Such a cute cover! I really wanted to get into this book, but for some reason this one just didn’t grab my attention like his previous one unfortunately. Still a decent story.

I like that you don’t need to read previous books in the series, it’s another good stand alone.

I really wanted to like this book, if not for anything because of the cover but honestly it just seemed too choppy for me most of the time. The main character wasn’t one you could like and root for and his nonchalant way of life was kind of how he had me feeling about this book.

Typical, quick Andy Carpenter mystery. Always enjoyable. While not completely obvious who did it and why, it definitely left a lot of room for reasonable doubt on the part of the jurors. It almost seemed silly that Andy was even worried about the verdict. As usual, I would recommend. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced audio version in exchange for an honest review.

I just reviewed Best in Snow by David Rosenfelt. #NetGalley

I had this as an audio book and it was great hearing this with a jersey accent. I enjoy David Rosenfelt's books because they have some intrigue but they aren't overly explicit. Being a dog lover I like that there are dogs in all of his books and they all are ok at the end of the story. I would recommend this book how likes some mystery.

Where have I been? This is an Andy book, possibly #24, my first. I loved narrator, he took this fluffy murder to a new high. The author's writing and the narrator's performance had me laughing out loud. I liked the characters and their relationships. The story itself was a murder mystery, nothing graphic or over the top. I definitely will look for more in this series, and I hope the narrator is the same in the other books.

I jumped into this series with #23 “Dog Eat Dog” and have been listening to some of this author’s previous novels, which I have enjoyed.

I am pleased to say that I think the writing and intricacy of the plots just keeps getting better and better!! I LOVED LISTENING TO THIS NOVEL!!!

I wouldn’t call it a Christmas book but it does start on Thanksgiving and continues into the New Year.

Andy can’t seem to stay retired!! He is walking his dogs after a snowstorm and Tara, his much beloved Golden Retriever, spots something partially buried in the snow. IT TURNS OUT TO BE A HAND!! After the police and forensics are called in they discover that it is the Mayor of Paterson and a suspect is immediately arrested.

“The murder victim, Mayor Alex Oliva, has had an infamous relationship with the newspaper. Last year a young reporter published an expose, and Oliva had him fired for libel. Now, the young reporter – and prime suspect – is in need of a lawyer”.

The editor knows that his ex-reporter is innocent and begs Andy to take the case. Vince is a long time friend of Andy’s, so he is once again thrown into his lawyer mode.

This plot is multi-layered and involves local criminals and possibly ties to the mob.

I found the narration by Grover Gardner again to be stellar!! There are laugh out loud scenes but also tension as we don’t know how Andy will burrow through all of the incriminating evidence against Bobby Nash.

I love this cast of characters which always includes his wife Laurie, an ex-police officer and his all around muscle man, Marcus. Dogs are Andy’s passion and there are some fun scenes involving the dogs.

Andy never fails to make me laugh with his wit and humor. I enjoyed the bantering between lawyers during the courtroom scenes and Andy always pushes his opponent and the judge with his style of “lawyering” as he calls it!

I can highly recommend this audiobook as it will keep you interested and entertained with a great mystery to untangle!!!

I received this audiobook from the publisher and MacMillan audio, through NetGalley. It is set to publish on October 19, 2021.

REVIEW: Best In Snow by David Rosenfelt

This is my second Andy Carpenter Mystery and I have a feeling these books just keep getting better and better!

Best in Snow was another Lawyer Andy Carpenter reluctant case, (he's semi-retired and hates working) this time however, Andy and his beautiful golden retriever Tara happen to find the dead victim on a walk in the park. Of course this means that Andy has to become the defense lawyer to the poor schmuck that is accused of killing the victim. When I say poor I really mean it!  The suspect can't afford to pay Andy and of course being the great guy he is, Andy takes his case pro bono. There is just one problem, the victim is far from a poor schmuck - he's the Mayor!  So Andy sets out to win the unwinnable case. But someone doesn't want him to succeed and will try to stop him by any means necessary...

As is always the case with this series, there are adorable dogs doing adorable things, shady people that all seem guilty and lots of quirky characters that Andy interacts with. What keeps me reading these books is the sarcasm, wit and humor of Andy Carpenter. He has some of the best one liners you have ever heard and they are all delivered with droll perfection by narrator Grover Gardener. Listening to this series is like a mini vacation for my ears. I get to put on my sleuthing cap and laugh out loud to all of the dialogue.

If you are into light and cozy murder mysteries with plenty of humor and adorable dogs then I highly recommend this entertaing book as well as all of the Andy Carpenter mysteries.

Thanks @macmillan.audio and Netgalley for my review copy

Best in Snow by David Rosenfelt
Narrator, Grover Gardner
MacMillan Audio
To me, Grover Gardner is the voice of Andy Carpenter. These books are all very much of a muchness but I enjoy them anyway. Andy’s client is always saved and the conspiracy is revealed. The usual snarky humor is found throughout the story. It wasn’t really especially Christmasy but I thought it was sweet that Andy wants chocolate cherries for Christmas. That seems like an old fashioned Christmas thing to me. All told, a cute story and enjoyable as always.

The Andy Carpenter series is quickly becoming a go-to for me when in need of a "comfort" read.

Best in Snow is yet another cozier mystery following author David Rosenfelt's tried and true formula (which I'll refrain from detailing in case you're new to the series). This was my sixth Andy Carpenter book; I haven't found that my enjoyment's been diminished by not having read each and every one of them. The cases/mysteries stand alone, and while it's nice to recognize the regular cast of characters, it's by no means a requirement (each recurring character is identified and described).

The real highlight of this book for me was the usually cold Vince taking care of a golden retriever puppy. I could have done with a few more references or scenes of that!

I listened to Best in Snow and was pleased to find that the narrator is the same as previous books I've read in the series. This particular narrator really evokes Andy in my mind.

I am very sorry. I accidentally ended up in the audio book section, and since I have loved every book by this author, I clicked on it not realizing it wasn't a kindle book.

Best in Snow is the 24th (!!!) Andy Carpenter legal procedural mystery by David Rosenfelt. Due out 16th Oct 2021 from Macmillan on their Minotaur imprint, it's 320 pages and will be available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately; it makes it so easy to find information with the search function.

This is a holiday themed, dog filled, legal procedural murder mystery and very much in the vein of the other books in the series. It's an ensemble cast and it's always a lot of fun to see how much work office manager Edna can avoid, how long it'll take Andy to figure out exactly what's going on, and how many burgers, beers, and fries his friends Vince and Pete can get him to buy at their regular sports bar, Charlie's.

I can't think of many series which continue to be genuinely funny, genuinely warm, not derivative, and so cleverly plotted as the Carpenter mysteries. The author is on my must-read list and I really enjoyed this installment very much. It's exciting and tightly plotted but not too graphic. There is no sexual content (excepting the occasional sweetly goofy double entendres between Andy and his wife, Lorie). The language is mostly clean (PG rated). The characters are very well delineated at this point and it feels like they live and breathe. Although it's the 24th book in the series, it works perfectly well as a standalone and would make a good entry into the series as a whole.

The audiobook has a run time of 6 hours and 51 minutes and is expertly narrated by Grover Gardner who manages to juggle the various local accents and characters of all ages and both sexes without problems. I found myself grinning and laughing along several places with the wonderful narration. The read was definitely enhanced by the narrator. I especially loved his interpretation of Vince and Pete (Andy's best buddies). The sound and production quality are high throughout the recording.

Five stars for both the text and audiobook versions. All around fun read.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to review this audio.

This is the second book I have read in the lawyer Andy Carpenter series, and must say, its enjoyable and I was not disappointed. I like the way the author puts a focus on the dogs as supporting characters. Being from NJ I also like it that the story is set there.

One of Andy's dogs is playing in the snow and discovers a body belonging to the mayor of Patterson. NJ. The mayor did not have a good reason with the local paper and reporter, who is now the main suspect that Andy has to defend to solve.
