This book kind if reminded me a little bit of Goosebumps. It had some stories were I couldn't put it down. 3 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.

This book is a collection of spooky stories, but they’re not really scary. I think the authors should’ve put the story’s name before each one but, other than that, the format was fine. There’s a picture before each story and each one is 6 to 8 pages long. I think it would be good for kids who are in middle school or maybe even elementary school kids who read well. The language isn’t hard to read.

It was a quick read and I liked the first story, “Midnight Music.”

This was a wonderful collection of short stories aimed at a young adult audience. I really enjoyed them as an adult. Yes there were short and sweet but this is perfect for the target audience of 11 + . It's a great introduction to horror as it is mildly scary with just the right amount of chilling to satisfy new readers. I would call it a test the waters book. The book definitely allows the reader to take on board the story and embellish it a little to tell there friends on sleep over. I did like the pictures to show the start of the next story . I just would of liked to see the title of each story after each picture. I applaud the authors attempt at a first novel and look forward to them moving on to creating another with larger storyline . I actually enjoyed the fact they didn't overly go into characters details as this added to the air of mystery created in the stories.

Many thanks to the author and publishing team for creating this great collection of short horror stories that I an sure young readers will enjoy.

This book really had the potential to be something good, but ultimately there needed to be a lot more editing done to this to make these truly ‘chilling’ stories. This is partly the reason I’m not a huge fan of titles that make a promise they can’t keep – they’re usually a huge let down.

There were some good ideas here, but they really needed more fleshing out. The stories all read too simply, even for the target audience. This is supposed to be YA, but it skews much younger, with simplistic prose and nothing too challenging or scary in the stories themselves. They’re very samey and fell very much like the kind of stories kids sit around telling each other in the dark.

This is also a very short book, at just 93 pages, so it wouldn’t be too much for a younger reader to tackle. But ultimately the length works to its detriment, as the stories quickly blur into one another.

There’s nothing unsalvageable here, but again, it required a deeper edit than what it ended up getting, and the stories become forgettable.

Not Bad. A nice collection of spooky tales more suitable to a younger reading audience. The writing style is somewhat immature, reminiscent of a school English assignment, but there is some raw talent there which could be honed to a more professional level of authorship given time and experience. On the whole, a fairly chilling collection, best read at midnight by candle light.

I really couldn't get into this book of scary stories. By the midpoint I gave up trying to read it because the stories had been so boring. There was really nothing scary or terrifying about any of the ones I read. I definitely wouldn't recommend this book to anyone unless they needed help falling asleep.

A really great collection of short horror stories for younger readers! All of the stories featured are a perfect lengthfor younger readers, they are easy to read and most keep the reader's attention throughout.

I thought this was a really fun "starter horror" collection for young readers. There was just enough scary stuff (but not too scary) and the stories were all very short so work well with shorter attention spans.

I received an e-ARC of this book by the author and publishing via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

Fun and creepy horror anthology - can't go wrong with some fun scares, and personally like to do a few in between other full novels for a quick fix!

This book, with 13 stories of horror, promised to be one terrifying read. It was anything but.

The presentation needed improvement. The names of the stories were only mentioned in the Contents. The stories themselves were separated by images, but there was no mention of the names of the stories.

The stories were badly written. Tenses changed arbitrarily within paragraphs and even sentences. In one story, a sound is described as being too ornate to be made by the wind. Another sound is described as being ‘soft and quiet like a nursery rhyme.’

All the stories end abruptly. Short stories don’t allow room for much character development, but here, stories end before they even begin.

Come Closer was the only story that I thought could have turned out better if more effort had been put into it. The rest of them are all developments of banal ideas that you have read better versions of in other places.

Of course, the collection isn’t meant for grownups. But even my teenage daughter, who loves RL Stine, found the stories weak, unable to even create an atmosphere of foreboding.

this was a great anthology with different stories, the characters were great and all of them were interesting and had a lot of fun.

The stories in this book are sufficiently creepy, moreso for the author's insistence that they are all true. But the writing is a bit on the clunky side with a lot of tense shifting, and most of the stories end very abruptly.

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This short collection of short stories would be a great volume to give to the pre-teens and teens in your lives that like to be a bit spooked. Great for around the campfire or during sleepovers, especially the stories Come Closer, Reflection, The Stain and Watch your Step

This is a book for YA ghost/horror stories. It's not going to work in my opinion. These did not scare me. And I'm only guessing but I think teenagers will laugh more than be scared. I would put this more towards younger children, you know maybe early teens rather than the target audience.

I know I'm not the target audience. But I still feel this should be reassessed.

Loved this collection of short scary stories. Some of them was more creepier than I care to admit. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all my friends. I rate this book 5* !

The stories in Whispers and Screams fell really flat for me. As a collection of stories, it is expected that they will be short. However, these stories are so short there is no time for any plot development. The characters were flat. While it promises to have scary aspects, it leaves the reader staring blankly at space, waiting for the stories to begin.

I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and publisher BooksGoSocial in exchange for an honest review.

This collection was short and sweet. The stories are very short which might put some people off, but I appreciated the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark vibes. The stories felt similar to those ones but a bit more sophisticated: still for children but not quite as basic. This definitely isn't a collection for older readers but I found it had a lot of charm and I really enjoyed it as an adult reader knowing what I was getting in for. I can see this being a nice change of pace to read to kids before bed to introduce them to the horror genre without them being too scared by it. Some of the stories are a bit basic but others have nice touches to them. Given it was co-authored by a 12 year old, this is a decent anthology for sure.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5 stars

This is a collection of YA ghost/horror stories. As someone who is in my late 40’s I am obviously not the target audience for this book however, I still felt that the stories are more suited to a younger audience than it is aimed at. What confused me when I started this book was that the stories didn’t have any titles and I got confused as I didn’t realise that the last story had ended. Eventually I realised that a picture separates the stories. This is a short book so a very quick read. None of the stories are particularly scary and as with all short story collections some stories were better than others. On the whole I enjoyed this book.

I unfortunately couldn't connect to these stories. I wanted to like this. It sounded so good. But it just wasn't a good fit for me.
So I had to DNF it.

I’m a big fan of teen horror and kids’ horror, particularly in the short story form, so I was excited to read this. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for me. The stories felt very flimsy and weren’t at all scary - more like creepypastas or posts on Reddit. However, perhaps that’s the point, and I’m just not the right reader for it. This might suit a reluctant reader who wants a very, very mild scare.
