What would you do if you moved into your new home and started finding disturbing things that make you believe that something very wrong with the family who lived there before you? Things like strange messages written on your bedroom wall, hidden behind the wallpaper and holes for locks on the outside of the bedroom doors?

And then you realise that the family who lived there before you has only moved a short distance away and that the new girl at school, who requested you for their buddy, and who actually wants to be your friend, is from that family?

That is the situation that Tom finds himself in. And Tom is very familiar with dangerous family situations. Before his mum married Jay she had had some abusive and violent boyfriends that taught Tom the signs to look out for and how to survive the impossible.

This is a page turning psychological thriller that will keep you reading later than your bedtime.

I don't want to give any spoilers, so I will just say thatI loved this book.

The author has managed to instil a sense of menace and unease within a deceptively everyday setting. Despite everything, the characters feel real and the sort of people who you might live next door to, which makes what happens even more scary.

If you love a spine chilling psychological thriller then this is a book for you.

Thanks fro NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the review copy of this book

It was nice to have a YA book, especially a mystery, with a male protagonist! That's not super common and is something I have noticed when reviewing YA books. A good, creepy book that will fulfill a haunted house craving. For adults, pair with Home Before Dark by Riley Sagar.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, SOURCEBOOKS fire and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

Fast paced, hard to put down, suspenseful.

When Tom's family moves into a new house, they thought it was a fresh start. But Tom starts noticing strange things about the house- like holes for a lock on the OUTSIDE of bedroom doors. As a teen already struggling with anxiety and OCD tendencies, he's now questioning- is he paranoid, or did something really happen here?
This story is slow moving to begin with, and didn't go the direction I expected. With short chapters, and unexpected twists, this one kept me turning the pages.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy for review.

I've read Vincent ralph's "14 ways to die" last year and it truly was one of The beste books I've read in 2021. So, needless to say, I was pretty excited to get the arc for "lock the doors.

This book, however, was a huge disappointment. Even though I usually like short chapters, these ones felt disconnected. Like the story was getting broken up between chapters and there wasn't a flow. I also couldn't connect to any of the characters and felt like a few things were a bit too forced. I did enjoy the premises of the book, though.

Massive thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this ARC!

I loved the short chapters, it really got me hooked straight away and made the story really pacey. There were so many times when I would say “just one more chapter” and this turned into several. The story was just so compelling.

Although I had worked out some of the twists and turns myself, the story was just so engaging! I couldn’t wait to devour it!

I’ve already recommended it to so many people before finishing it and I know I will continue to do so!

Tom is still healing from his traumatic experiences with the father figures in his early years, while his mom has moved on and married a nice guy. In their new home, Tom finds some disturbing things in his new bedroom that make him believe that whoever lived there before him was in danger. When he meets new classmate, Amy, at school and realizes she used to live in his new home, he takes it upon himself to figure out what happened in that house. While this book constantly had me guessing, once the truth was revealed, as a new parent it was a little too disturbing to me. I enjoyed it, and am sure others who love suspense and thrillers will too, but hit me a bit differently now that I have a small child.

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It's a great, unputdownable YA book. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

It has really short chapters (which i prefer) and it was easy to read! I really liked this book, so i’ll probably give it a 4-5/5 stars :)

This one had promise, but was weighed down by unlikeable characters and a plot that just ran out of steam. I probably won't recommend this to anyone and had a hard time finishing.

Lock the Doors is The Perks of Being a Wallflower meets the Adam's Family, with a terrific twist no one will see coming.

Thank you Sourcebooks Fire and NetGalley for the digital arc.

Lock The Doors was a really good book! It immediately caught my attention and kept me guessing throughout the story and there were so many unexpected twists and turns. I loved the characters and their relationships. I appreciated the variety of characters and it is not very often you come across characters with OCD, so that was a nice addition as well. Overall it was very well written and the story was great!

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read Lock the Doors.

Honestly, I wasn't too sure in the beginning if this was a book for me those when I read the first few chapters.
But, I were surprised. It gave me chills and ended up enjoying it.
Exciting to follow the characters through this story, how friendship grows while they try to figure out this mystery.

Lock The Doors by Vincent Ralph was an unforgettable experience filled with exploration of family trauma, all while figuring out a mystery that might just be bigger than what you think it is, and might just cost you your life.

It's the trauma for me. First few chapters, and I was so uncomfortable with how the book discussed Tom's trauma (I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just that it felt too close to home and it was triggering me). The short chapters made this book appealing because it keeps you wanting more. Literally once the whole mystery starts to click, I couldn't stop thinking about this book.

The ending was built-up really well, in my opinion. The whole journey, it's unforgettable. There were surprises alright, and I wasn't able to guess what was coming.

Writing-wise, it's also great, so over-all, I'm giving this book a 4.5 star rating.

This will be out from Sourcebooks Fire on March 1, 2022 so watch out!

Note that I was sent an early reading copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley, nevertheless, this is an honest review and all thoughts are mine.

This was such an intense read! At each chilling discovery I was eagerly turning the pages because I had to know what was going on - was it paranoia on Tom's part, and is Amy the victim or villain? By the time I got to the end, my jaw was on the floor. I thought that this was well written, and it was very easy to just get sucked into the story.

5 stars
I enjoyed the story, it kept me on my toes the entire time. it was a great novel. Very pleasant surprise. The writing was wonderful.
It seemed like a great way to introduce an OCD character in a real way. The main characters are teenagers.

I give this one a 5/5!

This is the first book I’ve read by Vincent Ralph and it definitely will not be the last! I was completely obsessed with this book and needed to know what was going to happen! The author wrote this in different POV which I absolutely LOVED because you could understand what was going on from the different characters points of views, which I feel like definitely helped out with the story. This book kept me guessing as to what was going on and every time I would Come up with a theory, another twist would happen! I absolutely love books that have short chapters because it makes it so much more fast paced. Additionally, the plot was one that I haven’t read before so it definitely makes the book stand out!

There are TW for this book, so make sure to look them up before you read it! Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the advanced copy in return for an honest review!

This was not at all what I thought it would be - its better.

I will not go into details about the plot, suffice it to say it was twisted, dark and I never saw it coming.

The pace was just perfect and the characters managed to be quite fleshed out considering the main plot.

I kept thinking I knew the ending and I changed my mind about 4 times - which, to me, is a sign of a really good book.

Thank you Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire, Sourcebooks Fire for the arc of this book. What a wonderful surprise this book was. The writing was great and really kept me reading. The story was intriguing and had a vague creepiness throughout it all. Tom was a wonderful character and I thought his touch of OCD brought him a realistic side. This is listed as a YA book, but that is probably because the main characters are teenagers. Don't let the YA label deter you from this fantastic book!

It always takes a bit of time getting used to a new home, and it doesn’t help when one doesn’t really want to move in the first place. When Tom moves into a new home, he notices some chilling details about the house that no one else seems to mind, namely that there are locks on the outside of two-bedroom doors, and that the wall under the paper in his bedroom is covered in handwriting, all spelling the same thing: “Help me.” The ultimate dénouement is pretty incredible in that I highly doubt it would ever happen (please?) but the lead-up is an intriguing exploration into the dynamics of a blended family. Ralph sure knows how to set a steadily creepy mood without repeating himself, which as a writer myself, I find pretty awe-inspiring.
