The premise of this book is what drew me in. It was a cute read. Fast paced, fun and I enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away.

Omg, what a great book! Haven't read anything this good in a while. Been stuck in a complete rut where I start a book, and it's just not interesting enough to keep reading, although it should be. But not this one! Read it up fast. It's both serious and playful enough to be a great story, and it keeps the drama going, cause it's about a reality show, kind of.

I've read Bethany Mangle's stuff before and I can't wait to read some more if it comes out, cause it's all been great. I've also read Prepped and LOVED it.

I thank the author and publisher for giving me a free copy of the ebook in exchange to my honest review. This has not affected my opinion.

All the Right Reasons was definitely a very unique contemporary from all that I've read so far. This book was a lot of fun! Cara has a very distinct voice, and I liked following her point-of-view throughout the story. The show itself was pretty interesting. If you’re looking for a family-oriented rom-com with a fun premise, you definitely pick up All the Right Reasons!

This book in 3 words: Funny. Relevant. Cute.

Cara and her mother, Julia, are thrown into a reality tv show when Cara accidentally posts a video of them trashing the toxic father/ex-husband. On Second Chance Romance, Cara and Julia are trying to find her mother a match but will things go as planned?

Kudos to the author for putting a spin on the reality TV trope (giving both Cara and Julia a key piece in finding a match). However, the name "Second Chance Romance" is played out and we need something new. A bit of a sidebar, but worth mentioning.

This is an easy read; I breezed through it over a 2-day period. I found the storyline interesting and captivating enough to want to find out what would come next. With that being said, I didn't love it and I don't think this story was for me.

I had a difficult time trying to decipher the target audience. I also didn't really buy that Cara was going to be 18 years old -- her voice was juvenile and simple. It felt like the author tried throwing in some colorful language to "Age" Cara but it didn't land for me.

The relationship between Cara and her mother felt like there's not a chance it could happen like it did. It didn't land for me. This may play into the voice issue, but it felt like Julia would take her almost adult daughter much more seriously than she did. This was really hard for me to get over and get to the rest of the book.
I did like the twist and the ending but it fell a little flat, execution wise.

This book was cute! It was fun and i liked the characters. I found myself not wanting to put it down. This book focused a lot on family and i really loved that.

I could not finish this book. It was too focused on the toxic relationship with the mother and having mother issues myself I was triggered. I was expecting a sweet love story between two young people, but I got a toxic mother/daughter relationship instead.

All the Right Reasons is a debut YA contemporary following Cara and her mother, Julia. When a video diary of them bad mouthing Cara's father (that was supposed to be private) goes viral, the pair are invited to be the stars of a new reality dating show for single parent families. When Julia starts to grow attached to a man Cara can't stand, and Cara herself starts to develop feelings for another contestant's kid, she knows she'll have a hard time agreeing with her mother on which pairs to keep around and which ones will be eliminated from the show.

I think the strongest aspect of this book was Cara's relationship with her mother. After a nasty divorce, they've had to depend on each other to work against everyone who tried to bring them down. They don't have much money, and they're forced to interact with Julia's ex-husband because the judge ruled partial split custody and they own a gym together. Still, Cara wants her mother to be happy and not overworked, and Julia tries to be the best parent to her daughter. They clash and fight and say things they don't mean in the heat of the moment, and it was just great to see that on page. I also loved the representation of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a hereditary disorder affecting the body's connective tissues. Connor, one of the suitor's sons, has EDS, and there are good conversations and moments in which he doesn't want to feel "coddled" because he is disabled. Personally I wish there was more moments with Connor and Sam (one of the assitants on the show) but I understand there needed to be drama with other contestants (it is reality T.V. after all). Overall I enjoyed my time reading this - it wasn't my favorite but it was cute and fast-paced when the action finally took off, and I think it's a great choice for any teen to pick up.

What can I say? I'm extremely predictable. You compare something to Gilmore girls and it's like putting a Snickers bar underneath the cardboard box propped up with a stick. I'm going to crawl underneath and investigate. I've also found over the last year that I enjoy books about reality dating shows, (examples:the Charm Offensive & If the Shoe Fits). This is funny cuz I don't enjoy reality dating shows in reality but apparently I enjoy books about them I'm happy to report that all the right reasons continues to prove that I enjoy this genre. I'm also admit that I get why Gilmore girls was referenced because the mother daughter relationship was arguably the most important relationship in the book but that's pretty much the extent of the Gilmore girls vibes to me but it was enough to get me in the door so I'm not going to complain. This was one of those books that as soon as I heard about it I was instantly interested & delighted to have a chance to be part of this tour. This book definitely subverted my expectations & was more complex than I expected. That's a compliment! It's a great Valentine and Galentine read with a couple romance threads but also a strong foundation in platonic & familial relationships. I was already inclined to like it but I think if you're on the fence, give it a shot & allow it to surprise you. I'm very glad I went on this ride with Cara & her wonderful mom. Rick can step on a Lego. 🤣

I’ve recently found that I haven’t enjoyed YA romance as much as I used to. However, All the Right Reasons was definitely an exception to this - as the romance for the main character was definitely secondary to the rest of the story.

When Cara and her mom are cast for a dating reality show, they go into the show knowing there’s a payout on the other end. What they don’t expect is producers meddling in budding relationships.

I really enjoyed reading this book - although a lot of the conflicts could easily have been solved with a little communication. The budding relationship between Cara and Connor was super sweet and honest, and seeing how Cara’s mom, Julia, was considering her potential suitors.

I did really like the ending. Although I did kind of guess the surprise twist, I still swooned and couldn’t read it fast enough.

I received an ARC from the publisher, but my review is based on the final version. All opinions are my own.
I feel like I was steered wrong with the marketing of All the Right Reasons, although it’s becoming a common phenomenon these days, so I’m not sure why I’m surprised. I don’t often mind “romcoms” with more focus on the MC and her personal issues, but I just wasn’t feeling this one in particular.
I did feel for Cara, as she’s dealing with the fact her dad left her mom for another woman, and now she’s going on this dating show with her mom to help her mom find someone else. I really appreciate that Cara has her mom’s best interests at heart, even if the mom is more self-involved, to the point of taking her daughter’s needs for granted. I did appreciate the growth on her part and in their relationship, but it took a while to get there.
I also felt like some of the attempts to forge romantic intimacy fell flat. Cara says she’s developing feelings for Connor, but I never felt that. I did appreciate that he described what it’s like to live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, but I just never had a reason to care for him as a viable love interest for Cara. And despite the fact that it’s a reality dating show, there’s not much in the way of capturing the tension among the other participants either, although that could be chalked up to that being something better explored from the mom’s perspective.
And this book was just really inconsistent, pacing wise. The first half was really slow, and while the second half picked up, I found my investment continued to flag, even as I could see I was getting closer to the end.
I didn’t hate this, and this story does have a lot of potential. I would advise anyone interested to not go in expecting a heavy romance focus, and instead expect more of an emphasis on the mother-daughter relationship.

All the Right Reasons by Bethany Mangle is a young adult contemporary romance. When I read the blurb I was immediately interested in reading this. This was an entertaining read about finding love in the most unexpected places.

I loved the reality dating show concept and the drama it added to the book. The mother/daughter relationship often portrayed in fiction isn’t very realistic, but in this book it was. The author showed that despite their disagreements they still had a great relationship. This definitely plays a part in the book.

One of my favorite parts of this book is the disability representation. I’ve read books where the main character is disabled, but in All the Right Reasons this character is the love interest. I would have read this book for that reason alone if I knew it before going into the book.

This was a cute, heartwarming, and relatable book with drama, laughs, and romance.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The premise of All the right reasons was what first drew me to it, and i'm glad to say that the story did not disappoint me. It felt very original and honest, and it helped take my mind off reality for a while.

All the Right Reasons is a story that focuses on family. We follow Cara and her mother as they experience various ups and downs that come with life. Also, the cover is really pretty!

I liked how the book seemed to focus more on family, with Cara and her mom dealing with everything that has happened. Plus, a little extra drama from a reality tv show. Yes, we have a romance with our main character in the story, but this book at its heart is about growing through the hardships we face.

Overall, I liked the book and was surprised by it. I went into the story expecting a bigger focus on the romance and was surprised to see it focused more on family. Bethany Mangle definitely crafts family relationships well, and it is present throughout the story with Cara trying to help her mom.

Thank you to Margaret K. McElderry Books (Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing) and NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Last year I had the pleasure of reading Bethany Mangle’s book PREPPED and I absolutely loved it! Bethany was incredibly kind and reached out to me about her new release, ALL THE RIGHT REASONS. I knew I was in when I read that the book was being called The Bachelor meets Gilmore Girls. This book definitely lives up to those comparisons with the reality dating show setting and the focus on a mother/daughter relationship.

I absolutely loved Cara, her mom, and the cast of contestants trying to win their hearts. This book has such a fun premise, but it also makes sure to keep the focus on family and the relationships we have with those around us. There is so much relatable content on parental relationships, friendships, and the emotional impact both have, that there is something for everyone to bond over.I would be lying if I didn’t say my heart wasn’t melting by the end of this story! I couldn’t stop cheering for what I was hoping would be the ending, which it did end up being, but 10x better! Bethany Mangle is firmly on my auto-read list and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

A huge thank you to Bethany for sending me a gifted copy of her book!

This book really had my attention in the first Half, however the plot and writing style quickly got redundant, and I started losing focus.

Where the novel lost me plot-wise in the second half was with the minimal romance between the main character and Connor, which should've had way more screen time in my humble opinion, and the main characters relationship with her mom. The premise of the story is definitely built more as a mother-daughter novel with a romance subplot with Connor as well as, of course, the reality show setting.

The mother-daughter relationship in this book was a really hard sell to me because the mom just... wasn't good to her daughter in my opinion. She never took her daughter seriously, and with something as big as a future spouse don't you think she should!!? Not to mention the fact that the mother would've never gotten the opportunity to be on the show had it not been for her daughter, and it was framed as a family thing for them to do without their horrible father, only for the mother to completely ignore her once they got there.

I also wish Connor got way more screen time: the romance between him and the main character was the most likable part of the plot, and there wasn't a ton of content on that front.

Perhaps I am just aging out of YA. Or perhaps this YA book just isn't exceptional enough to keep my attention the same way Very Good YA still can. But I just wanted more!!

3 stars: this book was still an entertaining and short read, and I did like parts of it.

very fun read, I loved the whole concept and while I appreciated the wholesomeness with connor and cara i'm kinda bummed as well because this would have been such a great opportunity for ANGST and DRAMA and BACKSTABBING BETRAYAL because yk REALITY TV!!!! call me basic but i would have eaten that right up also SAAAAMM IS THE BEST, HIM AND IAN ARE JUST *chefskiss* fav characters ever, ohohoh and not to forget, I really really appreciated how osteogenesis imperfecta was included here, it's really quite rare to see it in a book which i hadn't realised until someone pointed out to me that it was really nice to see themselves represented here! so i loved that, and i really enjoyed this book, it was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022

I really enjoyed this book! I thought the premise of the book was really cute and flew through it in no time!

Starting All the Right Reasons I was sucked in right away. I mean Cara ranted to her online journal and woke up the next morning to find out the post went viral. That’s a pretty intense way to start a book. The emotions she was feeling when it came to her parents’ divorce and relationship with her father really jumped off the page. I felt that the author really portrayed that way. I also have to say I can relate to Cara when it comes to the relationship to her mother, because I’m the same way with mine. It was really interesting to read.

I love the whole reality TV show vibe and after the first few chapters I was really excited for Cara and her mother to get this opportunity. It felt like they really deserved a break. It was interesting to get a little behind the scenes idea of what happens during a show like that and how it’s filmed. There were quite a few laugh out loud moments throughout the book that had to do with this aspect of the story. I loved that the author did kind of make us want to see certain characters go like you do when actually watching a show like that.

For me it did fall a bit flat though. I mean we get the whole process, but it felt like everything stayed just a bit too much on the surface. I missed seeing more interaction with the candidates and maybe even more of Cara and her mother talking about them. Because when things started getting intense and they weren’t really talking it just felt like it was too much if that makes sense? I just needed a bit more depth. In all honesty, that probably would’ve happened if this book was just a bit longer. Also, Cara and Connor’s romance just felt a bit too rushed and maybe forced? I mean the setting everything takes place in I understand why, but I think I would’ve appreciated it more if it was left a bit more open. And I needed just a few more moments between Cara and her mother. With them being so close it felt weird not getting much of them together.

Besides that All the Right Reasons was a fast and fun book to read. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments, times I was mad at the characters, and times that I really loved that. My favorite character of all was Sam. He was just so sweet and just wanted the show to go well for these two people. I kind of knew how this book was going to play out after a few chapters, but it was still a lot of fun. If you’re looking for a fun contemporary and enjoy reality TV I definitely suggest giving All the Right Reasons a chance.

I was really excited to read this one because I thought the concept behind it was really interesting and I’ve read a few reality dating books at this point and enjoyed them all so I was interested in seeing how this compared with the twist the story offered. To be honest I wasn’t aware just how fresh her parents divorce was and seeing the family in counseling and all the fresh emotions was a lot. My parents just recently got divorced so it hit harder than I realized it would. I think the book did a really great job at showing how divorce effects everyone involved and how the process of the parents moving on can directly effect the child as well.

If you like reality dating I would recommend giving this one a try.
