A thrilling conclusion to the Fogg Lake trilogy, with a combination of steamy romance, compelling action and paranormal activity. Another great novel from Jayne Ann Krentz.

Lightning in a Mirror by Jayne Ann Krentz is third book in the Fogg Lake trilogy. Our newest heroine is Olivia LeClair. She is giving speed dating a try, but its not going well. One date tried to kill her and the next was believed to be dead. Harlan Rancourt is not dead but he does need help to find an old lab and Olivia is the only one who can help him.

I enjoyed this book. To be fair I enjoy most of Krentz's books. It was a fun fast read. While this could be read as a standalone know the world the author built along with her other pennames makes this book way more enjoyable.

4 stars for being an enjoyable read even if it was not a stand out. Thank you to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing Group, and Jayne Ann Krentz for the free copy. This was an honest review.

This is the perfect way to end the Fogg Lake trilogy. I love the Jayne always writes strong female characters, and Olivia is no exception. I also enjoyed the small crossover with the Arcane series through Harlan. It was finally nice to see exactly who the chameleon talent was that Fallon Jones calls on from time to time.

This is book 3 in the FOGG LAKE series. Olivia wants to meet someone special but her first experience at speed dating almost gets her killed. Then she meets Harlan who the world thought was dead. He wants her help finding the famous and deadly Vortex Lab. Her boss tells her to help Harlan in any way possible. For now, however, it's a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend because others are after the secrets of the long-lost lab. Unfortunately for Olivia, the one thing friend and foe have in common is that everyone is convinced she is the key. Her unique psychic talent is required to defuse the ticking time bomb that is Vortex. Classic Jayne Krentz fantasy. This is the final book to the series. Could be read as a stand alone but I'd recommend reading them in order. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have never read a book by Jayne Ann Krentz that I didn't enjoy and that includes this story. I love the beginning where Private Investigator, Olivia LeClair is trying speed dating and it isn't going well. One of men she meets is a sociopath who plans to murder her. Luckily Olivia has psychic senses that warn her of his intent. When she encounters Harlan Rancourt at one of these events he tells her that he needs her help locating the long-lost Vortex lab and in return he will help Olivia find her mother's killer. Lots of paranormal mystery, collaboration, and romance ensues making this a great read.

This was a satisfying conclusion to this series. I am really enjoying watching as the three worlds developed by the author are really starting to mix together. The cohesion that is shown shows what a master Krentz is. In this book, she left no threads dangling but room to add and continue the story, Sure I get a little confusing when they are talking about working paranormal energy but then I get confused when people explain how wireless charging works. so... I also liked how she solved a mystery with a simple, unrelated perpetrator. Oftentimes, the world completely revolves around the characters, and every bad thing that happens (even to side characters or people we never even meet) are because of the main characters. I loved how, when the mystery was solved it had nothing to do with 'us'. Krentz knows how to make books fun and exciting. She is always a must read

Jayne Ann Krentz is the author of fifty New York Times bestsellers, and Lightning in a Mirror is the final installment in the chilling Fogg Lake trilogy. It has all the hallmarks of a great Krentz romantic suspense read - fast moving plotlines, intriguing plot twists, and a central romantic storyline.

Olivia LeClair’s experiment with speed dating is not going well. First there was the nasty encounter with the date from hell who tried to murder her and now the mysterious Harlan Rancourt—long believed dead—sits down at her table and tells her she’s the only one who can help him locate the legendary Vortex lab.

Krentz creates her trademark complex paranormal world with smart, appealing multigenerational characters and a story which remains easy to follow, even though it follows a long family history.

Action, realism, danger, and intrigue, sizzling desire, and zippy dialogue…

You can hear Jayne Anne Krentz talk about her "Jayneverse" on The Joys of Binge Reading podcast.

I absolutely love any work by this author, even her other pen names. Her books do not disappoint and are always a fantastic read. In this final installment of the Fogg Lake trilogy, you have an exciting action-filled story full of murder attempts and unique psychic talents as Olivia and Harlan try to discover the long-lost lab from Bluestone. I really enjoyed Olivia's character and her interactions with Harlan. I highly recommend this book and hope you find it as hard to put down as I did. I received the ARC of this book for my honest review.

No matter the genre or pen name, I know I can depend on this author to give me a story I can't put down. Lightning in a Mirror is a terrific mixture of paranormal thriller, action/drama, and even some romance. Olivia is a great heroine, and she's easy to root for as the tension builds and the story gets more and more frantic. There's a lot going on with conspiracies, hidden labs, and figuring out who to trust, but Krentz does it up right, and brings it all together for a satisfying conclusion. This book brings the Fogg Lake Trilogy to a close, but it's not the end of these characters for me. Jayne Ann Krentz has created a fascinating world here with characters I wouldn't mind visiting from time to time. The pacing and action make this one of those books I can picture on the big screen, and if that were to happen, I'd be there on opening night, ready to take it all in again.

Lightning in a Mirror is the third novel in Jayne Ann Krentz's Fogg Lake series. It's also the last of the series. I may have made a bit of a mistake here, as I didn't realize that it was part of a series until after I had started reading. That being said, I didn't have much of a problem getting into the story and enjoying the novel. Unfortunately, I did totally spoil the ending of the series for myself. So don't pull a me.

Say what you will about the dating world right now; Olivia LeClair could never have anticipated how her night of speed dating would go. In her defense, nobody is expecting a near miss on their life followed by a job off (of sorts).

Now would be a good time to mention that Olivia works for a psychic investigation firm that doesn't want her to turn down this job opportunity. So once again, she's putting life, limb, and love on the line.

I'm absolutely kicking myself for not realizing that Lightning in a Mirror was the third novel in a trilogy until after it started. However, I am far too stubborn to put this book down, and so I spoiled the conclusion for myself.

All things considered, this was an entertaining ride. I liked Olivia and the psychic investigation agency she worked for. That made for a really fun premise (and, once again, made me lament skipping the first two books).

Jayne Ann Krentz wrote a novel that fans of the whole series would certainly enjoy and appreciate – while still allowing goofy newbies like myself to dive in and follow along. That's always an impressive talent, so I want to give credit where credit is due.

If you love blending mystery and thrillers with romantic subplots, then I have a feeling you're going to love the entire Fogg Lake series. So go check it out!

The final installment in the Fogg Lake trilogy - whether you've read the first two or not, if you enjoy a good mystery with paranormal undertones, you'll enjoy this book.

Lightning in the Mirror is book three in Jayne Ann Krentz's Fogg Lake series. While this book does reference characters and events in the previous Fogg Lake novels, it is capable of standing on its own. I love the two main characters. Both are a bit eccentric in their own ways and perfectly content to make the world accept them the way they are instead of trying to fit what the world expects. Krentz always leaves the reader wanting more and this book was no exception. While Lightning in a mirror is not breaking any new ground, there is comfort knowing what to expect from Krentz's latest novel, A must read for those who love Krentz's other works or for anyone who enjoys a good romantic suspense with mystery.

Lightning in a Mirror picks up a couple of weeks after the events of All the Colors of the Night, where we find Olivia LeClair surviving another murder attempt, the Speed Dating Killer. In a moment of intuition, Olivia uses the special camera that she bought at Swan’s Pawnshop and manages to disrupt the aura of the killer and give her time to call for help. Olivia has been working with a consulting agency to try to catch the killer by joining speed dating events, she just didn’t think they would be waiting for her in her building’s parking garage.

In Las Vegas, an invisible man walks up to the Foundation office. He is Harlan Rancourt, whose father used to be the previous president of the Foundation and who everyone thought died with him in the lab explosion. Harlan talks to Victor and Lucas, and tells them that he is the new director of the government agency which is the only client of the Foundation. He asks for them to help him set up a meeting with Olivia LeClair as he believes she is the key to finding the missing Vortex Lab. Harlan tells the men that he has evidence that Oliva is a descendant of the Oracle of the Vortex Lab.

In the following days, Oliva is back again on a speed dating event, to which she paid for the whole season’s events, and it can’t be reimbursed. While she keeps scaring away potential dates, one man sits on her table and answers her question, “If I disappeared tomorrow would you walk into hell to find me?” After the man informs her that his name is Harlan Rancourt, Olivia decides to end the event and get to work with him. They share a meal where he explains what he needs from her and that her mother might have been murdered instead of dying of natural causes as everyone thought.

While walking back to her apartment, they are chased by a man playing a song that lures Olivia to go back to him. Harlan is able to save her, and they now know that somebody else knows about Olivia’s potential connection to Vortex and is trying to kidnap her again.

Time is running out, Harlan and Olivia will need to solve the clues left from Olivia’s late grandmother and mother, and find the missing lab of Vortex, while they escape from an assassin who is also after Vortex.

It was nice to get Olivia’s story and see her go through her own adventures. After being kidnapped in the first book of the series, Olivia needed to find her power, and taking this client from the Foundation was the thing she needed. It was great to see professional Olivia do her best to work with Harlan while trying to find her mother’s killer.

When reading the previous book in the series, it was interesting every time the Foundation was mentioned and how it was seen by people in the community. While I liked that we got to learn a bit more about the Rancourt’s, the previous family that ran the Foundation, I was hoping to get a more exciting story of how the explosion that killed Harlan’s father had happened and why. But still, I like to learn about the things that Harlan did while hiding and the people he met.

When it comes to paranormal powers, this series is always fun to read as we meet characters with powers of the different types that exist in this world. Olivia is able to read the auras of people and as Harlan mentions she’s inclined to the Oracle gene, but most of all she is able to resonate with the crystal in the camera that she found. At the same time, Harlan’s power of illusion or hiding in plain sight was very interesting, such as being able to make others believe he is a normal person or has very low paranormal powers.

While they are considered sort of villains, I liked the scenes where Gwendolyn and her sister Eloisa make appearances. Even though we only saw a little of Eloisa I didn’t expect she would be that close in monitoring Olivia, and the underground rumors of Vortex. I hope that Jayne Ann Krentz writes more in the Fogg Lake world, and we get more stories of what the sisters are up to.

We get to go back to Fogg Lake and see how the town is doing with the Foundation team searching the caves near the town. At the same time, we see Harmony again and get another prophecy from her. Lucas and Victor make their appearances across the story, and I hope we get their get-together or a story of their own.If you’re a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz, then I recommend Lightning in a Mirror. In this story, the location of the Vortex lab is getting closer, and now everyone is on the move to get there first.

Olivia LeClair finds herself in the middle of the search for the mysterious Vortex lab when Harlan Rancourt shows up and insists, she’s the key to finding the location. She can’t imagine how she’d be helpful, but when Harlan claims to have a lead on the murder of her mother and that it’s all tied up in the search for Vortex, she agrees to help. Upon their first meeting it was obvious these two were a romance just waiting to happen.

Lightning in a Mirror is the third and final book in the Fogg Lake series, but I don’t think it’s completely necessary to read the previous books to enjoy it. To be honest, I forgot a lot of the details, but it still was a fun and entertaining read. Jayne Ann Krentz created an original, imaginative world. As a result of past covert government experiments/research the inhabitants of Fogg Lake ended up with paranormal powers and these powers have passed down through subsequent generations.

Olivia is a private investigator, mainly employed by The Foundation, an agency that sort of polices the paranormal world, using her psychic abilities to assist her. She grew up in Fogg Lake, a descendant of one of the Vortex lab workers, and so not only was she on Harlan’s radar, but also The Piper, a deranged murderer. Why does The Piper need her and why does Harlan want to find the Vortex lab so urgently? These are two of the mysteries at the heart of the story. It was a fun mixture of action, romance, and danger. I thought things wrapped up nicely, but also there’s a lot of threads that could be continued.

Oh man another great book from my favorite author Jayne Ann Krentz. This is the third in the trilogy about Fogg Lake and the Vortex labs and it was just so good. This one was about Olivia who was kidnapped for a short time in the first book of the trilogy and is part of an investigative firm with her best friend Catalina Stark who was the main character in the first book. Olivia and Harlan are after the vortex labs and Olivia’s grandmother might have worked there and took an artifact that only her family can use that will lead them to where the lab is. This was just a really great and fast read and I love the little crossover with the Arcane Society her other series and I can’t wait to read what happens next since 2 bad guys got away at the end of this with notebooks that will help them wreak havoc once they figure out how to make the weapons. The main villain for this story was stopped but jayne always leaves us with a random bad guy who gets away to be a problem for another team in another series.

Thanks to Berkley and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.

Sadly, this is the last in the trilogy of Fogg Lake. I always hate when Krentz ends one of her series/trilogies. I could read anything Krentz (as well as her other aliases) writes and not be satisfied with where she leaves it. I want more!!!!

In this story Olivia has an offer to help her find who murdered her mother and she decides to take it. Both Olivia and Harlan have abilities that only Krentz could make sound realistic. And they are after the Vortex Lab. The bad guys are even written well.

As I said there is never enough when it comes to Krentz and her books always leave you wanting more even if everything has been answered.

Another great read! Can’t wait for the next series.

Jayne Ann Krentz brings the Fogg Lake series to a satisfying conclusion in Lightning in a Mirror. Krentz ups the paranormal activity as the hunt for the legendary Vortex lab hits its climax.

Olivia LeClair is a private investigator and aura reader who is being targeted for her supposed oracle abilities. Harlan Rancourt has spent the past five years on the run after his father’s murder but is now back to find Vortex. The two are tasked by the leaders of the Foundation to work together and find the lost lab. It’s a straightforward quest made complex thanks to various factions, all with their own agendas and paranormal skills. I enjoyed diving further into the paranormal world Krentz has built over the course of the series. There are points at which this book feels a bit like paranormal Indiana Jones which is a lot of fun. Yet despite all the action I can’t quite say this is the most exciting of Krentz’s books – there was a lot of exposition which weighed things down at times.

Harlan and Olivia are at the center of Lightning in a Mirror and I really enjoyed them both. Olivia is warm, likeable, and straightforward; she’s got talent and she uses it for good. Harlan works more in the grey area due to his talent. He cloaks his skills and uses them to hunt monsters, but he sees himself as a potential monster as well. I absolutely adored Harlan and his lack of social skills. He and Olivia click from the start and just work well as a couple, romantically and on this quest. Their love story is understated but works thanks to their easy chemistry and entertaining interactions. And though the romance is really secondary to the overall story, it was my favorite part of the book.

I can’t talk much about the plot of Lightning in a Mirror without spoiling it, but suffice it to say Krentz wraps up the Fogg Lake trilogy and the Vortex lab storyline in a satisfying manner. She does, however, leave room for more stories in the same universe and I am curious to see where she goes with this. Also, if you’re a fan of Krentz’s Amanda Quick or Jayne Ann Castle books, there are mentions of the Arcane Society and the Jones family, so perhaps we’ll see more connections in future series to the “Jayneverse.”

Lightning in a Mirror
Jayne Ann Krentz

Book 3 in JAK’s Fogg Lake trilogy is freaking, fantastic, filled with so many psi and paranormal Krentzerisms that traverses her unique three Jaynerverses. This novel features Olivia from Lark and LeClair and a most unexpected hero in Harlan Rancourt and amazingly these two seemingly very different people fit together like a glove and it’s interesting how this talented author makes the romance magic happen. Readers have a full stable of terrific, good and evil-doers and will fall in love with this duo as they delve into danger trying to find this lost lab before catastrophe strikes. The narrative is a fast paced, action packed, fly on the wall account bringing readers right into the story, and experiencing for themselves all the different preternatural events. The plot is part continuation of the trilogy storyline but a big part unique to this novel. JAK fans will recognize names and organizations, like The Foundation and The Arcane Society and Vortex from her many writings as Jayne Ann Krentz, Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle and will be better served reading this in order.

Harlan Rancourt disappeared five years ago when his father died in a lab explosion. First he wanted revenge against, Victor Arganbright and Lucas Pine, the two men who took over The Foundation after his father’s death. But then being a chaos-talent he learned the truth and five years later finds himself knocking on their door to offer his help finding the lost Vortex lab, like Fogg Lake, one of the lost labs from the failed government Bluestone Project. He needs an oracle talent to help him find the lost lab, and he knows just the talent and knows just the right lure to get her to help him.

Olivia LeClair half of Lark & LeClair paranormal private investigations was expecting a man sent by Victor and Lucas from The Foundation who wanted her help with some undercover investigating into Vortex, one of the Bluestone lost labs that was long thought a myth. But she did not expect said man would just show up at her speed-dating event and give the right answer to her question, If I disappeared tomorrow would you walk into Hell to find me. Or that he would turn out to be the infamous, thought dead, Foundation heir apparent, Harlan Rancourt. Nor she did expect him to be such a strong and stable talent or so interesting. But what really threw her for a loop is when he announced she was the oracle talent who could help find Vortex and that her mother’s murder was tied to it.
Now they’ll both have to go into to hell to find the truth, and wonder who will come out alive?
