I have loved this book and the series this is my favorite in the series. I love the retelling of old books

*4.5 stars. This one was just as good as the first book in the series! I just love seeing how the classics are turned into crime novels. While they have a crime theme, I still recognize the classic story in it, which is great!

Perfect read for the colder months! You don’t have to read the classics to be able to understand these retellings.

I enjoyed Sense and Second-Degree Murder so much! The series is a very refreshing set of retellings set for the needs of our time.

I recently finished reading "Sense and Second-Degree Murder" by Tirzah Price, and it's a solid four-star read. This book beautifully combines the wit of Jane Austen with the mystery of Agatha Christie, resulting in a captivating blend of romance and intrigue.

The story follows the Dashwood sisters as they embark on a quest to uncover the truth behind their father's unexpected death, which turns out to be murder. The suspenseful journey to unmask the killer had me hooked from the beginning.

What stood out to me were the sisterly dynamics. Elinor's scientific mind, Marianne's romantic aspirations, and young Margaret's novel inspiration added depth to the characters. Their sibling squabbles felt true to life, and the loyalty and love they had for each other touched my heart.

While the plot was a bit predictable at times, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it all unfold. If you're a fan of period charm, mystery, and strong family bonds, this book is a must-read.

Tirzah Price never disappoints. I loved this one just as much as Pride & Premeditation and cannot wait to get to Manslaughter Park.

To preface this review - I have never read Jane Austen, I don't intend to read Jane Austen, and I love reading remakes of classics but half the time they fall flat for me. This absolutely did not fall flat! I loved that it was written in "modern speak" enough that I was able to understand what was going on without having to think excessively about the language being used, but that it still felt very reminiscent of the time period it takes place in. I enjoyed being able to get a few different perspectives throughout the book, and the mystery was captivating - if at times obvious. I am curious how closely aligned the characters were to their source content considering this is a twist on the original book. Does this make me want to read Sense and Sensibility? Maybe. More than I did before I read this book. It was a fun murder mystery time, thats for sure.

Jane Austen's sense and sensibility basically gets a murder mystery makeover and the first book focused on P&P.
Its was a good read. Many of the elements remain the same like the brother inheriting everything and the sisters thrown into desperate hardship.

I wish this was going to be more than a trilogy! I just find these so cozy and fun with the perfect time period! I’ve never read the original stories but looked them up to know the general idea, and these just have the cutest twists from the original work!

I adored the sisterly love and that the main character is a budding author! The mystery, romance and setting is what really sold me though, I wish there was going to be more books 🥲.

One of the strengths of this retelling is the way in which the author has developed both Elinor and Marianne's characters, which are delightfully quirky and different from their Austen originals. The dialogue is also well-written and consistent with the characters' personalities. I look forward to the next book in the series!

Again, slightly too mature for my students but I adored this second installation in the Jane Austen murder mysteries series. It was fairly predictable but still an enjoyable read.

Loved this follow up to Pride & Premeditation. Seeing some of my beloved characters in a new twist brought a smile to my face once again! I'm sincerely hoping that Tirzah Price does all yhe Jane Austen heroines, and then maybe does other classic heroines as well!

This book hooked me from the first chapter, I really enjoyed the premise and the women mystery solvers.

Highly original while drawing on classic Jane Austen characters, Sense and Second-Degree Murder brings a fun and compelling mystery while empowering the female characters to not only decide their own futures but also use their intellect and expertise to solve the murder. I appreciated the detailed character development and found the relationships to be well-established and heartfelt. Fun for anyone, regardless of if you like Austen's original works.

This was a fantastic book! I liked that it could ve read as a stand alone, as I haven't read Pride and Premeditation. I loved how it highlights women in a STEM field in a time where women weren't accepted for doing so. The blend of Austen and unique story elements was perfect! As for the story istelf, I loved it. Everytime I thought I had things figured out, a twist would happen that threw me off the track! I love that in a book. The characters were vibrant, likeable, and had real depth. After reading this I will definitley go back and read Pride and Premeditation. I would love more books like this in the future as well!

I really loved reading the first book in this series. It was fun seeing Jane Austen's world molded into a cozy mystery teenage world. I love the idea of classics being turned into cozies. If you do too, you should check this series out!

It took a bit for me to get into the book but once I was in, I was hooked.

I like the theme that Tirzah has going on with strong females stepping out of the norm and having supporting families.

This book has 3 strong young ladies that are so sure of themselves and what they want out of life. At first, I was bit put off by Elinor but she grew on me. The one that I just absolutely loved and was the best part of the book, was Margaret.

At 11, the things she was doing, saying, and thinking…I wish I would’ve have that same mentality. Not only that but her instincts actually play a huge part in the unveiling of the mystery.

I also loved the comments to the lead from Pride and Premeditation, which gives vibes to the possible crossover/team up.

Delightful! Short and sweet. Sense and Sensibility is one of my least favorite Austen novels, because the sisters frustrate me so much. However, I still enjoyed this book greatly, and would continue to read Price's other novels in this genre. 3 stars

This was another fun retelling, how the author is able to balance a murder mystery (actually multiple murders), high society life and add a dash of humor is a great feat in my opinion. Sense and Second-Degree Murder is the second book in the series but each is a standalone so they can be enjoyed completely independently. Each book just so happens to also be a retelling of the classics, this one Sense and Sensibility. For complete honesty, I have not read Sense and Sensibility so I do not know how close to the original this was, was I enjoyed the story on its own merits. I will say that I loved the first book the most, this was enjoyable but not my favorite. I did like how the two stories had a tidbit of a crossover that made me super happy. I look forward to the next book/retelling/murder mystery in the series and the plucky heroines who save the day.
