With a love for Greek mythology, this book about the retelling of Jason and the Golden Fleece immediately piqued my interest. However I think this took a lot of what I find interesting in those stories (the mythology) and changed it into a more political and 'realistic' story. We get a lot of descriptions, good development in Jason and his buddies, but I just missed that mythological element and as a result I felt bored w lot of the time. I also thought that this could easily have been edited down to a snappier, faster paced novel too.

Good outline and character development, but this just felt like something was missing.

Thank you Netgalley, author, and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this e-arc.

I wanted to read this mostly because of the cool cover.

Knowles gives un a re-telling of the Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts but has taken the decision to remove most of the myth that actually – in my opinion – makes it interesting and I did find it quite boring. I want my Greek myth superheroes, okay!

Something positive is, however, that Knowles is good at descriptions.
I didn’t feel engaged or interested and I think one of the few reasons why I finished it is because I don’t want to DNF the books I get to read via requesting them over at Netgalley.

All in all - I should get better reading the actual descriptions of the books I request.

Mark Knowles has taken the myth of Jason and the Argonauts and given it a treatment akin to what Mary Renault did to Theseus in her historical fiction classic, "The King Must Die" Almost all of the fantastical elements have been stripped out except for a few select traces, and everything else has been restructured to try and be as realistic and probable as possible. But although the story is free of monsters, beasts, and demigods with superhuman abilities, Knowles makes very good work of the remaining story and its large cast of characters. Through a wide array of creative choices and some focused fleshing out, he has successfully turned the core legend into an entertaining romp of a read.
