Local nurse, Kate Palmer and beau, Woody Forrest, had been enjoying a day together at the wedding of one of his friends when it ends in tragedy. Kate knows she has to discover who was responsible as quickly as possible especially as the new detective in charge seems to be enjoying Woody's company a little too much! When a vital clue is discovered, Kate may well be the one to solve the case but only at the expense of everything she holds dear.

This is the fourth book featuring Kate Palmer and is an excellent addition to this entertaining series. There is a new detective to deal with, Kate's sister, Angie, is now a successful business owner and both things add an extra edge to Kate's storyline. As always the writing is descriptive and atmospheric which, combined with a cast of familiar as well as new characters, make this a very entertaining read.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to a very good British cosy crime series.

Dee Palmer’s excellent series featuring nurse and amateur sleuth Kate Palmer continues with A Body at the Altar. Kate and her partner, former Tinworthy (Upper, Lower and Middle) D.I. Woody Forrest, are invited to attend the wedding of local plumber Joe Perry to Melissa Bowen, daughter of Dennis and Penelope Bowen. Penelope, a self-styled village community and social leader, is opposed to the marriage. Then as Kate and Woody watch, Joe drops dead before he can say his vows. This, of course, is bad enough, but Kate soon learns that other scheduled weddings in Tinworthy have been suddenly cancelled with no reasons given. Who could be threatening bride and grooms? And why? Soon Kate, and a reluctant Woody, are involved in the investigation and in danger themselves.

This series just grows stronger. Kate is a strong, intelligent character and her relationship with Woody is growing. Her gin swilling sister Angie and her boyfriend Fergal continue to amuse. The addition of new D.I. Charlotte Martin hints at plots to come. The Lower Tinwothy location, with its odd collection of residents, is charming. 5 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Dee MacDonald for this ARC.

Book 4 in the series....
Nurse Kate Palmer thought the pretty Cornish village of Tinworthy would be the perfect place for a peaceful retirement. She couldn’t have been more wrong! But even she is shocked when she attends a beautiful wedding at St. Pirin’s Church and the handsome groom drops dead in front of her very eyes.
Gripping read that I devoured in one sitting. Great cast of characters and good pacing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
