointing read overall because 1) circling back to the first suspect was frustrating 2) mostly it felt like being sent on a wild goose chase - contributing to these factors, it makes the book a very likely dnf by some readers.

Okay I’m not even going to lie I was approved to read this book awhile ago, I literally read it last night in one sitting completely forgetting this was an ARC. Can I just say I fell in love with this story, the characters, the plot, everything about this book. It made me cry & love in some places about the idiocy of the characters in some parts. Along with the main characters growth throughout the book. I loved the mystery aspect can I say u did not expect that.

Piper has a hiking accident and has been in a coma ever since. But, her older sister Savannah didn't believe that it was just a mere accident. Her theory was confirmed when she found a suspicious note in Piper's locker. Savannah decided to join the hiking club to discover what really happen that day and find out who is keeping secrets from the truth.

This book is intriguing at first filled with lots of twists. The short chapters makes you keep flipping the pages to know what clue will show up next.
All the characters are not perfect, in fact they are flawed. They make mistakes and have secrets of their own which makes deciding whose the culprit was difficult at first.

However, I feel slightly annoyed with Savannah because I didn't agree with some of the choices she made in the story. She didn't think things thoroughly which frustrated me a bit. Nevertheless, I like how her character develop and become better in the end.

I would have given this a higher rating if it wasn't for the ending. There's a couple of loose ends and I didn't agree with how things got wrapped up for the culprit. In fact, I feel annoyed about it.
I also wish there's more of Piper's POV so the readers can know about Piper rather than from her sister's POV.

Other than the ending, I actually have a good time making theories and guessing which one of them done it.
Overall, it's a pretty good read, a thrilling fast paced YA mystery thriller.

The book cover and Tyler was where most of my points went! This book started out great as Savannah being very guilty about what had happened to her sister and finding a note of someone threatening Piper to meet her at the place where she supposedly committed "suicide". But did she?! Savannah is not so sure anymore and she is determined to find out who and why that person wanted Piper out.

It started out as I had hoped but then throughout the middle of the story, I was just annoyed at Savannah as we find out more and more about her and Piper, There was a point that I wanted to close the book and be finished because all that was happening was S accusing everyone that they were the culprit who wanted Piper gone until that person's secret came out and lo and behold they were not there with Piper at that moment in time. I kept on reading because I really wanted to know who it was and why and the story picked up again at the end, but wow! I was not expecting who it was at all because i never suspected them! Once S found out who it was, it was pretty anticlimactic ...I felt like it kinda fell flat once we knew who it was and there was no dramatics, The epilogue was a nice and hopeful ending to this story.

Savannah's sister Piper fell from Vanderwild Point and is in a coma. Savannah finds a note that her sister had a Survival Club meeting at the same place, on the day of the 'accident'. She joins the club so she can investigate. Everyone in the club is a suspect, with their own secrets, and Savannah is hiding something too.

A narrative full of intrigue from the get-go, tinged with the guilt Savannah carries. Guilt that has to do with her sister and her determination to find out the truth about that day. Atonement, concern and self-preservation war with each other. You find yourself rooting for the protagonist to solve the mystery, even though she doesn't seem to be the best person. The writing makes you feel like you're along for the ride.

The story is grounded, without the protagonist suddenly turning into a super sleuth. On the contrary, she makes as many bad moves as good ones. Some of those bad moves are repetitive and it does get irritating, as does the fact that the protagonist cannot seem to talk when she shouldn't. Then the story shifts gears and I'm hooked again. The path from now on is pleasantly unexpected.

Is redemption possible constitutes a question that hovers in your mind as you read this. Sibling relationships are hard to navigate and that is explored here.

"You never really know people the way you think you do" and truer words could not have been uttered than this quote from the book to characterize this story.

This was such a slog to get through and so dull despite being just 200 pages long. I kept reading because I wanted to know whodunit but it ultimately didn't deliver at all despite its potential.

The storytelling is weak while the character development is non-existent. The protagonist is also an all-round terrible person, sister and friend. Every time I thought there was a tense moment, the story would flatline almost immediately. To top things off, you get a very bland reveal and conclusion.

This is one of the most unremarkable YA thrillers I've ever read. The only noteworthy thing is the beautiful cover. There are a few reviews describing this book as "basic" and I can't think of a better word because basic is exactly it.

I found this story a bit slow to start with and it took me a while to actually feel like I wanted to know what happened. But by about 30% I was hooked and keen to know what happened to Piper. Piper is assumed to have jumped from suicide point and now lies in a coma. Savannah, Piper's sister, finds a note in Piper's locker and which confirms to her it wasn't a suicide attempt. She is determined to get to the bottom of what happened to Piper. The majority of the story takes place on a survival club camp. We get to know the members of the club, which consist of Savannah's boyfriend, Piper's best friend and Piper's boyfriend, a boy from another school and a few other classmates of Piper. Everyone is keeping secrets and many feel guilty about what happened to Piper, even the teacher is a suspect. There were some chapeters from Piper's point of view leading up to the fall - which I enjoyed. They added a bit more context and suspense.
There were some twists and turns but the final reveal was a little anticlimactic

I am unable to give a proper review as I ended up not finishing Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets after a few chapters in. I could not get into the story. It began as a very basic YA mystery. It did not draw me in with the writing style, so I ended up putting it down to start on a different ARC I received from NetGalley. I would still recommend this book to students though because I believe that certain students of mine could get into it! I hope that the kids / adults who would enjoy this book find it and read it.

This book sucks you in quickly because it jumps right in which I appreciated. There is a good casts of characters providing for many possible suspects. I spent a good amount of time thinking I knew exactly who was responsible and was shocked when I was wrong because it was a reach. Savannah really irked me though - she made a ton of bad and impulsive decisions but I guess that’s what teenagers do. Overall, I think this was too YA for me but others will find it enjoyable.

Piper Sullivan is in a coma after falling from Vanderwild Point, otherwise known by locals as “Suicide Point.” Everyone believes she tried to commit suicide, including her sister, Savannah. Savannah was horrible to Piper just before the fall. When a few things start to not add up, Savannah believes that not only is it not her fault Piper fell, but it wasn’t a suicide attempt. It was a murder attempt.

Savannah starts putting herself in Piper’s shoes. She’s perfect, smart, popular. Everything Savannah is not. While she starts to uncover more and more clues about Piper’s life, she realizes she doesn’t know her sister at all.

This book was alright, but I feel like I’ve read it before. It was suspenseful enough, but after a while, I got tired of Savannah accusing everyone and yelling at everyone that she knew, without a doubt, they were the ones who tried to kill Piper.

I was pulled back in by the ending, though. It was not at all what I expected, and I don’t think I would have ever predicted that ending. Overall, it was a fun book that I would recommend to people new to the thriller/horror genre.

This book honestly hooked me from page one and I ended up flying through it pretty fast. I wasn't sure what to expect but it's a good amount of mystery that kept me hooked all the way through the book. I definitely recommend reading this book.
