In this third and final installment of the Fogg Lake trilogy, psychic investigator Olivia LeClair tries to balance a personal life with her work, initially by trying a speed dating service that turns deadly. One of the men who turns up is Harlan Rancourt, and it is not clear whether he is friend or foe. Olivia has been working for the group known as Foundation who are a sort of supernatural police agency. Harlan’s late father was the head and his tenure was controversial to say the least. Harlan’s appearance is a surprise to Victor Arganbright, the current director; he is also more than a little shocked to not only meet Harlan after he was thought dead, but to have a tentative working relationship.

Olivia is thought to have a special talent that will help all the interested parties, including nefarious ones, discover the hidden Vortex lab which is quite likely to contain deadly secrets for paranormal super powers. Olivia grew up in the mysterious Fogg Lake community where everyone has enhanced psychic powers because of all the Bluestone project lab experiments gone wrong years before her birth. Several interested parties seem to think Olivia is the key to not only uncovering the lab, but wielding its potentially dreadful powers.

Oliva and Harlan are forced to work together to not only uncover the lab’s location, but find out who is after them with deadly intent. Harlan has some talents that he has kept hidden until now which can prove useful to Olivia and the Foundation, if they can trust him. In this story, all the elements come together where secrets are revealed and time is running out to defuse the catastrophic situation with the lost lab that some of the whackjob criminal element want to control for their own crazy-town agenda regardless of the consequences. As Shakespeare noted, “war makes for strange bedfellows,” and this no less true for Olivia and Harlan if they can survive all that is coming at them. Fans of this series will enjoy the action, adventure, and little romance filled conclusion.

Lightning in a Mirror by Jayne Ann Krentz is the 3rd and final book in her wonderful Fogg Lake series. Refresher: 40 years ago, in the small town of Fogg Lake, an explosion caused various paranormal effects on many of the residents; such as visions, auras and other unique abilities. The community kept to itself, not revealing anything about those strange effects; leaving the town bare of updated mechanics, such as Wi-Fi, computers, cell phones, as the dense fog blocked those signals.

Olivia LeClair, our heroine, is a private investigator with her best friend, Catalina; they both lived in Fogg Lake when they were younger; she has a psychic gift of reading aura’s. Olivia takes part of a speed dating, which originally failed when the person tried to kill her; but now she attends the event, and asks a weird question to each person she meets “If I disappeared tomorrow would you walk into to hell to find me? Only one person answered back correctly, saying he would walk into hell, because he has been there.

Harlan Rancourt, our hero, has been presumed dead, until he shows up years later, at The Foundation run by Victor Arganbright and Lucas Pine. After his father (the original founders of the Foundation) died in the explosion years ago, Harlan now returns to convince the Foundation to help him find an oracle, whom he feels will lead to discovering where the legendary Vortex Lab is. Arganbright agrees to work with him and suggests to use Olivia, who is one of the best. She is not sure that she can trust Harland, but agrees to work together, especially since he assures her that he will find her mother’s killer. They are both powerful talents in the psychic world, with her seeing his aura and knowing how dangerous it was, even with his ability to hide it, and she also being an excellent private investigator.

I loved Olivia, her smarts, savvy, confidence, fearlessness, as she made a fantastic heroine. I also like Harlan, and in a short time, we can see the chemistry between them heat up. I really got a kick out of the car scene, which was very funny.

What follows is an exciting, intense, action filled adventure, with some twists and turns. From start to finish, the story keeps us unable to put the book down, in this journey filled with romance, suspense and danger. Olivia and Harlan were a wonderful couple and made a great team; there were some excellent secondary characters, as well as evil villains. To tell too much more would be spoilers.

Lightning in a Mirror is an exciting, intense, suspenseful thriller, with supernatural elements. Jayne Ann Krentz gives us a wonderful conclusion to this series. If you enjoy suspense mysteries, great couple and a dose of supernatural, you should be reading this series.

what a great story continuation. It also left room for more storyline to follow. She can really put together a paranormal mystery like no one else. Read this and all before it. You wont be sorry!

A Paranormal Bond'esk read with a powerful bang.

I love the paranormal genre. It never disappoints since there is so much lore to pull from. Krantz has a wonderful writers voice that moves the story forward with gusto. I really enjoyed reading about Olivia as she works through her pain and the issues around her.

The concept of the oracle is really well done. The information about how they work is woven effortlessly throughout the story and not just thrown into your face like so many paranormal heavy books often do. It was a nice change from the norm.

At times, I did feel that the pace of the story was full blast with little time to breath, leaving me a little rundown at the end. Still, I enjoyed this read very much.

My review will be live on my blog Book Confessions on 1-11-22.

Here we are at the third and final book in the Fogg Lake Trilogy. This series has been wonderful. I've loved all the characters and each book brought more and more enjoyable to me.

You can't help love Olivia's and Harlan's relationship. How they are together is what has always drawn me to read Krentz's books. I just like how she writes people. Her couples are some of my favorites. I love how Olivia is trying to find love by doing dating apps. So many of us have been there. I also liked that she had so many dating issues. Makes her more real. I loved her one question she asked.

I always love her heroines but her heroes are the best. They are just so normal. Yes, they are smart, sexy, and usually well built but they are also usually socially awkward. I just love that about her books.

What I really enjoyed is that the romance enhanced the plot of the story. I didn't take a backseat to the suspense. I read romance for the character's relationship everything else is the gravy. I will say that this is the first time I kept thing a dust bunny was going to show up in this story. If you don't read her Jayne Castle then you don't know what I'm talking about and are missing out.

Lighting in a Mirror ties up the storyline very well. You finally know what's what and who was good and bad. I will say that at the end one of the chapters makes you feel like this series would have gone on but it's not. Maybe the next series will revolve around two of the characters in this one We'll have to wait and see.

All around I loved this story/trilogy and I'm so glad I was able to read and share my feeling with you. I will say that you should read the Fogg Lake series in order. It just works better that way. Yes, each story is a beginning and ending for the hero and heroine but the storyline keeps moving If you are looking for a comfort read this is the author for you.

No matter what name she writes under, she does not disappoint. This is another enjoyable book in a good series. Entertaining characters, witty repartee, interesting locations with non-stop action. Though this can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend reading the 1st two books in the series just to get background information. Fans of paranormal/urban fantasy on the light-side will enjoy this book/series.

I received this advance review copy from from NetGalley & this is my honest review.

Lightning in a Mirror is a solid romantic suspense/mystery with a lot of paranormal elements. While the first two in the Fogg Lake trilogy do not have to be read first, there are references to them and there are characters from those books who make appearances. As usual it is an enjoyable read, and has a satisfying conclusion that answers all the major questions.

Lightning in a Mirror” is the final instalment in Jayne Ann Krentz’s paranormal suspense series, “Fogg Lake”.
When Olivia LeClair meets Harlan Rancourt at a speed dating event, it does not go as planned. Harlan asks for Olivia’s help in finding the legendary Vortex labs, which houses secret paranormal information that could be dangerous in the wrong hands. Even though Olivia’s employers, a psychic investigation firm, believe that Harlan is after his legacy- the Foundation, and have hired her to find Harlan and kill him. Harlan promises Olivia that he knows who was behind the murder of her mother, so Olivia reluctantly agrees to help Harlan and seek revenge. As the two work together to find the mysterious Vortex labs and the dark forces behind it, Olivia’s supernatural powers become stronger and start to develop in ways she never expected.
“Lightning in a Mirror” has a paranormal “Jason Bourne” feel to it, full of secret agencies with dark secrets, desperate for power and willing to kill for it. As a psychic and presumed Oracle, Olivia uses her powers to read the auras of those around her, allowing her to understand their true intentions, whether they want her to or not. Harlan can disguise his true intentions (and his aura altogether) from others, making it difficult for Olivia to trust his plan. Then of course there’s Bluestone (the government foundation responsible for the development of the Vortex labs), and all of the evil that lies behind it.
Krentz ends this series with a powerful bang. Each page is full of tension and drama, and the paranormal element gave this novel an extra bit of intrigue. The story flows well, and the plot is chock full of twists and turns. Olivia and Harlan make a great pair, in more ways than one, and I rooted for them both from the start. Krentz’s other characters, both good and evil, are well-crafted, engaging the reader right from the very first page.
The ending of this novel, and the series itself, is full of Hollywood-movie action and suspense. I was left satisfied with the conclusion, and felt that Krentz had brought all of her characters full circle. She ended the novel, and the series itself, in exactly the right way. There were no unanswered questions, and each relationship had been formed and solidified.
It isn’t necessary to read the other Fogg Lake novels before reading this one, as the story is easy to follow and jump into, but it definitely is recommended for further background on the characters and the Bluestone Agency. For those unfamiliar with Krentz, she writes under various pseudonyms depending on the genre, but regardless of the name she uses- she can do no wrong. I loved the dark vibe of this novel, and I really hope Jayne Ann Krentz returns with another paranormal series very soon!

I really enjoyed this final installment of the Fog Lake/Olivia paranormal trilogy. I think in order to fully enjoy this book it’s best to start at the beginning. I’m still hoping we see more of Olivia in other books.

The is the third of the Fog Lake series. I enjoy Krentz’s paranormal series as she finds ways to connect her three paranormal timeline character families. Can’t wait to see the next connections.

Olivia LeClaire is striking out at a speed dating event because she’s taking a short cut and asking right away “would you walk through hell to find me”? But when Harlan Rancourt answers yes, she learns that he also has psychic abilities and needs her help to track down the mysterious vortex lab that had been experimenting enhancing paranormal abilities for military power.

A great finish to this paranormal romantic suspense trilogy. Jayne Anne Krentz knows how to hold the reader’s interest and keep building suspense.

Third book in the series best read in order. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the end! And what a fitting end to this trilogy. For those who haven't read the first two books, it is best to read those before picking this one up. Whilst Lightning in a Mirror can be read as a standalone, it is much better if there is background history to understand the citizens and place of Fogg Lake.

From the very beginning, I'm pulled into this story as Olivia kicks us off with an interesting dating event. I love how Olivia is straightforward and working to cull out the ones who won't meet her requirement at the get go. It is hilarious and honestly, if more people were direct in this manner, there would be less misunderstandings. With this first glimpse of Olivia, I know I'm going to like this character.

Harlan Rancourt! The one we've been wanting to see as his family is the big bad ugly! Turns out... Harlan is not his family. Specifically, he is not his father. This anti-hero comes from behind and completely blindsides everyone. I love it! He's the brooding alpha male who is patient and taciturn. What is that saying? Still waters run deep. This is Harlan.

Harlan and Olivia working together is a perfect match. Their interaction is sublime. I love how they play off of each other and their dry sense of humour does it for me. They don't mean to be funny, but they are.

I am a bit sad that this is the end. I'm still wondering where these "hot items" are coming from. I understand that the different scientists over the years are trying to discover where this is all coming from. I want to know more about "Here there be Monsters". I wonder what will come next in this universe. It seems it could go on forever like the X-files and not have a good conclusion. We will always be left wondering.

This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy mystical crystals, psychic powers, and vengeance for family members.

I always enjoy Jayne Ann Krentz and this book was no exception. It had the Nick and Nora Charles vibe that I associate with most of her books. This book was was low on heat (of the non-paranormal type) but the characters were engaging and the romance was satisfying. Though there was enough information for a reader unfamiliar with the series to enjoy the book, I would recommend they start a few books earlier in the series.

Olivia LeClair is a private investigator who uses her psychic gift - aura reading - to help with her cases. While her professional life is going well, her personal life is not. She is attempting to find a soul mate by taking part in speed dating which isn't going well. Her screening question: "If I disappeared tomorrow would you walk into hell to find me? - is scaring away all her potential dates. That is, until Harlan Rancourt sits across from her and answers: "If you disappeared I would walk into hell to find you. I know the way. I've been there."

Unfortunately, Harlan has an ulterior motive. He needs Olivia to help track down the Vortex Lab and he's convinced that Olivia is the oracle who can help him. Only Olivia vehemently denies being an oracle despite her heritage.

Luckily, Harlan is with her with a couple of other guys try to kidnap her because they, too, think she's an oracle. The two of them decide to team up because Harlan says that he can help her find out who murdered her mother along the way to the Vortex Lab.

Both Harlan and Olivia have powerful psychic talents and his are more than usually unusual. He is able to disguise his aura so that he blends in and, when he drops the disguise, his aura is very frightening. Olivia sees through his attempts to disguise his aura and isn't afraid of the real Harlan.

This is the third book in a trilogy and neatly ties up quite a few of the threads left dangling in the earlier books while still leaving some things unfinished. It was an exciting story filled with Krentz's usual banter and crisp dialog. I liked both Olivia and Harlan and thought they were just right for each other.

I liked the way the story pulled in threads from some of the Arcane Society books and connected those two fictional universes into one. Fans of Krentz (or Quick or Castle) will enjoy this exciting conclusion to a trilogy.

Olivia asks her speed dates if she disappeared would they go through fire to find her. They all think she is crazy until blend into the background Harlem comes to her table. ARC from NetGalley.

This final installment in the Fogg Lake trilogy finds Olivia at a dissatisfying speed dating event in Seattle. A man sits down across from her and answers the odd question she's been asking prospective dates, then introduces himself as the man who can help her find her mother's murderer. She doesn't know whether or not to trust Harlan, but they seem to have similar goals--finding the secret of the fabled lab where paranormal experiments were conducted, and many went awry. They decide to work together, since it is literally a matter of life and death. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advance copy.

Another good one from JAK - her writing is becoming more and more formulaic, and her dialogue is not very well described (i.e., mostly "she said," "he said"), but I like her ongoing paranormal worlds, in particular the meeting of the Arcane Society and the Foundation in this one.

Olivia LeClair's bought a speed dating package to find a serial killer and stop him. Afterwards, he returns because the package was nonrefundable. That's when a mysterious Harlan Rancourt sits down and tells her that he will help find her mother's killer if she helps him locate the legendary Vortex lab. The bad news is that Harlan is not the only one convinced that Olivia is the key to finding the lost lab.

Why I started this book: Krentz has long been a favorite author, because she reliably delivers smart heroines and well paced stories.

Why I finished it: Delightful end to the Fogg Lake trilogy. I am impressed at Krentz's ability to write multiple books a year that are consistently entertaining.

Another gripping story about the Foundation a secretive organization that had been in the hands of the Rancourt’s until the explosion that took the life of Stenson Rancourt and caused Harlan Rancourt, his son, to disappear.

Olivia LeClaire, half of a private investigation business Lark and LeClaire, was being stalked because the possibility of having a connection to a conspiracy called the Vortex that came from the Blue Stone Lab where some of Olivia’s family had worked.

The mystery of finding who was stalking Olivia and why, along with looking for the Vortex, made you want to keep reading to see what would happen next.

Speed dating is turning out to be a bust for Olivia Le Clair. First someone tries to murder her, and then Harlan Rancourt sits down at her table. He's not looking for love, though. He believes she has a special psychic ability that will help him locate and disarm a horrible weapon.

He's not the only only one who believes she's the key. Others want her to help them get the weapon -- and not to shut it down.

Can frenemies find common ground? Even love? Can Olivia and Harlan save the world? I'm a huge Jayne Ann Krentz fan, and this final installment in the Fogg Lake trilogy was happiness on every level. Highly recommended.
