Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Perfect Daughter by Alex Stone is an unputdownable domestic thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. The story revolves around Jess, who has a weird relationship with her mother. Since her father left them, Jess looks to her mother for approval for everything: what she wears, who she dates, etc. When Jess meets Adam, a plumber, her mother disapproves. Then, Adam goes missing and is presumed dead, and the police believe Jess is the one who killed him. Did Jess really murder Adam? Or is something else going on here?

Here is an excerpt from Chapter 1, which is from Jess's point of view:

"I never used to lie. I never used to do anything my mother would disapprove of. I was a good girl. A good daughter. A perfect daughter. At least, that’s what I tried to be.
But perfect doesn’t really exist.
‘I love him.’ I paused. The word caught in my throat. ‘I loved him.’ It was amazing the difference putting one little ‘d’ on the end of a word could make. It changed everything. Our future had become the past with that one little letter. But it also made it less of a lie. I had loved him. Once."

Overall, The Perfect Daughter is a great domestic thriller that will appeal to fans of Liv Constantine and Megan Abbott. I was very interested after reading the synopsis of the book and could not stop reading until I found out who murdered Adam. I was literally guessing until the end. One highlight of this book is the intriguing premise. There were so many directions that the author could have chosen to take the premise. I did take off 1 star because I found the ending somewhat predictable and unsatisfying. I was hoping for a slightly bigger twist and was disappointed when it didn't happen. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of domestic thrillers, you can check out this book when it comes out in October!

The Perfect Daughter - well how many secrets and lies can 3 people have?
The story centres around Jessica, her mother and Adam her boyfriend.

Jess' mums years of grinding her down with mind games led to her self worth being almost at 0. Desperate to be loved, she falls for Plumber Adam. He tries to build her up, changes her clothes, hair and make up. Only, not all is as it seems.

Jess has her own secrets. When Adam goes missing, presumed dead, the search for the truth begins.

We bounce between the present day, her childhood and the start of her relationship with Adam.

With so many untruths, will she choose the truth in the end?

Perfect like its name.
Jess Harper has spent her whole life trying to make her mum, Abigail happy and proud. And everything Jess does, from the clothes she wears, the job she has, the men she dates, are all approved by Abigail first. So when Jess announces that she has a new man in her life – plumber Adam – Abigail is less than impressed. 'A plumber? Really, Jessica....' Adam encourages Jess to break free from her mum’s manipulation, can’t she see what’s happening? But Abigail is only doing these things to keep Jess safe, to protect her from getting hurt again…isn’t she?Jess, caught in the middle, doesn’t know who to believe or trust. And then Adam vanishes without trace. Now Jess is the police’s prime suspect and they want to know if Jess really is as perfect as she seems.
I really want this book to succeed because it really is twisty. Loved it.
