I adore books about books and this one was an awesome look at the burgeoning paperback Industry in 1950s New York. A great blend of real and fictionalised characters and events. If you like the Cliff Janeaway novels by John Dunn, this will be right up your alley!

It opens with a townwide book burning. Jake has a history working navy intelligence in pacific theater, and that's how his leg got disastered. Now he is a paperback writer in NYC and becomes entangled with some real nasties. Amongst the plot there is relevant info on classic twentieth century writers and the development of the paperback book industry including McCarthyism and other extremist conspiracy. A little too close for comfort at this time. Riveting!
