This was a super cute story of coming into your own and figuring out who you are and what you really want - as opposed to what you’re “supposed” to want. And in the end… well, the title says it all!

I was given an e-copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

She Gets the Girl by Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick is the perfect sapphic twist to a classic rom-com premise.

Despite being polar opposites, Alex and Molly need something from each other. Molly needs Alex’s dating expertise to help with impressing her longtime crush. Alex needs to help Molly to show her (ex-)girlfriend that she can be selfless. It doesn’t matter that they don’t like each other. Except, the more time they spend together, the more those feelings start to change. Until they’re both left wondering, which girl do they actually want?

This novel was a quick, enjoyable read. I just flew right through it! Alex and Molly were great characters to follow. The book was told in alternating perspectives, and both characters had unique voices and were easy to root for.

I also liked that this YA romance took place in university rather than high school. I enjoyed getting to see them navigate moving away from home and figuring out their own identities as they started their first year of university. It was such a cute, sweet story that came together perfectly. I would love for this book to be adapted into a movie. 💕

I loved this book sooo much. It was so cute. I loved Alex and Molly and how much they grew and developed. The pacing in this novel was so well done .

This story was easy to read but also had heartfelt and challenging moments ( content warnings down below!).

Pick this book up if you enjoy reading about:
-self discovery
-opposites attract/enemies to friends to more
-helping your friend “learn” how to date to get their “dream girl”
-YA/NA

I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend you pick it up!

I read this one a while ago but wanted to make sure I posted a review since I loved it so much. Anyone else behind on reviews?

CW: car accident/drunk driving, alcoholism, internalized racism, anxiety, toxic relationship

This was really cute! I really enjoyed this as both a YA romance, but also as a coming-of-age story. I really enjoyed the slow-burn friendship to something more throughout this story and how our two main protagonists got to know and love each other, faults and all.

Reading about young queer love is one of my greatest joys. I really enjoyed this YA/NA sapphic romance. It was very sweet. Knowing this was written by wives made it even more special. Alex and Molly were wonderful!!

Always here for any LGBTQ2+ representation in a book and being YA/new adult, that makes me love it even more. Alex helps Molly, who’s awkward, anxious and a little nerdy, “get the girl” she has a crush on. Inevitably, they fall for each other instead (slow burn trope). This was a great read. Would make a great movie! Love the dual POV, the gradual building of connection between the MCs, opposites attract. There is also a side plot with mixed race and alcoholism themes. I know of Rachael Lippincott from 5 Feet Apart so I knew I would enjoy this.

I will read ANYTHING that Rachael Lippincott writes & when I saw that she was writing a book with her wife, that entirely sealed the deal for me! I thought that this book was so cute. I loved both Molly & Alex & really liked that you got to see into both of their lives equally. It was the perfect slow burn & I loved getting to watch them grow into friends. The authors wrote the tough topics like alcoholism & abusive relationships with care & it made me REALLY feel for Alex. I hope to see more from them in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

What a cute read!!! Yes it took me forever to get to it but once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down! The main characters were all very likeable and relatable which I enjoyed! Molly was who I felt like in high school but Alex was who I acted like- fake it till you make it….right?

Reason for the 4 stars? The change in relationship between Molly and her mom… I get that she wants space and all but she was there through EVERYTHING for her, may have been nice if she realized that her mom was just missing her. She flipped the switch on her mom so quickly and I really didn’t like that. Second reason for the 4 stars… I didn’t like Cora one bit… she felt totally self centred and just out to get the next best thing… she was so blah and 2 dimensional.

Overall great book- pick up and read it if you’re looking for a quick cute romance.

ARC received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

It is a DELIGHT. I don't read YA generally, but I was absolutely smitten by this book. It's written by two queer women, so it unsurprisingly had incredibly realistic depictions of being a young queer woman in a straight world.

It's described as a queer "She's All That" and yeah, I can see it!

about a week ago, i finally read ’she gets the girl’ with my friend ellen for a mini book club and wow this was such a fun book to read together! the book is told in alternating pov between alex, a headstrong, flirty, edgy girl trying to prove to her musician girlfriend that she can stay committed to her while away at school, and molly, a socially awkward girl who can’t put two words together when trying to talk to long-time crush, cora. when alex and molly meet at a frat party before the first day of classes, the stars seem to align: alex can help molly get cora, and in doing so will prove that she can be true to her girlfriend & help a friend in the process. but maybe alex & molly have more in common with each other than meets the eye?

this book was CUTE and i read it so quickly because i just had to know how it would end! it was just so wholesome and i found myself laughing out loud on multiple occasions. it was like a candy of a book, just so sweet and great. highly recommend!

A beautiful enemies to lovers story. I loved Molly's character so much, she was so relatable and it's difficult to find shy characters/characters with social anxiety in books but this was done so well.

I loved She Gets the Girl so freaking much. It's adorable and reminds me of 90s teen romcoms, I got Drive Me Crazy vibes and I love it.

Molly and Alex were great characters, they felt real and unique. Their connection and chemistry was strong. They helped each other grow.

I knew where the story was going to end up but I enjoyed the story so much, it's more than I was hoping for.

Ah this was a lovely book! Molly and Alex are both freshmen at school and trying to break old habits and patterns in their behaviours. As their friendship blossoms they each become more of who they really are.

This adorable queer book is a gem! I was lucky enough to receive an e-arc, an alc, and a paper arc 😆 I had alllll the choice in the world 😅 I literally read this book in all three formats throughout my reading journey and it was hella fun! I absolutely loved it, it was light, but with some darker themes. It is truly a powerful story that digs deep within the characters' issues, especially Alex, and it's really beautiful to see it all unfold! I definitely recommend!
Also, the authors are married 🥺 Obviously that convinces anybody to read it riiiight???

This book was simply so amazing that I immediately went out and bought my own copy after. I suggested it to a book club I’m in, and now we’re reading it for July! Extremely well done, inclusive and an overall great read.

I had a huge smile on my face for most of this book. Alex and Molly have one of the most adorable romances I've ever read about and the fact that the authors are wives and this is somewhat based off of their own story is the cutest thing I've ever seen.
