Enjoyable read, if a little slow at times but picks up pace towards the end.

Im never disappointed with a Sue Watson book. The plot grabbed me straight away. So many twists and turns and it had me from start to finish.

From childhood sweethearts to newlyweds. Lauren and Sam seem to have it all. That is until Lauren is found dead at the bottom of the stairs. So many secrets in this nail biter that will keep you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you know, Sue Watson does what she does best and pulls the rug right from under ya. Enjoy!

Sam and Lauren are childhood sweethearts who get married. Sam's mother, Georgie, is so happy and proud. That is until a few months later Lauren is dead and the police are investigating Sam's possible involvement. Georgie is determined to stand by her son, but as the secrets are revealed that becomes harder to do. I am a huge Sue Watson fan and this book with all its twists and turns had me wondering the outcome all the way to the end.

How well do you really know your loved ones? This is the question that the author has the reader pondering while reading The New Wife.

Georgie's son, Sam, and Helen's daughter, Lauren, are engaged to be married. Georgie and Helen have been best friends since their children began preschool, and the families are as thick as thieves. The young couple has been dating since they were teenagers and now are young adults beginning their careers, purchasing a house, and embarking on their adult lives together. The next step is their marriage!

Both mothers are shocked and disturbed after Lauren is found dead three months after the marriage, and Sam is arrested and charged with her murder. Georgie cannot believe that her beloved son would do something like this, much less to the woman he loved. Georgie sets out on a mission to determine who really killed Lauren—but what if she finds out it really was her son?

Georgie was a likeable narrator, and I was engrossed in the plot throughout. The story got really intriguing in the past quarter as many more secrets were revealed about all of the characters. I would recommend this text to those who like thrillers. I plan to read more from this author in the future. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this title.

5 stars! This psychological thriller was well-written and engaging. Definitely recommend!

Sam Moore was marrying his childhood sweetheart, Lauren Jackson. Three months later, Sam came home late from work and found Lauren in the hallway. It seemed she’d probably been rushing down the stairs and slipped, banging her head on the stone floor. The injuries aren’t conducive to accidental death. Apparently there were signs of a struggle.

Not only Sam had lost his wife, but he was now a suspect, being accused of something he didn’t do. Helen, Lauren's mother having a heavy mourning, it seems that Helen wants Sam to be convicted, whether he’s guilty or not. But Georgie, Sam's mother knows otherwise.

This is from Georgie's pov. She realises now that regardless of how close you might feel to someone, everyone has their secrets, and secrets usually lead to lies. She has to do whatever possibly can to prove her only son innocence.

*WOW WOW WOW* Sue Watson does it again!

Ever questioned how well you know your family and friends? No.. well after reading this book you will!

Two families are brought together when their children Sam and Lauren meet at preschool 23 years later Sam and Lauren marry but just 3 months later Laren is dead, found by Sam at the bottom of the stairs of their Dartmoor Cottage.

The two families who have always been really close through the years, even holidaying together now start to fall apart, separately and as a group. Things get even more tense and strained when the police decide that this wasn't an accidental death... she was pushed !

Each and every character is superbly executed, each character and their own story is strong cleverly entwined within the storyline.

There are a lot of eye rolling moments, there are alot of implausible moments but this didn't actually take anything away from the read. It was fun, fast paced, melodramatic at times and has a real rollercoaster ending.

A great psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns... all you want and more.

Now, in their twenties, they have just got married and moved into a lovely cottage on Dartmoor. Anaccident is suspected at first but it soon becomes clear that the police suspect murder with Sam being their main suspect. Sam is arrested and Georgie is determined to clear his name but begins to find that things were not as she thought as she becomes caught up in a web of secrets, lies and betrayals. As Georgie begins to discover what really happened to Lauren she finds every one seems to be hiding something and doesn’t know who to trust and that even her own life may be in danger. This book is a fascinating read as the characters develop and the plot unfolds and will keep you guessing until the end. A really good read, highly recommended.

And that means uncovering some closely guarded secrets as well.

The New Wife is about family, secrets, and lies. The story is told from Georgie’s point of view, with backstories and various timelines. The author does a good job presenting all the many stories and the characters are interesting. The plot is well-conceived, with unexpected twists and revelations.

However, I found Georgie to be irritating to the point it made me want to shake her. Indeed, there weren’t any characters that I particularly liked so it was a matter of deciding which ones were the least unlikeable. And, unfortunately, the story itself seemed to drag a bit. Towards the latter half it picked up the pace quite well, but there were times that it was a very slow burn and I would have liked the story to move forward a bit faster.

Sue Watson is a good writer with clever and original plots and I’m looking forward to reading more from her.

Everyone has a secret in this twisted tale of deception and betrayal. No one is who they appear to be and the stakes are high in keeping the perception of perfection alive. My belief in who the villain was behind the tragic death of the newlywed changed as events unfolded. The final twist was a total shocker. This thriller was gripping from start to finish. This is my first book by Watson it won't be my last. It kept me if my toes the whole time to the very end. I had love/ hate relationship with the character in the book. But overall the story and writing was amazing. I would recommend it.

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed a couple of Sue Watson's previous books, I was looking forward to reading this one and Wow, I certainly wasn't disappointed.
Well written characters who you can easily empathise with, and so fast paced as the story developed, this book has it all.
I can't wait to read the next book from Sue. Highly recommended.

This is not my first Sue Watson read, but it might be my last. While I enjoyed the mystery and presence of the book, I just feel overwhelmed by all the repetition and slow-burn of the mystery with everything just bubbling over at the end. Because of this, I just don't think this book was my cup of tea and I can't recommend it.

The beginning of the book was a little jumbled. The transition from finding out Lauren had been murdered, to introductions and back stories was messy and could have been formatted and laid out better. Once the book got going and we caught up with present time trying to solve the murder I liked it better. It was nice reading it as an outsider. The mother-in-law of the deceased. We only saw her perspective, we didn’t see the cops and what they knew or found, we didn’t see her son, the husband, the first to be accused when a wife is murdered. And we didn’t see Lauren’s parents, and the narrators best friends complex reaction to the loss of their daughter and possible loss of a son in law and friend.

I spent the book trying to decide who was responsible. Small clues throughout the book try to lead you in the right direction, while others definitely lead you astray. It definitely keeps you guessing for quite some time.

However, I could have done without the epilogue. Maybe skip that part on your read, unless there’s going to be another story to follow…

I thought this was a good read. I've read another book from this author, The Forever Home, and really enjoyed that. As Georgie delves into Sam and Lauren's life, she begins to see cracks and discovers she may not really know her daughter in law at all. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more from this author.

This was a fantastic read from Sue Watson. This book is a psychological thriller, but also a whole lot more. There is the central mystery of ‘whodoneit’, but the book is also so relatable and fun to read. My favorite character was Georgie, who I felt was just like listening to a best friend tell her story when her point of view came up. The book was almost interactive in that I felt that I was part of the group figuring out the mystery.

The central aspect running through this book is "how well do you really know someone"? Even someone you have known forever. Sam knew Lauren since the first day of nursing school and yet, she had some surprises in store for him. Not to give too much away, but I would give this book 4 stars and recommend it to anyone who loves a good domestic thriller with a side of crazy!

This is an excellent fast-paced addictive psychological thriller/domestic drama that will keep you guessing, lots of suspects, secrets and twists along the way make this an addictive read. Twists and turns and volatile unexpected ending that I did not see coming. Highly recommended!
