Graywolf's "The Art of" series is an incredible resource, and this title is a great addition to their collection. As Davies points out, revision isn't often discussed in craft conversations, despite how important it is. At their worst, craft books are too prescriptive or vague. The best offer as many questions as they do answers, and invite you to rethink certain aspects of the writing process or written work, and "The Art of Revision" is one of those. We have lots of cultural ideas about revision, but unlike other craft elements, revision cannot be observed or learned through analysis of a polished, published piece. Thank you to Graywolf Press, and to Peter Ho Davies, for this work!

I'm a big fan of Graywolf's The Art Of series and I was excited to see one on revision, which is arguably the most important aspect of writing, yet one that's rarely taught. Written by Peter Ho Davies, this book offers personal anecdotes, musings, and revision examples from writers like James Joyce and Frank O'Connor, managing to be both enjoyable and informative. Highly recommend!
