In the Book WHEN YOU ARE MINE we follow Philomena, a cop in England that finds herself investigating a crime that involves one of the most decorated detectives in the area. When she agrees to help the victim of a recent crime she finds herself falling down a rabbit-hole of versions of truth that she begins to question. When the victim befriends her and starts invading her life philomena must decide if she's being truthful or as history might have it, repeating a pattern of mental health that can put Phil in danger. Philomena must learn to trust, come to terms with her fathers sordid past, and accept his help and try to prove that the police are not as squeaky-clean as one might think.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced murder-mystery thriller set in England. I also really liked that there were so many characters involved that it kept me guessing what was going to happen next. I did feel frustrated a bit with Philomena and not being able to see the truth right in front of her- even when others were very clearly pointing it out.

Read this if you like fast-paced books with lots of twists and strong female protagonists.

When you are mine is a stand alone thriller told from a police officers point of view. I really enjoyed this twisty thriller that focuses on domestic abuse, rape, murder and police procedures. Philomena McCarthy is a black belt In karate the daughter of Eddie Mccarthy and a police officer in London. When Phil and her partner go on a domestic abuse call things get ugly fast.

Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this digital arc. All opinions are my own.

Philomena McCarthy, a London police officer, and her partner respond to a domestic violence call. The victim, who has been assaulted, is Tempe Brown. The abuser, Darren Goodall, who is a married man and also a decorated Scotland Yard detective. Darren thinks he is above the law tries to assault Philomena but she stops him and arrests him. Darren's allies at the station end up making the case go away but not before turning it against Philomena. Now Philomena is fighting back and looking into everything on Darren.

A wonderfully written and exciting thriller!

I saw so many rave reviews over When You Are Mine by Michael Robotham that I went into it really excited to see what it was all about. Philomena (Phil) is a good female lead and, in some respects, she is pretty badass, especially when it comes to her karate and defense skills. She did make some really stupid decisions in regard to her career that I definitely questioned, so I would describe her as a flawed but likable character. Even though Phil is a police officer, this isn't a police procedural, and it is a mix of psychological thriller and crime fiction with a serious stalker vibe. I didn't find the story to be as suspenseful as I was expecting, but there is enough going on that you don't want to put it down.

I am really glad that I decided to switch over to the audiobook which is narrated by Katy Sobey because the majority of the book felt pretty slow to me. If I would have been reading it probably would have taken me quite a while, but I basically flew through the audio. Sobey was a brilliant choice for Phil, and I loved listening to her narrate. There is a domestic violence aspect that broke my heart and rape is a trigger as well although Robotham doesn't go into detail for either making it more on the mild side. It still made this a pretty dark storyline though, and there were some surprises that I didn't see coming. The end ended up giving me chills, and I also loved the mysterious quality of Phil's dad. I thoroughly enjoyed When You Are Mine, and if you like stalker fiction and slow burns I highly recommend checking it out!

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

When you are mine
Mina is a policer officer who has an empathetic heart towards women in domestic violence relationships. After “rescuing” a woman in this situation, there is a price to pay.

There was accurate portrayal of domestic violence and stigma.
Mina is a go-getter, never fearing disapproval or being told no.
The ending was sad, but left you feeling with profound understanding of the justice system.

You would like this if you like: domestic thrillers, accurate portrayal domestic violence, stalking, mafia, corrupt police/justice system.

Do you like books that involve a bad guy who is arrogant and want to see him taken down? Let that bad guy also be a respected officer. This was another hit for me by Robotham!

Philomena McCarthy, a police officer, called to a domestic dispute ends up in a bit of a situation with a highly respected officer. Suspecting him of being a habitual abuser, she looks into him but the more she digs, the more attempts are made to keep her silent. Did I mention her dad is a crime boss? So interesting. Police corruption, abuse and some "Single White Female" vibes had me quickly turning the pages. I really liked Philomena as a protagonist and hope to see more of her in future books.

This thriller was well paced, twisty and suspenseful. Robotham is one of my "go to" authors and I eagerly await his next book. I recommend this to all thriller fans!

A big thank you to Scribner and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!

This book was like a stir fry made up of ingredients from some of my favorite crime and suspense novel tropes and plot devices: organized crime, dirty cops, that creepy “single white female” sort-of vibe, women fighting the system, grey morality, and a main character rowing against the current as hard as they can because no one’s going to tell them they can’t.

I’m not going to lie: this book starts out a little bit slow. It took me a little while to lean into it, but once I did, I really couldn’t put it down. It seemed to gain speed the way a train does: It pulls out of the station, fighting inertia to gain momentum as it tugs the cars behind it, but once it gains that momentum it just keeps huffing and puffing along and it doesn’t stop until that sucker pulls right into the next station, fighting the inertia coming behind it that wants to keep it moving. This book, once it moves, moves full steam ahead and doesn’t stop until the end of the line.

And none of our characters get any breaks, either. Especially not Philomena McCarthy, our protagonist. Tugged every which way by family, love, job, and her own conscience, Phil doesn’t seem to get a moment of rest before it seems like another penny drops and she’s spun away again.

I’m not often surprised by most suspense and thriller novels. I say that in many of my reviews in this genre. And, indeed, I did spend a lot of time reading this book wanting to yell at Phil because some things seemed so obvious to me (and I was right on the majority of them), but I didn’t see the final turn coming. And it made me so happy. I do love it when this genre of book manages to give me a kick like that.

I really did enjoy this book a whole lot. A great standalone suspense thriller.

What an interesting web of a plot. Philomena is a police officer that becomes obsessed with another officer she suspects of domestic abuse. But it seems he is a decorated officer and no one in the department believes her.. Throw in her father is a Tony Soprano type crime boss and you’ll be wondering who to trust.

While I liked Phil, there were many moments where she frustrated me with her choices. Now don’t get me wrong, I connected and rooted for her, but thought as a cop she would have more instinct no how to look into such a delicate matter. And the people she believes as credible throughout her investigation, had me cringing.

But with all of that, I read the book in just a few days and couldn't wait to find out how Phil would get out of this mess. I never felt the book slowed in pace and was impressed that the multiple storylines were wrapped up including an unexpected twist. I’m interested in seeing if a series might develop for Phi.

Robotham is hands down one of my favorite authors and this book is another reason why! It’s gripping, complex and and every character is very well developed. This is an intense crime thriller written only like Robotham does, if you haven’t read him yet, what are you waiting for?

So this book was not for me. I felt like the Story was dragging. I got about 100 pages in and decided to DNF this one.
I just did not like the way the story was going. I felt like it was turning into like a Stalker book which is not for me,

Internationally acclaimed, best-selling Australian author Michael Robotham is back with a stand-alone suspense novel, “When You Are Mine.” This new novel skillfully joins thriller and police procedural to deliver one heck of a page-turner!

Constable Philomena (Phil) McCarthy is a dedicated police officer who has dealt with her share of problems over the span of her short career due to sexism and cronyism, not to mention that she’s the daughter of a notorious crime boss. When she gets sent on a domestic dispute call involving decorated hero cop Darren Goodall, Phil becomes tangled in a web of personal and professional corruption that threatens her career, her relationships, and even her life.

While Phil digs deeper into Goodall’s background, she finds herself immersed in a deliciously “Single White Female”-esque, friendship with Goodall’s mistress. It becomes clear that none of the characters are what they seem, and some who claim to love Phil are also intent on doing her harm. I loved Phil’s character; her strength, heart, and sense of morality are very appealing. It did drive me a little crazy that Phil made so many bad decisions in her pursuit of justice – she had an astounding lack of instincts and poor judgment of character for a police officer – but overall this novel is an engrossing and entertaining read!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Scribner for providing me an advance copy of this book.

OMG & WOW are the two things to describe this book!!!!!!!!!!!! This is, in my opinion, Michael Robotham's best book yet. This book is an amazing, twisty, tale of friendships and how twisted they can be if you make friends with the wrong kind of people. Fatal Attraction has nothing on this book!!!!!!! I highly recommend this book to every thriller fan.

This book is bananas. Don't start this at night unless you plan not to sleep at all because once you start this book all hope is lost because no one is prying this book out of your hands. Taunt and masterful. Impossible to put down. Happy reading!

4.5 stars

In writing this intense stand-alone suspense novel, Michael Robotham is definitely at the top of his game! The story is a crackling good police procedural involving domestic abuse and police corruption, as well as a look at darker themes of stalking, toxic relationships and complicated family dynamics.
The narrative is told from first person POV by the female protagonist. Philomena McCarthy is a policewoman who, in her short career, has constantly battled the nonsupport of her fellow officers, who judge her as the daughter of notorious crime boss Ed McCarthy. Phil is a sympathetic heroine who values justice and truth above cronyism. When she tries to investigate a domestic violence incident, she is thrown into a quagmire of conflict with her values, her morals, and her long-standing family drama. As she works her way through the lies and secrets, she becomes more involved in the whole dynamic of domestic abuse, musing, “Why is it that men have pride, but women have shame?” Trying to figure out the whodunit, while sorting out other personal relationships, including her psychologically disturbed victim “friend”, Phil is thrown into a variety of dangerous situations and tense scenes.
I really liked Phil’s character, and cheered her on as her life unravels and she struggles to make it right again. The author imbues her with heart and feelings, and a morality that she reflects “is affected and altered by the decisions we make and don’t make, by compassion, empathy, forgiveness.” She has an “everywoman” vibe, and so she makes mistakes but alternately rises to moments of true selfless heroism.
This thriller is well-paced and edgy, displaying slow-building dramatic tension to its conclusion. I highly recommend this suspenseful police procedural and hope that there will more books featuring Philomena McCarthy in the future!

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the ARC. This is my honest opinion.

Police officer Philomena McCarthy has tried to distance herself from her childhood as the daughter of a mob boss. When she is called out to a domestic dispute and discovers the abuser is a high-ranking detective, she gets overly involved with the victim and is caught up in a tangled mess of police corruption and toxic friendship that threatens to ruin her life.

I was sucked into the story immediately and binge-read this in a day, but Philomena makes SO MANY (SO SO SO MANY) absolutely dumb decisions and digs herself deeper and deeper into trouble at every turn that I ended up finding her extremely stupid and irritating. The mobster dad and uncles were interesting, and I liked watching Phil walk the line between two equally corrupt worlds, but I was ultimately disappointed in how the story turned out. I’d definitely read another book by Robotham, but I’m hoping for a smarter main character next time around.

This is the story of a woman who absolutely WILL NOT leave well enough alone. It's the Captain America reference meme, except she's fighting people off who tell her not to get involved. Overall, I appreciated what Robotham is trying to do here, but I just didn't like this one as much as his previous ones.

This is my first Michael Robotham novel and I think I may need to get some of his backlist books!

There is a lot going on in this book. Several plot lines, a main character who continues to do the wrong decision (wanted to slap her) , a pretty evil villain and some heavy topics. They are handled with care but are also done lightly making this more of a “popcorn” read. With all that being said, I kept reading needing to see the end and to make sure justice was served. So I will give it that.

I loved the whole aspect of a female police officer who fights to stand tall and do her job correctly even though she was repeatedly beaten down, harassed and wronged. Phil was strong (even though she pissed me off 😳) I liked her. Super excited to go back and read some more Robotham!

Thank you Netgalley for my copy in exchange for my review!

DNF at 30%. I really enjoyed the other Robotham books I’ve read and the synopsis drew me in but unfortunately this one isn’t working for me. A third of the way into the story and I’m not drawn in yet to care about what’s going to happen so I’m going to stop here. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

Michael Robotham does it again with a twisty psychological crime thriller that had me engaged until the very end when I thought – “Well, I didn’t see that coming!” When You are Mine is set in current times London with the young and ambitious police constable, Philomena McCarthy, at the forefront. After responding to a domestic call, she encounters the victim, Tempe Brown, and her lover Darren Goodall. Tempe refuses to press charges or admit that Darren hit her and Phil finds out that Darren is a decorated Scotland Yard detective who no one is willing to go up against. In an effort to stop his abuse, she becomes involved with both his wife and mistress while he threatens to take her down. She may lose the job she fought to get and her personal and professional reputation at the hands of this monster.

Thank you NetGalley and Scribner for the opportunity to read and review this book to exchange for an honest review.
