Tempting the Devil by Morgan James is book 5 in the Quentin Security Series. This is the story of Clay and Abilene 'Abby'. This was a standalone book for me. Clay and Abby happen to meet and it leads them to have a one and done hot encounter or so that what Abby thought. So when she arrives in town to take care of Violet a older who who helped raise her she meets Clay again. Clay is Abby's brother Con best friend and to top that she will be working with him at their company. Clay can't get past their encounter but Abby tries with no luck then she finds herself in danger after finding out an old family secret. Now Clay is on protective watch over her. I did enjoy this book and will be looking for more from this author.

Abby wants after a long time to just let loose and have some fun, and she got lucky and spent one hot night with a stranger. What she doesn't expect is to see him at work on Monday and that he is one of her brother's best friends. Clay thinks that stranger will be just that a one-hot night-stand but Abby turns into more and he will do everything to keep her. So the story was interesting with an interesting plot and a mystery with suspense but the characters... I just couldn't relate to; Abby was too much complicated and not my type, Clay was ok alpha but I didn't fell in love with him. The plot was the only one that kept me going and all the who did it.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley

This was A great conclusion to a really good suspense romance series. I've been eager for Abby and Clay's story forever and it did not dissapoint. As usual the book is filled with suspense and intrigue along with steamy romance. I would definitely recommend it.

Abilene “Abby” Quentin has returned to help take care of her guardian, Violet, who is the only real “mother” that Abby has ever known. Soon, Violet’s declining mental health requires that she move to an assisted living facility. Abby still has nightmares from an earlier time, not knowing who the man is that she sees in her nightmares. A bar, a one-night stand…Abby’s meeting with Clay Thompson will change her life forever. Abby is working for her brother at Quentin Security Group when her one-night stand walks in the door. Clay is employed at QSG and is still dealing with anger issues from his childhood, but Abby has affected him in ways he had not thought possible. Questions soon arise over Violet’s teen daughter who committed suicide years ago and Violet’s second marriage and divorce from Charlie, who is missing. An intriguing romantic suspense, but can Clay let go of his anger and become the man that Abby needs? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. This book felt way too rushed and had way too many typos and contradicting statements. Before we even knew Clay’s name, it was used instead of “he”. Also where Abby went to school changed halfway through. Clay came across as a stalker and aggressive and it was written off as love and attraction. This felt a little too obsessive to me. The plot was forced and their connection did not feel genuine.

3.5 rounded down to 3 stars.

This is book 5 in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Trigger warnings include suicide and reference to rape/attempted rape.

This had several tropes that I love in a romance: one night stand turns into co-worker, friend’s sister, and alpha male. There’s plenty of steam and a plot that keeps the book interesting and moving forward.

Clay is alphahole extraordinaire but had a big, sweet heart underneath. Abby is quick-witted and I loved the banter between her and Clay.

There were a few things that did bother me about the book. First, some of the relationship tensions between our MC’s and family members were resolved too quickly. Second, there were some pretty big events that ended abruptly and I feel there was no real closure. Third, the author did more telling than showing. I like to be shown and draw my own conclusions versus being told.

And, fourth, that ending came out of nowhere. It will segue into the next book but it felt if out of place. It was quick read and overall was enjoyable!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy!

Interesting and enjoyable read
This is the 5th book in the Quentin Security series.
As I’ve found, this being my first by the author, these books can be read as standalones.
This is Clay and Abby’s Book

Good writing that definitely holds your attention and the characters have a wonderful chemistry between them.
The story begins when the two have a one night stand, not knowing that he works for her brother.
Con the brother is my favourite, I love his protective nature and the way he loves his sister.
This is in parts tense and others passionate.
A good read

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Tempting the Devil by Morgan James
Quentin Security Series #5

Sizzling romance with a healthy dose of mystery and suspense ~ Could not put it down! And, not having read previous books in the series was no problem at all as this story was complete in and of itself. That said, the hook at the end did make me want to find out what will happen next.

What I liked:
* The hot first night that was meant to be a one-night stand
* Abilene “Abby” Quentin: computer degree, back in town to care for her guardian and work for her brother, intelligent, talkative, sassy, knows what she wants, strong, independent, has memories she can’t explain – perfect for Clay.
* Clay Thompson: ex-Marine, twin, lethal, dyslexic, works for Quentin Security, falls hard for Abilene, has issues with his father that need to eventually be resolved, good friend of Abby’s brother Con, perfect for Abilene.
* Con: businessman, ex-Marine, big brother to Abilene, protective, intriguing, interested in finding out who he ends up with and think his book could be next.
* The mystery behind the dreams Abilene has and how that ties into more…
* The writing, plot, and location of the story
* The relationship between Clay and his twin Cole – would like to find out who Cole ends up with eventually.
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* The people and events I was meant not to like…won’t specify because it would give the story away.

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and ??? for the ARC – this is my honest review.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The part of the story that dealt with the “mystery” kept me reading and interested in finding out what happened.

The first half of the book was devoted more to Clay and Abby’s contentious relationship. I thought the voice of the characters in that part of the story was immature for the age they appeared to be. There was a lot of repetition of the negative self talk about the wisdom of their relationship. Most of it was unnecessary drama, in my opinion. I say that because the second half of the book was less focused on them and more on the suspense.

I give credit to the author for creating a character with dyslexia, how it is misdiagnosed and the impact that has on the individual.

I received an advance copy of this book in advance. This is a voluntary review.

My first time reading this author and series, this book hangs together well as a stand-alone but there are clearly some familiar characters from previous books so it might be enhanced somewhat by back reading the series first.

Interesting characters, there are so sticky situations, misunderstandings, laugh out loud moments and familial drama abound here with a pacy storyline that will take you along for the ride.

Abby is a determined character who goes from seeming quite shy and quiet in the beginning to really finding herself once she knows what she wants. She and Clay are like chalk and cheese in so many ways but strangely complement each other well and so it all just works.

The backstory that leads into the drama is well set up, with enough detail given to fill you in but not so much your timeline gets lost in the narrative. As much time is spent on the romance side of this story and the suspense and that balance works well here.
Clay falls hard and quick but fights it a little in the beginning. His dawning realisation and efforts to win Abby back are fun to read about.

I enjoyed this story and found myself very carried away by it, barely putting it down till I got to the end.

I find myself eager to see what happened between Con and Grace so will be looking out for the next book in the series.

I received a copy of this arc in return for my honest feedback.

Abby and clay meet up and spend the night together, without getting either's name. Then a few days later, they are shocked to learn they are co-workers, and Clay is a friend of Abby's brother. Not only is this relationship a puzzle, Abby finds disturbing information about her family which interferes as well. A really good book, that's fun to read and just enough mystery to keep you entertained..

3/5 stars

Clay and Abby had a very passionate romance. It started off enemies to lovers in a way. Clay had a lot of baggage from his previous relationship. Abby is going through some life changes and dealing with a sick step parent.

I really liked Abbys personality. She was opinionated and stuck to her guns until Clay got close. Which was a little annoying. Their love was very insta love. And he was pushy almost to the point of harassment which she realized but ignored. Which was a frustrating part of the story. He broke into her house a few times and it just made me dislike him.

Clay had some baggage but I don’t feel like it really lined up. He was worried about being cheating on based on previous relationship but we didn’t see that at all with Abby. So I feel like his baggage was almost superficial. He was possessive of Abby and any concerns he had went out the window really fast. I think he could have had more character growth.

Overall this was a steamy romance that I did enjoy. I just didn’t jive with the characters as much as I thought I would.

Abby moves back to Dallas to help with her family, because she knows that is who is most important. On one of her first nights she meets a man at the bar and even though she never gets his name, she feels they have a connection. When she shows up to work and sees him there she has to decide if the connection was real or just in her head. Clay didn’t expect to ever love anyone ever again, but after one night with Abby he is beginning to think he might have to change all of this rules. These two have to fight against their pasts to see if they might have a future. This book is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book.

This book has all the good stuff.. suspense, romance, sexy times, conflict and love. Very enjoyable and highly recommend.

This is a romance and mystery wrapped up in one. The title doesn't really match up with the story, I found the story much better than the title suggests. The ending fell a little flat for me, but overall it was a really good read.

Tempting the Devil was a very readable story that was full of steam and interesting characters and as a new reader to the series I found it easy enough to follow along with. However, I didn't find it anywhere near as suspenseful as I was anticipating and if I'm honest the conclusion to it felt a little unfinished. But I enjoyed reading it nonetheless, and the secondary characters certainly piqued my interest enough to want to read more in the future.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I had never read anything by Morgan James before, so this was my first read of this series. I think Abby and Clay’s meet cute was great, and something I haven’t seen done quite like this. The triller aspect of this book was also very well done. The ‘bad guy’ was still a mystery up until they were revealed. Unfortunately in the version I read there were a lot of grammatical errors. So many that I kept being taken out of the story. That being said, I am still looking forward to reading other books by Morgan James.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Morgan James for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is book 5 in a series. I think I have read one of the others. Regardless, this reads great as a stand alone. This book has a little of everything, romance, mystery, murder, suspense. I liked the main characters Abby and Clay and actually all of the cast. 4 stars. I think most romance readers would enjoy this book. Fast easy read.

An easy read to wile away the day, night, weekend. Whilst it didn't require much brain power it was entertaining enough to be thoroughly enjoyable. I hadn't read the other books in this series but will now. If you are looking for an easy holiday read this is it.
