Third in the Fog Island series and just getting better. Olivia and Harlan must hint down a monster before an old research lab dedicated to paranormal research falls into the wrong hands. Fun from beginning to end.

Jayne Ann Krentz always delivers. I enjoy all of her books. It's best to read them in order but if you miss one or two you will still enjoy the book..

Loved this addition to the Fogg Lake series. The paranormal is normal in the Jayneverse and the talents are all interesting. This is well-written and the characters come alive quickly. I hope this isn't the end and maybe we can see the Foundation and Jones and Jones and the Arcane Society working together soon.

4.5 Stars

Harlan Rancourt is a descendant of the founders of the Foundation, a secretive paranormal investigative firm. His father and grandfather ran it more like a criminal organization, and he wants no part of it. As the book begins, the lab has just exploded, and his father's corpse is carried out in a body bag, a victim of the explosion. Harlan disappears, trying to save his life and working under the assumption that whoever created the explosion will be after him next. Harlan is a bit antisocial; he just doesn't have the social skills that most men his age have mastered. However, he has other skills that turn out to be very important in this story. Olivia LeClair owns a crystal camera that ends up saving her life when a sociopath tries to kill her. Forces outside of her control have deemed that Olivia must be an Oracle, although she hasn't accepted that pronouncement yet. There are people who are counting on her Oracle skills and her ability to work with crystals to save their lives. They are all associated with a lab from the Bluestone Project that was supposedly destroyed years ago, but may not have been. These characters are all slowly dying, and are convinced that Oracle Olivia is the 'key' to finding a solution to their expected deaths.

This story can stand alone, but it is part of a series of interconnected stories about each of these paranormal labs from the past. There are tidbits of information imparted from prior books, and a few characters that appear who were introduced in prior books, but these snippets add detail and won't stop readers from enjoying this particular story. This book pulls readers in from the start and keeps them engaged. The pace moves along smartly, and the tension stays even throughout, until the last few chapters, when it increases a bit. Harlan is somewhat quirky, but that makes him more endearing as a protagonist. Olivia is a reluctant heroine, but her abilities and knowledge complement Harlan's perfectly. There is one unforgettable scene that happens one morning in her car that adds a cringeworthy part to the book that readers will enjoy. It comes at a perfect time and works as a foil to relieve some of the tension. Altogether, this is a very satisfying read!

This author has a vivid imagination and knows how to tell a story. She keeps minute details straight and is able to connect them to books that she wrote years ago! It is impressive. Somehow, she is able to tie the current threads of each work in progress to events in prior books that are set in the past (her Amanda Quick books), in the present (her Jayne Ann Krentz books), and in the future (her Jayne Castle books). She is either an organizational genius or has an encyclopedic mind. It doesn't matter which; nevertheless, it is amazing to observe, having read nearly all of all of her books, and witnessing it in practice.

LIGHTNING IN A MIRROR is (supposedly) the last book in Jayne Anne Krentz's 'Fogg Lake' series. This time around, it's Olivia LeClair's story, who has been a regular secondary character in the earlier books; and are introduced to Harlan Rancourt, son of the notorious former head of the Foundation; and a man long believed to be dead.

It was a good read. While the story wasn't particularly original, any fan of Krentz will love this latest installment, and will be pleased to revisit the mysterious Fogg Lake and its residents. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and it was a fast, easy read with no major complications.

Another enjoyable entry in a good series! Krentz stories seem to work best when there's a forgotten, lost place place to explore and this fits the bill. Fun characters and repartee, interesting locations and non-stop action. If you liked her paranormal/urban fantasy works, you'll like this one!

Like with all Jayne Ann Krentz novels you know you're going to get a whirlwind of a romantic suspense. How she comes up with her complex, interwoven plots I'll never know but I'm always impressed...no matter how many times I read her books.

Lightning in a Mirror is the final installment in Krentz's Fogg Lake series. It's an intense journey of psychic discovery, romance, and danger. One of my favorite things about Krentz heroes and heroines is that the heroines are powerful, successful, and independent and the heroes don't try to stifle that in any way. They're protective, sure, but they're not going to tell the heroine to stay home while they go off and solve the crime. They're going to utilize her powers and her talents and her skills without shame.

Harlan is a unique hero. I'd probably peg him somewhere on the autistic spectrum though it isn't specifically mentioned anywhere. He struggles with social cues and skills, attacks problems with a single-minded focus, and needs his conversations to be direct. His dual psychic talents make him amazing at his job...and at blending into the background. And once he sees Olivia he knows that she's the woman for him.

Olivia knows two things. One, she wants to adopt that junkyard cat and two, if Harlan calls her an oracle one more time she's going to slug him. As a cat-lover myself there's nothing I love more than a heroine who can appreciate a rough and tumble, unadoptable cat, so she won me over right away. As always, Krentz heroines are the best. They're smart and capable and don't take shit from anyone. They never sit back and wait to be rescued by a big, strong man. They're always aiding in their own defense.

Lightning in a Mirror reads a little quicker than some of the other books in this series (it felt shorter, but I'm not sure if it actually was) and the romance is a little lighter. The chemistry is there, of course, but the romantic scenes are fewer and farther between than I'm used to from Krentz. I still loved the connection the characters shared and I'm always impressed that these books are essentially insta-love romances, yet they never feel rushed somehow.

I'm really excited that this book wrapped up the Fogg Lake series, but still left it open in a way that tells me there's going to be many more books in the future. Nothing like the security that your favorite author isn't even close to done.

Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC!

JAK is forever an insta-buy for me, so when I got an advanced copy of the third book in the Fogg Lake series, I did a little happy dance in my seat.

We finally get Olivia LeClair's story, and are introduced to Harlan Rancourt, son of the notorious former head of the Foundation.

While the story wasn't anything unique, any fan of Krentz will love this latest installment, and will be pleased to revisit the mysterious Fogg Lake and its residents. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and it was a fast, easy read!

I received this ARC by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Krentz as usual blends suspense, a little bit of magic and romance to come up with a fast pace and enjoyable read with some fascinating characters. We once again are taken on a journey to Fogg Island and its inhabitants and the mysteries that it holds for Olivia and Harlen. The story opens up with Harlan Rancourt deciding to disappear after his father’s death especially since he didn’t want to take over the Foundation. Jump to 5 years later and Harlan turns up at the Foundation doors to talk to Victor Aganbright, who could possibly want to kill him because of who he is. Harlan tells Victor that he has heard rumors about the Vortex and the mysterious island that it is on. He needs to find the granddaughter of the Vortex’s original oracle. Olivia LeBlanc is that granddaughter and she has the Foundation as one of her customers in her PI agency. Harlan believes that Olivia has the secret of where to find this mysterious island and about the Vortex. Join Olivia and Harlan in these adventures as they try to find this mysterious island, the Vortex and through it all stay alive.

This is Ms Krentz at her best! A riveting tale, compelling characters and more in the series under her alternate nom de plumes all set the stage for another unforgettable tale. I couldn’t spot any formatting errors or mistakes, so kudos to her editorial team.

While I can't say the book was bad, it definitely wasn't anything special. It feels like the author is falling back on such similar tropes and storylines at this point. I felt like I could've described the main characters before the book even started. I think Krentz is a great writer...I'm just looking forward to when she tries something different.

It is always sad when a series ends, but I think there were some loose ends that could spin-off into a new series of paranormal romance. I liked the main characters and the suspense.
