Once again murder interferes with Andy Carpenter's retirement, but this time it offers an escape from his wife's serious Christmas preparations. The whole crew is on hand to investigate the murder of the town's mayor, and prove the innocence of a young reporter who has been professionally framed. Dogs appear frequently, and although this episode has a Christmas setting, it is one of Rosenfelt's classic legal mysteries. Existing fans will be satisfied to spend time with the Carpenter entourage and immerse themselves in Grover Gardner's familiar voice, while newcomers to the series should follow the well plotted and well timed without any difficulties. Another excellent episode

I had no idea that this was a series or that it's the 24th book that said, I don't think you need to read the books before it. It's not very Christmassy, no magic/miracle, crazy Santa, or mistletoe. I do like that he has a team and not just him or a clueless partner. It was a solid, short detective story. The voice actor was great, I didn't hate the main characters, and it didn't drag. I wish we saw more of the side characters.

This is an in-depth mystery.

I was fascinated by the main character. His methods of solving the case were a little strange to me. The team he put together to help him gave me a few chuckles along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed the way he handled the trial itself. The final reveal of how he figured out who the criminal was included a number of points that I hadn’t picked up on.

The narrator did a good job portraying Andy himself. I did struggle some trying to follow who was speaking since there weren’t obvious differences in his voice for the other characters. This was so minor that I’m giving the narration itself 4 stars.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All of the opinions expressed are my own.

Best In Snow by David Rosenfelt
Andy Carpenter series book 24
Narrated by Grover Gardner
Genre - Cozy Mystery
Book Rating - 4 out of 5 stars
Narration Rating - 5 out of 5 stars

This book starts with a simple walk in the park for Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his golden retriever, Tara. Tara is sniffing around a patch of melting snow and that is when the fun begins. Tara finds a body that has been underneath 2 feet of snow from a previous snowstorm.

The victim is none other than crooked business man Thomas Lansing. A young reporter has just done an expose on Thomas and ends up on trial for the murder. Andy takes him on as a client and people start trying to kill the reporter and Andy.

The narration was great in this book! Grover keeps the book clipping along and while listening I would look up to find an hour had passed and it seemed like minutes.

I would highly recommend this book although I gave it 4 stars because it is part of a series and I would recommend reading the series in order instead of just picking up one of the books and reading it. I was a tad lost in points about things that had in previous books. This one is set at Christmas time which is what initially lead me to it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Best In Snow by David Rosenfelt! Though not an audio aficionado, the narrator was incredible and really kept me engaged. The story, as always, was delightfully for the underdog and felt like old home week with the characters I have grown to adore and expect. I laughed out loud with The Godfather references! Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Publishers and David Rosenfelt for the opportunity to listen to this advanced copy.

Best in Snow is a fun murder mystery. This is the first book that I have read in the Andy Carpenter series and I would like to read more of them. Andy is a wealthy attorney that wants to retire but cases seem to find him. While out walking his dog after a large snowfall. his dog notices a hand sticking up out of the snow. The dead body is the mayor of the town. Andy receives a call from his friend Vince requesting that Andy represent the suspect. The suspect was a reporter that worked for Vince. This reporter had written a political story based off evidence that was found to be falsified. Vince had to fire this reporter because of the story. The police feel that the suspect killed the Mayor as he got the reporter fired. To further complicate the issue, the reporter was found unconscious after being in a car accident on the night of the murder. He has no memory of that evening. Andy has a group of people that help him investigate the murder, including his wife Laurie who is a police officer. Andy has a snarky attitude with a dry humor that entertains throughout the story. I really enjoyed book and highly recommend it.

This was my first book in the series. I didn't know much about the series going into it, I totally judged the book by the cover. When I first started, I didn't think I would enjoy it because police procedurals are not really a go for me. I found that I was really drawn into the story. It was very Law and Order like with Christmas and pups to lighten the mood. The mystery was very good and I found the characters likable and relatable. I also found myself laughing out loud at times. I enjoyed the narration of the story. I will definitely pick up more in this series.

Thank you, NetGalley, for this advanced audio copy.

The latest edition of David Rosenfelt’s series about Andy Carpenter, begrudging lawyer in New Jersey, his cases, and his family narrated By Grover Cleveland is one of the Audible series I enjoy so much. The storylines are familiar as well as the characters, and I can’t imagine hearing these books from anyone but Grover Cleveland. The murders are always spot on and listening to how Andy plays his part in the courtroom is thoroughly enjoyable. A great series that I am proud to say I own them all

I don't remember how I found the Andy Carpenter series, but I'm so glad I did! This is #24 in the series, and while I'm not fully caught up to #24 in my listening, I didn't mind jumping ahead a bit when I had the opportunity. This was another fun addition to the series - the characters are there, the perfection of Grover Gardner's narration is there, the humor and the mystery (that wasn't overly easy to figure out) was there as well. And of course, Andy's beloved golden retriever, Tara is there with her friends. I love that his mysteries usually keep me guessing - I read a lot of mystery/thrillers and really appreciate authors that can keep me in the dark until the big reveal.
As I said, Grover Gardner is perfection as Andy's voice - I strongly suspect that his narration was just as integral to my love for this series as the writing. If you ever listen to audiobooks, I highly recommend choose the audio version of this series.

This may be the 24th book in this series but it is my first one and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Andy is out walking his dog after a snowstorm when his trusted friend starts digging in the snow and when Andy and his companion trudge through the snow to see what his dog found and it appears to be a hand. Well he calls his friend at the station instead of 9-1-1 and it is discovered the body is the Mayor of Patterson. An arrest is soon made and Andy, who is supposed to be retired, is urged to take the case. This book was very good and compelling. There were lots of twists and turns and well thought out strategies and clues. How did I not find this series before!

I read the book and I listened to it too. It's a toss up which one I enjoyed more. The narrator matched Andy's snarky attitude and quick thinking manner to a tee. I did not realize how much I would enjoy the audio book, it's an amazing series doen right.

I love the Andy Carpenter series and Grover Gardner is the voice of Andy. Andy has the kind of personality that fits what he does exactly. He is a semi-retired lawyer that winds up taking more cases than he want. He is teamed up with his wife Laurie to find out who killed the mayor of Patterson. Andy is out walking the dogs including his beloved Tara who finds the body. He has to work at finding out who did it as a favor to his buddy Vince who works at the newspaper. There is a dog involved that Andy talks Vince into caring for as part of the deal. Looking forward to the next round of Andy and the gang.

Another great mystery from David Rosenfelt! The Andy Carpenter series has become a staple for my family to read together. I loved that this one was set around Christmas and gave me all the festive feels. These books are always so fun and have lots of twists and turns to keep it interesting. It is a departure from the usual dark and gritty plot lines usually found in this genre. There is so much humor and I love he role that Tara takes in helping Andy with the case. The narrator was great and added so much to the tone of the book. Even though there are a lot of books in the series, I still recommend this to anyone who likes a fun mystery. These can be read as standalones as well. Thank you do much, Macmillan Audio for the ALC!

Best in Snow is the 24th book in the Andy Carpenter Mystery series by David Rosenfelt. Don't let the 24 scare you....I started reading this series on book 23 and each is a standalone mystery.

This book was so much fun! I absolutely loved it! Sarcasm, quick wit, and dogs! I definitely recommend reading this book!!!

Andy Carpenter is a want-to-be-retired attorney, who can't help himself when faced with the right case! He is a great sleuth, loves dogs, and is so funny! I actually laughed out loud as some of the things he said! The crime solving was great and I loved how it all comes together!

The narration by Grover Gardner was incredible! He had such a great tone and gets sarcasm!

I'm so grateful to David Rosenfelt, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This is a Legal Mystery, and this is the 24th book in the Andy Carpenter series. I love Andy's dry humor in this book. I also love how cases just fall on his lap. I really love the case in this book, and I love all the dogs in this book. This was one of my favorite books in this series that I have read so far. The cover of this book was everything. I listen to the audiobook for this book, and the narrator made this book come alive. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Macmillan Audio) or author (David Rosenfelt) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Another fun ride with Andy Carpenter, his wife, Laurie, and the rest of the crazy crew we have learned to love over the years. I got the audiobook advanced copy from NetGalley )thank you!) When I read a print version of an Andy Carpenter book. I hear the narrator's voice. It's a perfect match. Meanwhile, it's another murder case that requires Andy's skill and as always, he has to put the clues in order, avoid danger, and save the day. I don't care that it’s the same formula each book, David Rosenfelt's wit and writing style will have me coming back every time.

#BestInSnow:

Andy Carpenter is back with his same fun and humor that he’s known for.

What’s so funny is that I’ve read a few Andy Carpenter reads, but never listened. But I literally started listening and thought that this is exactly how I always imagined Andy to talk. Grover Gardner is absolutely for the sense of humor and love of animals that we know as Andy

I keep talking about Andy’s humor, but honestly y’all, we need a glass of water for his dry sense of humor. (That is an actual dad joke from my dad, the king of dry humor) Andy does remind me of my dad in that sense so I of course giggled along with all his jabs and jokes. Tara and Laurie (in that order) steal the show, along with Duchess. I could not stop enjoying Vince and Duchess. The dog chooses you, right?

Great mystery, great lawyering (queue HIMYM) and an amazing Narrator whom may just need to change their name to Any Carpenter for how amazing this was read.

Thank you so much Macmillan audio for my gifted copy!!

This is pretty much identical to all of the other books in the series. An innocent person is charges with murder and Andy and his team figure out what really happened. There are numerous references as to how much he loves his dogs, wife and son. There are tons of quips that greatly overshadow the plot.

In this installment Andy's dog, Tara., finds a dead body in the woods. It happens to be that of the mayor.

I can't explain why I like these books so much. The plots are really a small part of the stories. Andy's comments are really what keep me coming back. I read my first just a few months ago and have quickly gone through almost the whole series. The audio books are great. I learned that if I play at double speed or a little more they last about the same time as a shift weeding my garden.

Basically, if you like one of the series, you like them all. And I do.

Nothing better to kick off the Christmas season than the new Andy Carpenter novel from David Rosenfelt, Best in Snow. (Christmas season, according to Andy’s wife Laurie, starts around October and lasts for four months.) Andy is out in the park walking the dogs in the freshly fallen snow when beloved Golden Retriever Tara literally digs up the body of the freshly murdered Mayor of Patterson, New Jersey. The police waste no time arresting a journalist, Bobby Nash, whose negative story about the Mayor landed him in hot water and cost him his job when the story was proven false. Andy’s buddy Vince insists he’s a good kid who couldn’t possibly have done it and just like that, reluctant attorney Andy Carpenter has a new client.

Soon, more bodies start to pile up as bombs are literally going off all over Patterson. The former Mayor was a front-runner for Governor. Now there’s a new front-runner as well as a hotly contested mayors race. As if that weren’t enough, a gangster from Detroit is spotted in the area. This leads to no shortage of suspects and possible motives that Andy has to sift through if he is going to keep his client from spending the rest of his life in jail. Andy, as is often the case, becomes a target himself, letting him know that there is definitely more here than meets the eye.

Fortunately for Nash, Andy has a brilliant legal mind and an eclectic but talented group of investigators and legal team at his disposal. This is a wonderful mystery that will have you puzzling over every development from beginning to end. Rosenfelt is a master at spinning out these plot threads before eventually tying them all together in a big satisfying bow. The story is filled with wit, humor, and plenty of excitement. Andy’s team and his friends are both hilariously familiar and simultaneously full of surprises. This book is a treat for series fans as well as easy for new readers to jump into.

Audiobook is my preferred way to take in an Andy Carpenter story because narrator Grover Gardner absolutely crushes it every time and he does so here once again. His tone and inflection perfectly capture the dry, sarcastic humor of Andy and particularly his banter with newspaper editor Vince and police chief Pete. They share a recognizably juvenile, insult-based camaraderie common to men who would do anything for one another. This is conveyed by the words on the page and made manifest by Gardner’s excellent delivery. His voicing of Marcus, Laurie’s ex-partner and ofttimes secret bodyguard for Andy, makes me laugh out loud every single time.

Treat yourself to this wonderful book and series. You won’t regret it.

I was provided a copy of this audiobook by the publisher.

Best in Snow by David Rosenfelt is an Andy Carpenter Mystery that is well into the series. Fans of the series will know the main characters maybe how Andy met, fell in love with his now wife, Laurie,. However, this is my first book to read or listen to in the series. It did not hinder my enjoyment at all in listening to this story. Except for one fact, how did Andy, a lawyer, come to have “significant wealth” so that he could be semi-retired.

Now and forever more the voice I hear in my head for Andy Carpenter will be the narrator of this story Grover Gardner. The book is written in first person. Mr. Gardner has Andy’s biting wit, and opinionated style of speaking and thinking down pat.

The story consists of a couple of murders and some bombing from Thanksgiving to after the New Year. Yet I would not call it a Christmas story as such. It is known early on that the bomber is not the person arrested for the murder, so it was difficult to see any connection to the bombing even in a remote way as I was reading. Since this writer is too accomplished to just throw in random events I knew that there had to be a connection but the reader needs to be patient to learn how.

Andy is arm twisted into defending the reporter who is charged. Like the TV court room shows it was clear that Andy and his team would need to find the real killer to get their man freed. Andy’s support team is one of the best group of characters. I liked them better than Andy’s friends. As the story progresses clues and shady characters are revealed. However, the last confrontation still had a twist that I did not guess. Kudos for that.

I am still new to audiobooks. With that can said I believe this mystery would be interesting reading on its own but listening to it read by Grover Gardner enhance my enjoyment of it.

An ARC of the audiobook was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
