Well this one is a doozy. I just said to my husband after finishing this book that Im very happy that our marriage isnt filled with lies and deception.

Right from the beginning i was at the edge of my seat. So many twists and turns.

I highly recommend this one if you like domestic suspense novels with interesting characters. Jess Ryder is a pro at domestic thrillers. I love her stories

I love old adages and the one that fits this book is marry in haste, repent in leisure. Lily is swept off her feet by Edward. Along with the new husband comes three children. And lots of secrets. I dived right in, eager to unlock the secrets of this warped family. Something was off about the husband, but even I didn’t detect the entire truth. I thought Lily had gumption and I loved her friend Marsha. It’s a secretive story that you will want to read in order to uncover what really happened to the first wife…

How much can you really know about a person after just seven months? Enough to marry them??

That’s exactly what happens here in The Second Marriage. Lily marries her older, handsome, wealthy employer. He seems to be perfect… her dream man.

Shortly after moving in, though, Lily learns some unsettling things about Edward’s past so she starts digging deeper to find out the whole truth.

What a ride this one was! The Second Marriage was the first book I’ve read by this author, and I’ll definitely be looking into more! This story was so entertaining and kept me turning the pages because I just had to know what really happened! I saw part of the ending coming but not all of it and it was still fun to watch everything unfold.

I highly recommend this one if you like domestic suspense novels with engaging characters!

The Second Marriage starts out with Lily having a perfect romantic proposal, given by Edward, the father of the student she’s been teaching. Flashing back to the past when Lily was just hired, we learn that Lily is Noah’s teacher. Noah is a smart, creative boy, but he is also lonely, reluctant to form a bond with Lily, and seemingly sad and anxious. Edward is a widower; his wife died 5 years ago after eating a food she was allergic to. Lily is forbidden from mentioning Noah’s mother, as it would upset him too much. Edwards’s oldest children, Tara ang Georgia, are extremely resistant to Lily and Exward’s marriage. Will Tara and Georgia overcome their hatred of Lily? Or is there a much bigger problem on the horizon?

Jess Ryder is an accomplished writer, this is a great novel. I was taken in from the first page and loved it. Would recommend to all.

Jess Ryder has written a thoroughly engrossing read. The characters are believable and the narrative gathers great momentum right from the start. For me,the story had echoes of 'Rebecca'. The past is skillfully woven into the present. I give it four and a half stars.

This book was so good! I loved the characters, the story was captivating and the ending was unexpected.

I read about 100 books a year with most of them being thrillers & mysteries. I have high expectations so it takes a lot for me to be blown away. The Second Marriage did exactly that! It was the perfect amount of drama & suspense. The last quarter of the book was so intense, I stayed up until 2am trying to read it. I cannot say enough positive things about the ending! This book deserves more than 5 stars! I cannot wait to read more from Jess Ryder!

This is my first book from this writer and my first thriller. One of the things that made e request the book was the cover that was beautifully done and the name. The name caught my attention.

To be honest I wasn’t expecting to love the book as much as I did. It was an insane amazing read. I was hooked since the first moment and the entire book was filled with plot twists and enigmas and we never know what will happen.

I mean they seem to be the normal couple and then we find out what Edward has done ( I won’t give spoilers away but OMG???)

The whole book was so captivating and emotional and made me so curious and until the last chapters I had zero clues of what was happening and that got me even more hocked to the story.

My favorite characters were for sure Noah and Lily and how they evolved as human beings and characters and Noah besides being a kid he was the one who solved the entire mystery somehow. I mean he always knew deep down but Edward was trying so hard to suppress his memories cause he was scared.

Overall a really good read and a great first book for my first thriller.

What is the secret about Edward’s first wife?

Why won’t he let anyone talk about her in front of Noah?

Did Lily marry Edward too soon? Did he have a plan that she was unaware of?

Why do they live in a gated mansion and not let Noah go to school?

Lily found out about all of these questions and all these secrets Edward seems to be keeping after her whirlwind romance that her friend warned her about.

Something is going on, and you can feel the tension and undertone of menace on each page.

Lily isn’t taking all of this lightly, though. She is determined to find out the truth.

When she finds letters in a secret place Noah uses to communicate with his mother, her fears escalate about what is going on.

Excellent character development and characters that have you feeling what they are experiencing both good and bad.

Ohhhh so good...don't miss this one that has an ending you will love. 5/5

You won’t want to put this thriller down!

This is a fantastic thriller and probably the best one yet from this author.
There’s plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down,
I’d definitely recommend this one!

Lily marries Edward who has 3 kids. Two older teenage girls and an 8 year old son. Lily knows Edward’s wife Clare died a few years before,& he really doesn’t like to talk about her. But Lily soon finds out that Edward has a past & she may not know him like she thought she did.

Well, this book was decently entertaining. I loved Lily’s character as well as her connection with Noah and her best friend, Marsha. They were some feel good relationships. The book was really well written & easy to read. It did however lack that shock factor that I think every thriller truly needs. I was waiting for a twist at the end, but there wasn’t a single one. It was a bit disappointing. However, I would recommend this book because all in all it was a good read.

I have just found another author to add onto my FAL {favourite author list}. WOW! Just WOW! Gobsmacked by the twist!! really, really, really good. I raced through this brilliant, twist filled book. It was completely engrossing, impossible to put down and the twist floored me. I loved all the characters even the evil Edward and his dastardly daughters who I found were very spoilt. I wanted to throw my arms around little Noah, who I adored, he just wanted to be loved and held by his mum. Lily was a gutsy character and she knew how to get what she wanted, even though she was afraid of Edward towards the end. She only wanted to help Noah come out of his shell and she wanted to know what really happened to Edward's first wife Claire, that's when the twist start to ramp up to full throttle. The plot was brilliant and consistent throughout, it's an unputdownable psychological thrill ride, with a side of mystery, passion and suspense and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and getting to know all the brilliant characters.

{There are two words in the book which I don't think fit with the construction of the story one of them was "Dear Marsha - location 66 the dear part just doesn't sound right, it makes Marsha sound like she's old and not a young woman. The other word is "pissed" location 1969, I would of thought something like drunk or tipsy would off sounded better, pissed just sounds to common.} I mean this with the greatest respect I'm not saying it to be picky and I'm no author or master of words, I just thought I would give a bit of constructive feedback.

What a fun ride The Second Marriage was to read. When I saw that this book was written in the same vein as The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl, I mashed the request button and waited with bated breath for the publisher’s response. I was approved, and when I started reading the book, I sat up all night because I could not put it down.

Lily marries Edward, a widower with three children, after a brief whirlwind romance following her stint as the youngest child’s nanny. The night of their small marriage, only attended by Lily’s family and Edward’s children, Edward’s youngest son Noah tells Lily that he knows his mother is still alive. What follows is Lily’s discovery after discovery of lies and deceit until she is no longer able to trust anyone, including Noah.

I really appreciated the prose of this book—the taut, short sentences spoken in first person conveyed a real sense of immediacy and urgency. The characters were well-rounded, and the setting in England was described exceedingly well, such that I was easily able to imagine the book’s scenes in a place I have never visited.

It looks like Jess Ryder has written several more books, and I have eagerly set them all to “Want to Read” on my Goodreads profile. 5 Stars out of 5.

This was an acceptable story, but it doesn't have a certain flare. The story is very straightforward. The mystery isn't all shrouded in a cloud. The character's depth is not there. All the characters' development is on the surface. There's no real explanation or progression to the protagonist. Without going in-depth and ruining the story for others; when I read the story, the event is revealed to the reader (me). However, when it comes to the ending and explanation of the event ...it's just the reveal and there's no progression to the event. It is just it. The person who done the murder is revealed and that's the end. The story just was written poorly without real thought to development.

After a quick courtship, Lily finds herself married to Edward, the father of the child that she home schools. In addition to his young son, he has two older daughters and his late wife seems to have tragically died from mistakenly eating bread containing nuts despite having a terrible nut allergy. His son Noah tells Lily that his mom is still alive, and coming to get him, and he is so emphatic that though she doesn't initially believe him, she finds herself investigating his claim.

This was a 24 hour read for me. I started it before bed last night, intending to read a couple of chapters and I was at 45% before I finally had to put it down and get some sleep. Needless to say I was eager to resume my reading today. I liked this one because despite getting married quickly, Lily wasn't the total twit that you usually find in these books. The kind that overlook all of the red flags staring them in the face because that is the only way the book will work. Lily became suspicious fairly quickly and started investigating. The other thing liked was that there was enough new information turned up regularly that this one really kept my attention. I was engaged throughout. I have read several of this author's novels, but I think this was among her best.

Lily is marrying Edward a widower with a small son Noah.She met Edward when she became Noah's tutor..
Edward is 15 years older than lily and a father to 2 older daughters who enjoy being funded by dad.
After their wedding Lily goes to say goodnight to Noah he says he remembers everything but won't tell what he remembers.
Nobody is allowed to mention Noahs mum as it will upset him Edward says there are no photos of her what is he hiding?
I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good easy read.

Unfortunately it wasn't for me, I found the plot very predictable and unbelievable, Lily is a good but frustrating character and I don't believe a woman in her situation would have acted like she did, It had potential just a shame it didn't live up to it

Another unputdownable domestic thriller! The Second Marriage had lovable leads, loathsome villains and exciting twists!

Lily was a great main character, I love strong-willed and determined heroines. I also loved Marsha! Lily couldn’t made it through without her.
Poor little Noah! Everyone was lying to him and sometimes they made him feel like he was crazy.

As for Edward… well, you’ll see. It’s like everything he says is a lie.

The ending felt a bit rushed and there were scenes throughout the novel that should have been trimmed down a bit. The midpoint plot twist was a delightful surprise! It caught me off guard. Over all, I had a great time reading this one- perfect for domestic thriller junkies.

My first Jess Ryder novel, but if the others are just as good or better than The Second Marriage, then I know for sure I’ll be binge-reading those soon.
