This children's poetry book was amazing. My 9 year old daughter loved every single poem. she just kept standing up and saying listen to this one, read them out loud and had us all in fits of laughter. It's certainly a book that your child will keep picking up time and time again. We both loved all the pictures in the book one with each brilliant poem. As a mother it made me feel so good seeing my daughter want to read a book over the dreaded tablet and constant YouTube clips. It's great knowing that she will be learning a great skill without her feeling like its a lesson or her even knowing she is learning. She even told me the other day that she wants to write one out to take to school and share it with the rest of the class. I'm so happy I found this book. So much praise to the author and his publishing team for bringing such fun and laughter to my small family. I hope you will all love this book too. Yet again another brilliant author to add to my watch list.
I have put in my diary the publication date to add reviews to retailers and social media networks again.

This is a super cute collection of poems with very funny and odd stories! Love the poetry and hilarious situations from questions kids probably ask adults. Illustrations were great and would be enjoyable not only for kids, but also adults!

What’s Wrong with a Pet Dinosaur? is fun collection poetry. It’s perfect for kids and adults. The illustrations are so good. The poetry and drawings reminded me of Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein. Some of the poems were silly and a few of them actually made me laugh out loud. I definitely recommend this book.

"What's Wrong with a Pet Dinosaur?" is a collection of 'nonsense' poems for children, written and illustrated by Tony Philips. I went into this collection hoping for an random, light-hearted, and entertaining read, and that was exactly what I got. Reading this as a critical adult is not the way to go, and it took me about 20 or so pages before I was able to begin reading this collection less like an adult and more through the eyes of a child. Once I did so, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. While I will likely never reread this, I did enjoy my time spent reading it and would recommend it to parents with young children. The illustrations as well are just an added bonus which really brings this book together.

Thanks you Netgalley and and publisher for allowing me to read this book. I didn't enjoy reading this out loud or really at all.

This was a simple, cute book of middle grade poems. They are very imaginative and funny. I can see young students getting a funny picture in their heads and giggling while reading this. It seems a bit long and to be honest, I skimmed several pages because I got a little tired reading them. But overall, very cute collection of poems.

I requested this book thinking it looked a little Dr Seuss-esque and expecting a picture story book.
That's not what this book is. Instead it's a collection of children's' poetry verses, some long, some short, some really funny, some a bit bizarre, some rhyming well, others feeling a bit forced. But there is a plethora of options, so chances are you'll find something that speaks to you or the littles in your life.
Overall What's wrong with a Pet Dinosaur? is a good way to introduce young children to poetry, and the illustrations are simplistic but fun.

So cute! This felt like a combo between Shel Silverstein and Louis Sachar! I can easily see this as a permanent fixture in elementary schools. The poems varied in length and stanzas and the illustrations were very simple yet adorable.

I love the illustrations of this book! It reads like it was written by a very precocious child. My grandson would love this book.

A fun quick read with many lovely rhymes. Some will have you chuckling as you read with whimsical nonsense. I definitely recommend for children in order to develop a love of poetry and rhymes.

I requested this book thinking its a children's fiction, but it turns out to be a hilarious Dr. Seuss- esque children's poem book. It was the perfect book to introduce kids to poetry.

My daughter read it like short stories, and she wrote down her favourite poems from the book:

- Always Eat the Icing First, she doesn't see anything wrong with icing on toast or rice either.

- Sticky Fingers, oh, she could relate to this

- Who Are All the Sugar in the Sugar Bowl, it reminded her of 'Who took the cookie from the cookie jar' song

- Someone has Taken my Pants, she likes the picture of the boy in his underwear

- Who Wants an Ice Cream sandwich, it reminded her of a Ten Pigs book that we have

- Grown Ups Are Crazy People

- Worst Day, she loves the twist with the April Fools day in the end.

I laughed until I cried and re-read just about every poem over and over again.
The collection is charming, youthful, and smart. Each poem captures a child’s perspective on reality. Even adults will read this collection without a child. It’s very Shel Silverstein-ish. Children will connect with it well.

As an educator, I will be purchasing a hard copy for my classroom! The poems could offer an excellent introduction to a lesson. The rhymes are perfect for all early reading ages. I’m a firm believer having children read poetry will increase their fluency skills especially with children who struggle with reading expression.

4/5 because of how much I can see myself reading it in my classroom.
The extra 5th star because of how much I laughed.

Part Roald Dahl and part Carol Ann Duffy, "What's Wrong With a Pet Dinosaur" is a rib-tickling collection of seemingly mindless poems that will elicit not just laughs but guffaws. Even though the book is meant to be one for kids, it is the adults who would be regaled more by the wicked puns and crazy shenanigans contained within the poems adorning the book.

Tony Philips complements the poetry with equally brilliant or crazy or crazily brilliant illustrations! This collection is an absolute delight for the young and the old alike.

This proved to be a very commendable compilation of the author's verses for children, together with some simple cartoonish illustrations when needed. An early trend was easily spotted, of a kind of list poem that liked to build and build to a punchline. So a girl itemises every single event she can think of that would suit her dream birthday (and all her three hundred invitees, too), an enterprising yet unfortunate lad lists what he has to build a tree-house with, and we see a gamut of lies a further kid spouts. But there are also verses concerning a particular situation – a girl dissuades her audience from eating the last slice of cake, Santa gets stuck in the chimney, and a bear gets taken to a wedding as a guest.

Santa makes more than one appearance, but he doesn't repeat as often as the burp jokes. All told it's pretty enjoyable throughout, well-pitched at a primary school audience, and bar a couple of rare instances of US-only references, virtually universal. There were a few pieces I could have done without (including some of the longer works, oddly), but despite the quality slacking towards the final third the hit rate here is high.

This is a great Shel Silverstein read-a-like. A set of hilarious children's poetry incorporating animals, life issues, and even some fairy tales. I enjoyed the simple and funny artwork that goes along with each poem. The poetry is funny, poignant, and relatable for kids today.

It is a cute book with fun poems. My 5 year old and I enjoy reading them for bed time story and we both get quite a kick out of them. Definitely, a keeper.

A laugh out loud book of poems! This book of poems reminds me of a mix of Dr. Seuss rhyming and Shel Silverstein poems and illustrations.

I read most of the poems with my kids and many made them burst out laughing. Their favorites were: Kissing Frogs, I Have to Toot, and Grown-ups are Crazy People.

A few of the longer poems drug on a bit much, but we enjoyed at least 90 percent of the poems. The illustrations are simple sketches, but help add to the humor of the poems.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book reminded me a lot of Shel Silverstein books. They were ridiculous poems with ridiculous images to go with them. What more could you really want in a poetry book like this?

What’s wrong with a pet dinosaur?

A cute children’s book with fun poems and pictures to go with them. There are some fun poems that kept me and my 6 year old very entertained.

He loved the poem about the pet dinosaur, mostly because it would fart and stink the house up.

My favorite poem was the one about the lay piece of cake! I think I’d also try to convince the other person that piece was bad and that’s why I should have it instead!
