A big thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book (novella). This is part of a multi author series at the same location Widow's Island. This reads well as a stand alone and is relatively short (novella). It may be easier if you have read one of the other books as then you would know the characters. Cate is an ex FBI agent, and gets drawn back into one of her old unsolved cases. An interesting mystery. 3.5

A New Perspective….
The eighth installment of the Widow’s Island series of novellas finds former FBI agent Cate back in the action once again when she seeks a new perspective on a cold case. Fast moving storyline, twists aplenty and a cast of credible and colourful characters make for a good, short, sharp read.

It’s always good to return to Widow’s Island. This series for me is like watching one of your favourite tv shows. Cat is a former FBI Agent who left after a tragedy. She returned home and owns a bakery and bookstore, but every now & again her past comes knocking. She receives a package that takes her back to an old unsolved case. A bone from a kidnapped child leads her on another investigation after the mother of the missing child will only deal with her. Her fiancé Henry helps her look for the person who left the package and they find the man she was looking for so long ago. This is a short read with characters from previous books in the series making appearances.

The Lost Bones is another installment of the series. Cate a retired FBI agent receives a package that open ups old wounds of a career she left behind. When the FBI askes her to consult on the case Cate is torn with stepping back into the job even temporarily. The previous case was about a little girl, Jade that was taken by her father after he refused to allow her to have medical treatment. For years no one has known where she was and what happened too her. But the evidence found in the box left for Cate leads her to believe the girl is dead and it is possible that there is another woman with a child at risk from the same man. Cate temporarily helps out the FBI and her fiancé Henry the local doctor helps out to try to reach out to people on small islands around Widows Island in the Pacific Northwest. Will they provide closure for Jade’s family after all these years? Will they determine if there is another women and child at risk?

The Lost Bones was another great installment in the Widow's Island series with a case connected to Cate's past in the FBI.

Former FBI agent Cate Wilde's life has been simpler since she left the FBI and moved back to Widow's Island. But when Cate receives a package containing evidence from an unsolved case from seven years ago, she finds herself agreeing to assist with the case. Seven years ago a three-year-old girl was kidnapped by her father and neither was ever seen again. With new evidence suggesting her prime suspect is still a threat, Cate works to track him down before he claims another victim.

The plot in this book was interesting as it tied into one of Cate's old cases which was a great way to get her back into helping the FBI. Cate has made peace with leaving the FBI, but this specific case remaining unsolved was one of the things that bothered her about doing so. With evidence being hand delivered to Widow's Island Cate realizes that the person may have their own connection to Widow's and that they know about Cate's new life. This case takes Cate to some of the area surrounding Widow's which was interesting to explore as we saw some places new to the series. The suspense picks up as we get closer to the end of the book and the final confrontation with the bad guy was fantastically done.

Cate is my favorite character in this series so I'm always happy to get to one of the books following her character. Since leaving the FBI, Cate has completely changed her life. She now runs a bookstore and bakery which leaves her fulfilled in a way the FBI stopped doing. She has a lot less anxiety in her life as well although being involved in a case again brings back some of those feelings. I liked seeing her work through the anxiety and Henry, her fiancé, was a big part of doing that. I really enjoy her and Henry's relationship, particularly how well they get each other. There are some great moments between the two throughout the book and I enjoyed any moment the two got to be alone. The romance in this series has taken on a bigger role than it did at the beginning but the books are still primarily about the suspense.

Overall The Lost Bones was a very enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Bone Deep, when it releases late next year. I highly recommend this series if you're looking for some quick romantic suspense with a focus on the suspense.

Another quick read in the Widow's Island series.
An action-packed mystery novella about an abusive husband and a missing child. The entire book is a big adrenaline rush, so you can't help binge reading it. And we are one step closer to the wedding of Cate and Henry, yippee!

Many thanks for NetGalley and Montlake for this Advance Reading Copy.

With the help oh Henry, Cate heads to survival island for clues. And it all takes off from there.

Engrossing novella with mystery and suspense on Widows Island. I believe you can read these as a stand a lone but in each book you learn a little more, your more invested in the main characters. This one has the heartache of an abducted child, the nasty of an older disgusting dirtbag, our intrepid Cate (ex FBI with PTSD) and her fiance Henry (Dr and Corner) . We see others, learn about a great singer from the group, see tenacity and hopefully there were some little hints for the future in those outer islands. Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Cate ex FBI gets a package, no return address, items inside from a case of 7 years ago. Handwritten note inside "to help me and the coming baby" A father thought to have abducted his 3 year old girl Jade. Against the mother wanting to seek medical help for her daughter
Cate wanting closer and for the mother, and her urging Cate to look at the case again. can she prevent it from happening again.
Tense plot when a child is involved. Well done.
Given ARC by Net Galley and Montlake for my voluntary review and my honest opinion Release Oct 26, 2021

Back to the small island of Widow's Peak and its unnaturally high murder rate!

Cate left the FBI years ago after being shot but one case has always haunted her. When a morbid package is left for her, she is drawn back into the fold to finally put the case to rest. Her fiancee, Henry, the local GP and coroner is dragged in too. Because there is no way he is letting her do this herself - he may patch up people for a living but he can still back up his love.

I highly recommend this series. Each book is little snapshot of life on this little island and how the characters all interact with each other. Henry is great as the stalwart fiancee, trying to ensure that Cait doesn't get sucked down a rabbit hole. There may be triggers for a few people: child physical abuse/neglect, domestic abuse

The Widow’s Island Series has been a great read so far, and The Lost bones by Kendra Elliot continues the thread. Former FBI agent Cate Wilde just thought things would be simpler once she moved back to Widow’s Island. However, this turns out to not be the case. If she’s not finding bodies, she’s finding bones. She and her family and friends are constantly in the middle of something. Having gone back and read the series from the very beginning gives me a greater appreciation of the characters and allows for me to be move involved in what happens to them. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

When a box containing bones arrives at her bakery, former FBI agent Cate is dragged back into investigating the unsolved kidnapping of a three-year-old girl. Cate works to solve this cold case, fearing that the prime suspect will strike again.

This book reads like a full-length novel, not the novella it is. The Lost Bones is fast-paced and packed with action. I enjoyed the intriguing plot that includes some danger and a little bit of romance.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for a digital copy. All opinions expressed in this voluntary review are my own.

The Lost Bones, by Kendra Elliot, is the 8th novella in the Widow's Island Novella series. It's one of those romantic suspense serials that just seems to keep you coming back for more.
When former FBI agent Cate Wilde is handed a peculiar package that contains a small child’s mandible, she ends up being lured back into investigating an unsolved case that she'd worked on 7 years ago. The kidnapping of Jade, a three year old girl, has been with her ever since. Back then, Cate and Jade's mother, Kori, assumed that the little girl was taken by her abusive father. Unfortunately, they both disappeared and the case went cold.
After Kori urges Cate to help, she jumps back into the case and realizes that the prime suspect is probably still a threat. Now that she has new clues, Cate must face the likelihood that the kidnapper has struck again.

A clue in a cold case interrupts former FBI Agent Cate Wilde's new life on Widow's Island in Kendra Elliot's The Lost Bones, the eighth book in the Widow's Island series. The new clue anonymously sent to her brings hope that the case of the missing little girl will be solved. I really enjoyed following Cate's detective work and logical thinking. This is an excellent novella and I highly recommend it.

I received an ARC and I am happy to provide a honest review.

Another great addition to the Widow’s Island series from my favorite duo. This is a fast paced novella start to finish. Kendra is a favorite of mine so always love getting into another novel. Thank you Kendra and Netgalley for the ARC

Kendra Elliot continues the Widows Island Novellas with other characters from the Island. Cate the former FBI agent now a book store owner and engaged to Henry the local doctor and mortician. A former case that was hers when she was an active agent has resurfaced close to home and she is asked to help the FBI in tracking down a kidnapper and a suspected killer who may be in her area, with a new victim. Dr. Henry is a great help in giving her a cover and an assist in the pursuit. Tessa and Logan are also working on the case. This book had some action that pumps the adrenaline. Exciting events and the story stays with the love, friendships, and close community that makes these Novellas great. Super quick read, perfect for the beach. Love these characters! Thank you, Kendra Elliot, NetGalley, and Montlake for the chance to read this ARC. This is my honest opinion. I found this to be a quick, easy, excellent read.

Great short, mystery novel! I wish there had been more of it, but realize this is the point of the series. Well written and logical.

Love this series!!! I think this may be my favorite one. There was a lot packed into this and I was hooked as soon as Cate opened the mysterious package. I loved the story and how it related to one of Cate's old cases. Will Cate ever break free from the FBI and be able to simply enjoy the bakery and bookstore? There's always a case drawing her back to her old life. Love Henry and Cate together. Looks like there will be another wedding soon. Hopefully nothing happens to prevent everyone from getting married. How was Rich able to get women because it wasn't with his winning personality??!! He was crazy. Widow's Island sure does attract its share of murderers, kidnappers, and creepy people up to no good. Which means Tessa and Cate will have job security.

Definitely recommend the book, but you should to read the previous books in the series. It was a great mystery/thriller with a bit of romance. Can't wait to read the next books in the series. I'm sure there will be more murders to investigate. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Montlake through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Lost Bones – Kendra Elliot

#TheLostBones #NetGalley #Montlake
Thank you to @Netgalley, Montlake publishers and author Kendra Elliot for the ARC of this novella to review.
Having read only one of this series before I knew of the main character but not her personality.

Again the author gives a brief back story and dives into the action.

We learn of how Cate has retired from the FBI but one of her open cases has come to light regarding a young girl abducted by her father.

Cate receives a mysterious package which draws her back into the FBI to help with her old case.
This is a fast paced thriller with so much brilliantly written detail for a short story.

I was gripped from the get go.
4 stars
