Charming Texas Cowboy is the third title in the Big Chance Dog Rescue series, but you “could” read it as a standalone if this is your first introduction to the series since it is a rather contained story with any characters from the earlier books quickly and easily explained within the narrative or dialogue – it might even tempt you to go back to the very beginning of the series which I highly recommend.

Tanner works at the Dog Rescue, and while he might not be a trainer, keeping the books straight gives him a purpose, while his unique and adorable support dog, Trixie, keeps him on his toes and centered when memories overload him and mistakes from the past (not always his own) haunt him in the darkest hours. Frankly, I adored Trixie and think this amazing pup had some of the best scene-stealing moments I’ve come across recently. Tanner is a complex and complicated man, one who has endured more than most do in a lifetime, and is still struggling with the pain from his many surgeries and PTSD from his time in the military. He’s certainly not a quitter, but he doesn’t really see his own worth, especially when it comes to his attraction to the newest member of the neighborhood and her escape artist goat.

Jen is reinventing herself as a solo YouTuber, showing her audience how to homestead from start to finish. It’s a solitary endeavor, one that was absolutely necessary when the show she co-starred in with her mother took a nosedive when an outsider came on board to make all the wrong decisions for them. She might have flaunted his unworthiness (and a whole lot more) on that final show, but she wasn’t sorry and would recreate her own version of DIY homesteading with pride (and not a few miscalculations). She would have been fine if her goat hadn’t escaped, a handsome cowboy scared the life out of her while his dog charmed her… and if so many things hadn’t started to go unexpectedly wrong, and those pranks, those setbacks were escalating fast.

I enjoyed Charming Texas Cowboy very much. Tanner and Jen worked well as a cautious couple, slowly letting their attraction grow in the midst of all that was happening to Jen and her homestead. They each are wounded souls in so many ways, and that fact made the pace of their romance make more sense to me. There is a mystery to solve, danger involved, as well as a couple finding faith in themselves, trust in one another, and a chance for lifelong love should they risk their hearts.

Another wonderful angst addition to this series! I really enjoy this author and her depths to character! This one really gets you in the feels with a side of cute animals! I loved Jen and Tanners dynamic. They both had to work toward that fine line between friendship/lovers/trusting! Jen is our heroine who comes to a small town in the country trying to prove herself! Tanner is a scarred vet hero. These two start with a fun meet cute and a friendship blooms! While these two had a lot to get to make it to their HEA, it was worth it! Absolutely wonderful! Look forward to what’s next from this author!

4.5 stars. I greatly enjoyed this book that brought many elements to the table. Humour, suspense, love, heat, and friendship all played a part in this well balanced story. Both main characters had great characteristics, as well as some baggage to unpack. Overall, a very enjoyable story.

Charming Texas Cowboy by Teri Anne Stanley was an excellent book. Although it is the third book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone book. The main characters were well developed and the storyline was well written. It was a terrific story that I recommend.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this book!
I loved the funny, quirky characters and the homemade homestead vibes.
There were some tough, heartbreaking parts and some very funny antics.
I think Jen has to be one of my favourite characters for some time, she is so innocent, and her internal voice is hilarious. Jen is a brilliant character and I loved her and Tanner together. Their chemistry is unreal .

I hope there will be more visits to Big Chance dog rescue.

Charming Texas Cowboy is the third book in this series but it could be read as a standalone like I did, but now I want to read the previous books because I'm curious about the other couples and I was enthralled by Teri Anne Stanley writing.

Jen leaves her youtube show because she doesn't like the new director's choices, she gets to Chance County to show herself she can do it on her own, and to show her audience how to make a homestead. Tanner is a wounded veteran, he has some physical wounds and some soul wounds that still hurt. He works as accountant at the Big Chance Dog Rescue with other veterans and their service dogs. They meet coincidentally thanks to a goat and that is the begin of a beautiful friendship.

I liked the main characters, they were well developped, it was easy to fall in love with and to cheer for them to get their happily ever after. Their past is painful and not solved but I was glad to see them helping each other, sharing their pain and to start changing in order to get a better and brighter future.

This was a wonderful story, I definitely recommend you give it a try.

A sweet cowboy ex-military romance. A story that warms your heart and puts a smile on your face. But it also has a little bit of family drama, suspense, and hot cowboys. Likable easy-going read about the broken soul and how can it be healed with a little bit of love and fur.

This is a Cowboy Romance, and this is the third book in the Big Chance Dog Rescue series. I love that this is not the normal cute fun romance, but this is a romance about two flawed people finding each other. I also love that there is a small mystery going on in the background. I guessed the mystery for the beginning, but I still loved how it was revealed. I love that there was a good mix of overcoming, suspense, mystery, and romance in this book. I loved the ending so much. The characters where great and very developed. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Sourcebooks Casablanca) or author (Teri Anne Stanley) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Charming Texas Cowboy by Teri Anne Stanley is not the first in the Big Chance Dog Rescue series but is the first I have read by this author. It certainly grabs your attention from the first holding it until the very end. I am not sure who I loved the most, the human characters or the four legged ones. Of course I never believed that Tanner was as bad as he believed himself to be. Guilt, shame, and regrets can wreck a person’s self-image. It has done that with Tanner. On the other hand, Jen Green has no real idea of how to be a real homesteader. In fact, her ideas are so naive as she continues to try to make “reality videos” as she goes about her new venture. Thank goodness she went to Texas and not Alaska.

From humorous to serious in a bat of an eye this is an entertaining read. I recommend Charming Texas Cowboy by Teri Anne Stanley to all romance fans especially those who love a charming if too serious cowboy.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Charming Texas Cowboy by Teri Anne Stanley finds Jennifer, finally tired of their cameraman, Brock's, manipulative ways, taking off to find her independence. She had bought a small property in Texas, seen only on Google Earth, to discover it was not quite what she had though. It was, however, better than the clip that was going viral of her opening her shirt and declaring her breasts more than adequate. That had been the last straw. She cleaned the camper shell and bought a goat. She was ready to begin. Only that darned goat, Angus had escaped, and found itself tangled in a mass of brambles. As Jen tried to extricate him, a monster of some sort snuck up on her: a chupacabra? No, it turned out to be a man carrying a small dog and offering to help, kind of. Thus started her "relationship: with one hot cowboy named Tanner and his dog, Trixie. They came from the dog rescue town the road and he was a wounded veteran, having been badly burned overseas. He had PTSD and his self-esteem was as low as it could get. He blamed himself for everything he knew he had done and for some things he wasn't even close to.

Jen was determined but she might have bitten off more than she could chew. She needed help and Tanner was right there, off and on. He was more than capable of giving the help she needed and also had some great ideas. One night things got out of hand and Tanner had to draw back. He was not good enough for her and could not give her what she needed. Don't you love men who make decisions for you? She was hurt but tried to remember she was looking for independence, so she dug in her heels and went to work. Something was off but she couldn't figure out what it was, until she did. This was a reluctant suitor love story and the suitor had serious baggage. It was addressed well in this book and brought awareness to the reader. The plot was good, although not hard to figure out who was causing the strange things to happen. Jen was smart, and she was independent. Independent does not mean she didn't want someone to love. She and Tanner were both characters fully rounded and well written. Not all heroines are YouTube stars but otherwise, this is a totally realistic story. I loved it!

This book made me laugh out loud, mutter cross words and grin foolishly for a long time after I finished reading the last page. Tanner, an Army veteran, believed he was unworthy of love due to his past mistakes. He didn’t see what others saw…. a courageous man who didn’t need the redemption he was seeking. Working at the Big Chance Dog Rescue had given him a purpose rather than just exiting like he had been doing after leaving the hospital. PTSD, missing memories and his multitude of physical scars had made him wary of forming relationships, but one very feisty, determined and irreverent woman pushed at the guards he had erected around his emotions. Jennifer (Jen) came to Big Chance, Texas to start her own homestead and a business of her own. For the first time, she wouldn’t be paired with her mother and would be doing things herself. It was her time to prove to herself and everyone else that could do well on her own, make her own way. Her runaway goat led to her first meeting with Tanner who she mistook for some mythical beast who ate goats. Fate and some unusual animal escape artists kept bringing Tanner and Jen together. When his colleagues suggested he could help her make her homestead more secure, he was unable to stay away. Quirky, impulsive and very attractive Jen lit something up inside him, and not just his libido. Neither knew their hearts would become involved or that someone was determined that Jen would not be successful in her new endeavour. I won’t spoil the enjoyment of this book by revealing anything more. I am sure that these fascinating and very relatable characters will draw more readers into their captivating and very entertaining story, just like they did me.

I received an ARC via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Contemporary Romance

Big Chance, Texas – Present Day

After becoming famous in social media and on a reality television show, Jen Greene has abandoned that career to start out on her own by buying a working ranch. Yes, it needs a lot of work, but Jen isn’t afraid of that. But the menagerie of animals she’s collected prove to be a handful, especially when one of her goats escapes from the pen. Ex-military turned dog rescuer Tanner Beauchamp is riding in his truck one day with his dog, Trixie, when the dog suddenly starts barking. Stopping to investigate, they discover a goat tangled in the briar patch. Soon, its owner, Jen, arrives. Tanner is a hard worker and, after seeing what Jen is trying to do with her ranch, offers to help her.

Tanner isn’t looking to bed Jen, though he must admit she’s mighty pretty. She is also stubborn in wanting to remain independent in running her ranch even though it will take a massive amount of work to do so. Tanner offers to help her, especially as her animals seem to always get out and she needs enclosures built. But after some mysterious acts happen that threaten Jen’s plans for the ranch, they can’t help but wonder if someone is trying to deliberately sabotage her. Is it related to the fact that her former business manager wants her to abandon her plans?

Jen is like a fish out of water in the truly fun CHARMING TEXAS COWBOY by Teri Anne Stanley. Jen and her mother, Joanie, made a name for themselves in online videos that went viral with their downhome appeal. But Jen doesn’t care for their manager, Brock, who is a domineering pompous jerk. After an embarrassing incident that went viral, Jen decides to embark on her own. She doesn’t know much about being a rancher, but she’s certainly not afraid to try. At first, Jen refuses Tanner’s help, but he does prove to be handy in helping her because of his expertise. Tanner has duties at the dog rescue ranch where he works but can spend plenty of time helping Jen. Of course, being around her is a big plus.

But Jen’s livelihood at the ranch is in jeopardy after mysterious things happen, like coming home and discovering the animal gates are open despite the fact that she knows they were closed and locked before she left. After an order of baby chicks disappears and then ends up dumped in her yard, Tanner decides to step in and help protect Jen. To me as a reader, I wasn’t too surprised to learn who was responsible. In CHARMING TEXAS COWBOY, we get to enjoy the discovery of it all because it leads Tanner to Jen. But is Tanner ready for a big commitment? He suffers from PTSD and refuses to delve deep into resolving the issues that caused it. Will Jen help him? Will they find love and a happily-ever-after?

A fun and entertaining romance with plenty of chuckles that will make CHARMING TEXAS COWBOY a book you won’t want to put down.

Charming Texas Cowboy by Teri Anne Stanley is the third book in her Big Chance Dog Rescue series, and, as is my usual, it's the first book in the series I've read, and the first book I've read by this author, although at no time was I lost among all new-to-me characters, and while it had an overabundance of goat, sheep and dog escapes, which were cute at first, there were simply too many of them. I was left trying to decide whether or not this was a romantic comedy or a more serious wounded warrior story and for that reason and others I could not give this novel more than 3 stars.

While I liked the main characters, Jen and Tanner, I had an issue with Jen's mother, Joanie, who bedhopped with too many losers while Jen was growing up, and is now hooking up with Brock, the producer and director of their indie TV show and who Jen hates, and, who was the reason Jen quit working on the show and why she bought a run down trailer on a small piece of land she planned to homestead and turn that into her own solo internet show. Yet she really didn't have the nerve to convince her mother that he was bad news--and, as it turns out he was even worse news than Jen could have even imagined.

I did like the attracti0n between Jen and wounded warrior, Tanner, but I couldn't help but wonder why he ran between hot and cold where Jen was concerned since she was obviously attracted to him, and he was equally attracted to her, She didn't even bat an eye at his scars, and his PTSD didn't seem to bother her either, although she certainly understood it and empathized, but why on earth wasn't he seeing a psychiatrist for his flashbacks and nightmares?

When the action finally heats up near the end of this novel, the perpetrator behind some of Jen's problems--her missing animals, the unknown person who picked up her new chicks at the post office, poisoned her garden, and let her animals loose, was no surprise, and there's the expected HEA ending, of course.

While Ms. Stanley exhibited good writing skills, this story just didn't work for me on any level, even though I love the wounded warrior trope, and I cannot recommend it. I would have much preferred that she focus on Tanner and his issues, rather than going for the comedy of Jen trying her hand at homesteading.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Tanner is doing the accounting books for the Big Chance Dog Rescue. He feels like he has always been a screw-up and is recovering from the burns he received while in Afghanistan. Jen Green has been working with her mother Joanie on a YouTube show for years. The new producer/director is an idiot and Jen is tired of his cutting corners and her mother letting him. She walks off the show rather dramatically.

She buys a farm down the road from the rescue ranch. Tanner is out for a run with Trixie a failure at being trained dog. Trixie stops when she hears something in the bushes. Jen is out looking for her goat and almost runs over Tanner. They get the goat out of the thorn bushes, and he goes back to her farm to help secure the pen. Tanner gives Jen ideas for her farm and animals. He returns to help with the fence problems. Jen adds sheep, rabbits, big turtle and chickens to her farm.

It seems that Trixie is really good at corralling the animals and keeping them out of the road when they get out. Some strange happen at the farm and Tanner starts spending more time with Jen for protection.

Overall I really enjoyed this book better than the first 2 in the series.

So enjoyed this very readable story with really likeable characters. The story flowed well and was easy to follow. The story centred around Jen who is making a new life for her self in Chance County, Texas and Tanner a handsome cowboy army veteran who is working at the Big Chance Dog Rescue which is the ranch next door. Romance, friendship and determination were covered. Loved the fact that the animals played a big part in the story too!

Charming Texas Cowboy by Teri Anne Stanley is the third book in her Big Chance Dog Rescue series. This series is one my favorites and this latest book is a super addition to the series. I love the characters, especially Jen and Tanner. The way they first meet in the beginning of the book was quite entertaining. It was great to again see the characters from the earlier books. They had just the right amount of interaction in this story. I do think that Trixie the dog was the real star of the show. I love Ms. Stanley's writing style. Her humor has me chuckling as I read and her sensual scenes are great. I have to say though that one of the best humorous parts of the story was the response of the 911 call center operator at the end of the book. Dairy Queen!

An addictive feel-good romance! Teri Anne Stanley delivers the feels in CHARMING TEXAS COWBOY, the third book in her always adorable Big Chance Dog Rescue series. Tanner has been intriguing throughout the series and getting to know his background and watch him fall in love was heartwarming.

The main characters are both a bit emotionally raw at the time they stumble across each other and watching them connect in such a touching way sets the stage for friendship and camaraderie while passion softly grows.

I recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a story about veterans finding a rewarding outlet of healing after coming home while dipping into the sweetness of a dog rescue.
