This book is intended to show how each enneagram type can shed their broken stories and harness their unique power within to become who they are truly meant to be. It's intended to be a guide for using Enneagram wisdom to reauthor your life and write a new story of inner transformation and healing. This book would work best for those who already have a basic knowledge of the enneagram types, since only briefly covers each type at the beginning and offers no tools for readers to determine their type. Readers should also note that this is written from a Christian perspective.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review...I requested this one because I have always found enneagram studies to be really interesting...and this one was no exception. I read all of the chapters, even the ones that weren't about me...although I didn't necessarily agree with everything it said about me, it was pretty close. My only real disappointment would be that there wasn't a test people could take to find out what your enneagram is...this one would be for people that already know...but I would be interested in taking more tests to see if they all agree with what the previous ones have said.

The Story of You: An Enneagram Journey to Becoming Your True Self by Ian Morgan Cron is a life changing book that looks at personality and opportunities for growth. I am so glad that the author wrote this book! The Enneagram is so much more than a self fulfilling prophecy. This book will show you that the Enneagram can be a starting point, a place to start as you pursue growth and wellness as a person. The author looks at these principles overall and then devotes an entire chapter to each Enneagram type. This book is a phenomenal read and I cannot recommend it enough. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

For those familiar with the enneagram, Ian Morgan Cron's most recent book The Story of You takes readers deeper into a journey of personal growth and change. Recommend for any students of the enneagram. Thanks to the author and publisher for providing this arc for review.

having well researched, easy to understand enneagram tools is something i will always take for granted when Ian Morgan Cron is involved. This book is such a tool to us all of us for better understanding of not only ourselves, but of those around us as well

This is a great enneagram book for anyone who has already found their type. I like how the author uses the theme of story throughout.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

For those already acquainted with the Enneagram, this books seeks to move beyond diagnosis and into healing. I liked that it sought to aid people to embrace the strengths of their type and move toward growth. However, it felt redundant a lot of the time so I was a little bored and it took me longer to finish than it should have.

I have been a devoted student of the Enneagram since 2014 when I first encountered it, and it's been completely life-changing for my personal growth. I'm also a regular listener of the podcast. The information in Cron's new book is certainly valuable, but since I consider myself intermediate to advanced in my level of enneagram understanding, I personally didn't get a ton out of this book. However, for those newer to the enneagram, The Story of You is worth a read, even if you just read the chapter for your own type and the types of your closest relationships.

Thanks to HarperOne and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Story of You: An Enneagram Journey to Becoming Your True Self is written by the author of the bestselling enneagram book The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron. The author asks the reader to rethink the old stories that we have been telling ourselves and rewrite those stories so we can become our true selves. This book was very helpful, and as a Type One I especially appreciated this section: "Instead of criticizing someone who makes a mistake, applaud them for trying. Practice authentic compassion by figuring out how to encourage them. Notice what it feels like to stop judging others who don't meet your standards of excellence. Trust me, it's sweet relief not to have to police the world." I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the enneagram. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

Beginning with Enneagram 9s, Ian Morgan Cron gives one chapter to each "type", focusing on their "old story" and how they can be a new-story nine (or one, two, three, etc). This mostly has to do with moving from the passion to the virtue of each number. He often pulls from interviews on his podcast, Typology, and it does seem like he generally prefers a couple numbers over others based on how he writes about each type.

I appreciate netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review this book. While I find the premise of the enneagram fascinating, I was unable to read the whole book. Not because it isn't good or interesting, it just wasn't for me at the moment. However, if you are into the enneagram and personality types, then it is very informative. I read the introduction and then read the types relevant to myself and my family members and friends, I did not read about some of the other types at all as I just wasn't interested enough but I know enough to realize that for others, this will be a great read. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to delve into this book.

"All transformation begins with story transformation."

With this book Cron helps us transform our stories. He uses the rubric SOAR: See, Own, Awaken, and Rewrite.

Each chapter on each of the nine Enneagram types reflect these four touchpoints with clear examples and commentary.

For me as a type Five, Cron says that Fives can "subscribe to a story that looks nothing like the Story of God." He recommends that Fives cultivate our type's Virtue, which is nonattachment. Seek a full range of feelings. Connect our overdeveloped minds with our underdeveloped body awareness. Give ourselves away more extravagantly.

"Trust that you have an abundance of yourself to give. You are more than enough."

Much of the advice for each type applies in some way to each of us, regardless of our type, even though we may identify more with one type than another.

I learned lessons from reading about all nine types. I recommend this book whether you're new to the Enneagram or have been learning it for years.

My thanks to Net Galley and HarperOne for the review copy.

4.5 stars = I loved it! Would re-read.

This is a great second tier Enneagram resource, perfectly paired with the author's previous book. I loved the emphasis here on story - the broken, limiting stories we have told ourselves for years as well as the path to new stories for health and growth. This is a great example of how podcasts and books can weave together - the author uses podcast guests and stories as part of the foundation of the book but cites the episodes so readers can check those out if they haven't already heard them. Brilliant!

This is the sort of engaging resource where you don't just skip ahead to your own number, but you read each one because the stories are so good and the writing is so conversational and fun. Highly recommend.

This book is a sheer joy to read. Sparkling writing, quick pace, great stories and colorful illustrations of each type kept me turning the pages. I laughed at Ian’s wry wit and sharp observations, cried at the heartbreaking vulnerability he shares from his own life, and nodded my assent to his central message: our old stories are keeping us stuck, and better stories are the key to moving forward.

I am loving the enneagram literature that is emerging, built around growth and transformation rather than simple type diagnosis, and this book is no exception. Ian’s authentic, approachable writing reaches out and takes the reader by the hand. He offers a ton of encouragement, by way of prayers, mantras, inspirational quotes, and his own keen insights, that change IS possible. He also provides helpful tools for examining and rewriting our tired old narratives, as well as for taking immediate action against patterns that keep us stuck. He offers simple, practical advice for helping us “grow into our freedom.”

But don’t let the simplicity fool you - this is a very deep book not meant for enneagram beginners. Seeing patterns that have been ingrained in us since childhood is no easy feat, much less taking action to change them. Ian provides great stories of people from each type who have done just that, breaking down and illustrating his tools in each of their stories. The book made me hungry for his companion study guide, and its additional guidance and opportunities to break down and rewrite aspects of my own story.

“You were given something beautiful when you were given you, “ Ian writes. “Something wants to be born into the world through your life.” What perfect encouragement as we start a new year - to open ourselves to the possibility of a new and better story. Highly recommended.

A big thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Having read The Road Back To You, I had a good understanding of the enneagram and the author’s prior work. The Story Of You built on top of that foundation using the author’s style of self-depreciating humor and some interview info from his podcast. Once past the enneagram intro info, the author worked through basic concepts of narrative therapy to help readers start the process of reframing life events through the lens of the enneagram types to write a better story.

Thanks to NetGalley and HarperOne for an ARC of this book.

I find books like this one fascinating. If you are familiar with the enneagram, and even if you are not, The Story of You by Ian Morgan Cron is an interesting book that’s informative and helpful to making positive changes in your life. Its also a nice break to read a non-fiction book after reading lots of heavy, dark suspense novels!

Synopsis:

In this powerful, transformative guide, Ian Morgan Cron demonstrates the life-changing power of the Enneagram. Cron challenges you to rethink the stale stories you tell yourself about who you are and offers lessons in using the Enneagram to help you change your story. As you free your mind from the outdated messages you learned in childhood and master your Enneagram profile, you unlock your own inner power for spiritual growth—and, ultimately, for becoming the true self God meant for you to be.

Drawing on his extensive counseling and personal experience, Cron examines each of the nine personality types and explains step by step how each can find happiness by understanding their origin story, harnessing your type’s strengths, acknowledging weaknesses, and creating space for an incredible—and more positive—new reality.

I thought this was an interesting read. I didn't know much about the enneagram and this was quite detailed and quite interesting. The best part that i took away from this is how we tend to craft stories for ourselves when we are younger or going through something terrible and while those stories protect us they also prevent us from progressing in life and we need to let them go in order to progress and tell ourselves new stories. The author is a christian and and so his beliefs do shine through in this book. If you don't care much for Christianity or religion in general, you may not enjoy it as much
