Unfortunately this one was one of those books in a series that seems necessary to read in order. I had no idea who most of the characters were, or why I should care about them, and it distracted me from the main plot. A lot of the drama seemed manufactured, but htat could be because I didn't understand the setting.

Roulette: A Strong Woman Medical Romance
MetroGen After Hours Book 4
by Carina Alyce

Kyra and Ryan meet online as they are both obsessive supporters of the Cleveland Browns football team. When they are both in Vegas they arrange to meet up. They couldnt be more opposites. She Is a calm, organised, in control Nurse in NICU and unknown to her he is an ER adrenaline junky doctor in the same hospital.

A fast moving read with loads going on.

A constant page turner - great characters and marvellous storyline.

Another great book in this series .

Roulette: A Strong Woman Medical Romance by Carina Alyce is the fourth book in the MetroGen After Hours Series and inhabits the same universe as the MetroGen Downtown Forbidden Love Duets. One of the best parts of this series is the constant overlap and catching up with couples and people from previous books. Of all the books I have read in these two series, hands down this is my favorite. The book’s construction easily pulled me in and the initial connection/meeting between our two main characters was so cute and so much fun! Kyra Washington and Ryan Yates are polar opposites; she is a very organized and composed nurse working in a neonatal unit and he is a laidback, adrenaline junkie working in the always hectic atmosphere of the ER; he is also a bit of disciplined gambler. They meet while cheering for the perennial losing team, the Cleveland Browns. I do not watch football but amazingly the banter between these two die hard fans was fascinating. I actually learned a great deal about the history of the Cleveland Browns. When they meet, they are both in costume and based on their love for the Browns, strike up an online friendship, sight unseen. When these opposites finally connect in real time and real life, will they be able to forge a lasting relationship? The commentary/diary entries from the hospital chaplain made for charming transitions between chapters. I liked Kyra but I LOVED Ryan and I was totally rooting for him to beat the house!

This was quite a wild ride! It's a very fast read and moving along at a lightning-quick pace just adds to the dizzying feeling of the story. Things turn on a dime, there's so many people, and there's a great deal of detail not only about the Cleveland Browns but also ER and NICU medicine. After a while I kind of gave up on making complete sense of it and just went along for the ride. It feels like it's very necessary to read the whole series to have an idea of who's who and what's happening (and I still don't understand the diary entries from the chaplain?)

Befuddled as I was at times, I'm not at all sorry I read it. My favorite part was the vivid detail in both the football and medical parts of the story. There's a real sense of place and community in the writing that feels so authentic. I would definitely encourage readers to read through the series if they're looking for a fresh, intense whirlwind of a story!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
