3.5⭐️

Thank you Netgalley and wednesday books for providing me with an arc of this book for my honest opinion.

I actually enjoyed this book more than the first one.

The grief both of the twins are going thru is so sad and trying to express grief even for adults is hard. The anger hunter is going thru and being turned in the wrong direction is understandable.

I loved the aspect of the land of the dead and how it played into this book.

I cannot see what book 3 brings.

Mercy and Hunter, the twins have lost their mother. They are mourning her death. Mercy and Hunter are witches that will become the guardians of the gates to different mythological worlds. After failing to heal the ancient sacred trees, the teens go their separate ways. Hunter is under the patronage of a Greek goddess while Mercy is introduced to the land of the Egyptian dead by a warrior. Will the twins reconcile? The sisters develop their powers separately. They have experiences separately.

The book starts out slowly but moves up to pace toward the ending. In the beginning of this novel, I wasn’t sure if I could read it. As I got father into the novel, it became easier to read. I liked the book but wished I had known it was the second book. I thought it was the first book initially. I like reading the book but I do think I would had enjoyed it more if I had read the first book. P.C. Cast is an excellent author.

I thought this was a very interesting book and concept. I like how it built off of the first one. There was drama, tension, and I enjoyed the characters. Was really excited to get this book!

This is the second book in the Sisters of Salem Series. This book picks right up where the first one left off. Mercy and Hunter, twin witches who are direct descendants of the Goode witches, are dealing with the death of their mother in their own ways. They are left to protect the gates to 5 other worlds and to keep them safe and secure. They each believe that that they are doing is right and correct, but can they defend the gates when they can't even get along?

“Omens Bite”

Wow. The second iteration in this trilogy hooked me.

Mercy and Hunter Goode are at odds. Goodeville is consumed by anger, hatred, violence, and the twins are deeply mired in it. Each knows she can save the town without the other- after all, who really needs a twin who is ALWAYS drama after all? Hunter is bitter at having been forced to forsake her god, and is battling another for everything that is sacred to her. Mercy searches for love in all the wrong places and gets a bit stuck in a sandy situation. Can Hunter pry her soul from the arms of a vengeful goddess? Can Hunter and Xena (the Maine Coon cum familiar) save Mercy before it’s too late? Tune in next book because this, too, ended on a cliffhanger.

So, again, there are a few misconceptions and liberties taken with various deities, places, etc. The concept of “Egyptian hell” isn’t exactly right, but I can give creative leeway when a book is well written. Kudos to the Casts for using the word for a group of ravens, unkindness. (They’re also called a conspiracy of ravens.) I’m eagerly anticipating book 3. Four stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader and audiobook copy of Omens Bite by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast in exchange for an honest review. I originally received the ebook and was looking forward to reading the second book in the series. Then the audiobook became available and I just decided to listen to it. This was a great second book. It was a little hard to listen to as Mercy and Hunter's mom died in the first book and they are dealing with the grieving process and my mom just died. I loved the storyline and am very excited for the next book. I really enjoyed how the authors showed how much perception shapes reality.

Wow.

This book follows along from the first with the twin witches reeling from the loss of their mother and trying to heal the gateways into other realms. With the help of demi-gods, gods, goddess, friends, and a feline familiar the twins must stop an evil in their town and save all five gateways….without losing themselves along the way.

Ok so this book was a mix of things for me. While I wasn’t exactly a fan of the catty petty high school drama, it adds to the story of the sisters. There’s a few mysteries in this story that you don’t really get answered fully and then you are left with a really wild ending. I have no idea what is happening with Mercy, the trees, if Hunter was able to stop evil seeping out of the mythology realms, if Amphitrite is good or evil, is Khenti going to survive? So many questions and I’m left waiting for the next book. Please….please don’t make me wait for very long!

Omen’s Bite picked up right where we left off in the previous book with our Goode twin witches on the outs. With Hunter’s goddess being duplicitous & the entirety of the town going topsy turvy.. this book is not one you want to miss if you loved the previous book!

Similarly to the first book, this book does end in a cliffhanger leaving the reader wondering just what is going to happen next with these teenage witches!

A solid sequel to Spells Trouble! This book did not disappoint and was not a letdown. The characters were more distinct and definitely developed more personality throughout the entire book, especially the twins. And the magic…well, let’s just so there were no complaints here!

This book was an easy enthralling read and I highly recommend you pick it up.

I was so excited for the sequel in the Sisters of Salem series but Omen's Bite fell short for me. It left me with more questions than answers. What happens to Mercy in the end? Is she stuck in Hell? The epilogue suggests that another book may be coming but I wasn't aware of that! I will continue the series but I'm hoping for a better story in the next book.

Ever since the first Sister’s of Salem novel I’ve been eager to find out what happened to Mercy and Hunter Goode.

This second installment was bigger, bolder, and more intense in all the right ways. The magic system and deities that are weaved throughout the story are amazing. The world building was kicked up a notch (or 10) and I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to get an inside look of one of the gates. It was something I hoped for through out Spells Trouble, and it did not disappoint.

I was also thrilled with the amount of character development not only with the sisters but also with some of the secondary characters. Hunter and Mercy were always their own people but it was great to see them really take reign of their own paths through out the book.

I cannot wait to see where the next book takes us and will be anxiously awaiting a resolution to Mercy’s predicament.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought that I would. Both of the sisters were unlikeable and the storyline was fast paced.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and in exchange for an honest review.

My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A continued magical saga centering around two teenage witches and their struggle to protect all they love.

OMENS BITE returns with our young twin witches, Mercy and Hunter, exactly where we left them. The loss, emotions, and repercussions of the previous events surrounding their mother’s death as well as the decaying of the Gates is the catalyst for questionable magical choices and heightened reactions. Teenagers can be rash and sensitive in normal circumstances, but the authors push our characters to the limit as they journey down separate paths.

What is so wonderful about this series is how the authors build the world centered around the Goode witches. There is history, lore, and otherworldly elements. All of which explored within the prose enhance the tale. As they learn, so does the reader. This gradual development of how things interconnect is compelling and positively enjoyable. And let us not forget the bonuses of having the mythology of the Egyptian Underworld brought into the mix, murderous monsters, certain Goodeville citizens looking to take action against our young witches, and the hate growing in Goodeville. It is great how much this sequel is giving us all the intrigue, magic, and darkness a fantasy lover could want.

All in all, experiencing how Hunter’s choices push her to the breaking point while Mercy’s leave her in peril pushes the reader further down the rabbit hole of Goodeville’s complicated past and present. We are one step closer to finding out how this will all end and I for one am excited to get the next book.

Thank you to Wednesday Books and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This was quite painful to read at times and the 180 of character personalities was really annoying. Someone put these twins in some therapy. They need help not magic. Yikes.

Omen's Bite picks up were Spells Trouble leaves off. Mercy is still reeling from her mother's death. Hunter is bitter and resentful that she gave up her god for no reason. Now that she's pledged herself to Amphitrite's service, she must answer to the goddess. When it seems like the goddess might have answers to why the trees are dying, Hunter is desperate to find an answer and turns to dark magic.

This one was definitely darker than the first book. The majority of this book was annoying af to read. I hated the drama between the twins. Both of them are accountable, but Mercy really did somethings that she needs to rethink. She needs to reevaluate her priorities and how she deals with anger.

I wish I could say I disliked this enough to call it quits with this series, but the ending has me curious and I still do like Hunter. Mercy I could do without but I am curious to see if she'll make it out of this situation she put herself in. Tho I will say she did good when she hexed that one bastard.

The second book was much slower for me than book one. I thought parts dragged on, and I really did not like Mercy or Hunter. I felt like they really lost their spark from book one. Both girls were very selfish and self absorbed. I was disappointed in where their characters were compared to where they were in book one.

The ending though gets very exciting! I was flipping through pages and felt like everyone was finally getting back where they belong. Overall, the ending made up for the whole book.

The second in the Sisters of Salem series, this follows the continued adventures of Hunter and Mercy Goode as they deal with the fallout of the death of their mother and the deteriorating gates of Goodeville.

The twins are very different and handle things as the teenagers they are - not always the best way, and with a little more drama.

I liked the story, but wanted to wring the necks of the twins and lock them in a room so to make them talk to each other. This book is a solid 2nd book in a series, and starts answering questions that were raised in the first book, while introducing more questions and complications.

Solid book, for those that enjoy supernatural teens (think Buffy, Sabrina). Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoyed Omens Bite much more than I enjoyed Spells Trouble. In Spell Trouble I felt like I was slogging through some chapters to get to the end of the book. In Omens Bite, I did not want to put the book down.

I am a little concerned about Amphitrite, she is pretty fishy. Kirk is also a worrisome character. Hunter and Mercy need to have a serious talk with each other. There is just so much unfinished business. I can't wait for book #3 to see what happens to the twins and their town next.

I was so excited to get back into the series and figure out what was going to happen next. I really started to enjoy the first book near the end, feeling like it picked up a little more speed and the plot was coming together more.
It was interesting to get back into the mythology and the sister's witch history, but the dialogue was again a little cringy. I am not sure if a true teen would think it felt a bit much, but as an adult reader, I did skim through that a bit.
The romance was unnecessary and I am so frustrated when it is added in and not really needed for the plot. Just leave it out, not everything needs to be about love. I wish more books would focus on friendship, standing up for yourself and teaching society that being coupled does not matter. There is so much more than that.
Like the first book, Omen's Bite picked up near the end and that is when I got more into the book I wish the authors could take that same spacing and intensity and bring it in earlier in the story.
All in all, middle of the road YA fantasy. Enjoyable but not going on my list of all-time favorites.

That you NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the eARC of Omens Bite to read and review!

I'll be honest, I wasn't going to originally request this book to read, because the first one was, fine, I thought, but didn't really rock my socks. The first half of Omens Bite was a bit of a rough read for me. In Spells Trouble, Hunter was my favorite character ad Mercy was definitely secondary for me. In book 2, both sisters were kinda annoying me, until about halfway, when I started to prefer Mercy. Hunter was making some pretty ridiculous decisions, and while he feelings were justified, her actions in accepting Amphirite were wearing on me. I really enjoyed Mercy's storyline with Khenti and the Egyptian underworld, it was a biota a surprise, but definitely helped with my enjoyment of the book. I think I my biggest issue is the story just felt like it was building for so long and then we finally get to some fun action about 75% way and then we end on a bit of a cliffhanger. I don't like leaving stories unfinished, so I definitely want to continue the series, I just hope the next book doesn't take quite so long to pull me in.

Omens Bite (Sisters of Salem, #2)
by P.C. Cast
a Dark twist to reality. A witch is fooled by a god, not that special but her misconception puts the world at risk. The dark look at human nature, our need to have a higher authority able to give us reason is a human trait. P.C. Cast takes this to a supernatural nature. As sisters Mercy and Hunter come to a head after the tragic loss of their mother. They are faced with a deadly threat, personally and globally as they lose control of their gate keeping occupation.
