This is a truly deep and detailed look at, according to the author, some very specialised bits of geology - sedimentology I think but don't quote me on it.

For me, as an interested but untrained member of the public it was just a bit too detailed and specialised. I loved the travel and the experiences he shares with us from some fairly inaccessible (both in geographical and more recently political terms) places and the people he met, however his attempt to carry me along with some of the geology was unsuccessful and I am disappointed by that because I really did want to understand it, but it is just mind blowingly complex.

Also on my kindle the pictures don't show in colour or very clearly, which as there feels to be tens if not hundreds and they are very specific, I guess may well detract from the overall experience. If you're a knowledgeable geologist, scientist or other intelligent 'ist' you will most probably love it.
