This book was intense. It’s not a fast paced book but it was fully immersive for me. I flew through this one. It’s been awhile since a book gripped me and literally kept me up turning the pages.

I had to know what was happening in this story and was she really crazy or not? I did suspect the who but i didn’t know the why. So i wasn’t too bothered by that. There were plenty of suspects and i did pretty much suspect almost everyone for being behind it all.

I felt like my anxiety was high throughout this book and i was transfixed to the very end. So many strange events.

Overall, a fantastic suspense novel & she remains an autobuy author for me.

I had high hopes for this book, but I lost interest. I know this is going to be popular though. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I wanted to love this book but just couldn’t. The story just rambled on and on and felt boring. The characters weren’t likable at all. Very disappointing.

This book was SO unsettling! At some points I put it down and didn't think I would be able to pick it back up. It was a great read!

This book was fantastic. Sarah Pinbrough has a way with words that makes you feel almost a sense of dread when you read. I definitely had this feeling while reading about Emma's struggle with insomnia and the paranoia that she would turn into her mother. It probably didn't help that I am also in the legal field and could relate to Emma in a lot of ways. Or maybe that's the point. Either way, I highly recommend this one to any thriller lovers out there and enjoyed it more than Behind Her Eyes.

Dang! Here's the thing about Sarah's books -- they are the kind of book where I don't even bother to make them the "what I am reading" title in my sig line. Because why spend time updating something I am going to have to update again almost immediately?! E.G. I downloaded my e-galley of INSOMNIA on 2/27 -- and here I am completing my feedback form on 3/1. Chilling! Thrilling! Maddening! And OMG, that epilogue callback? :: shivers ::

While I love most of Sarah Pinborough’s other novels, I found this premise really difficult to get into and also found the main character extremely unlikable. I had to DNF this title, even after giving it longer than I would most books because of this author. I can not recommend this title.

Sarah Pinborough has become an author whose books I will always read. Insomnia is a whirlwind of wtf. Emma has some trauma in her past, but she's moved past that and has a great job and an amazing family. But weird things begin happening and now she can't sleep. And she keeps returning to the night something terrible happened with her mother.

Now, Emma is almost 40--the same age her mother was when she was put into a mental institute--and she's afraid she's becoming just like her mom.

I read this book in one sitting because it was imperative that I see what was coming next. It was bizarre and creepy, and took on a subject that...well...you'll have to read it to find out.

I was drawn in by the story until near the end. It had twists and turns that kept me engaged. But, it seemed like the resolution came out of left field. The somewhat "mystical" explanation for the main character Emma's insomnia wasn't satisfactory for me.

A totally Creeptastic read! A true psychological thriller that will have you questioning your own sanity at times because it's such an immersive read (and checking the locks on your doors!) LOL.
It has my favorite unlikeable characters and excellent settings and back story. A real whodunit that will keep you guessing! I loved it!

This book just kept me reading at night and almost giving me Insomnia.
It has a storyline, which was making me feel a little crazy following it, but. I never guessed the ending, until right at the end, but not the reason why.
I had to take frequent breaks from reading it, because the book was giving me bad dream's
Though perhaps it was because of my mother having Alzheimer’s and my own personal fear of going insane as well.
You know you’re invested when that happens.
Sarah Pinborough has a marvelous mind to come up with the twisted idea of this book, and kudos to her!
Definitely a book to movie sort of book.
Solid four stars.

Love the cover, the book not so much.

The author has been a hit or miss with me, but when the blurb described this one as a "twisty, mind-bending thriller", I had to give it a try. Who doesn't love a twisty thriller?!

I'm going to describe this as extremely slow, and painfully repetitive. It wins for the most annoying and frustrating characters I've encountered in awhile. The constant whining was driving me crazy/mad!

Emma's insomnia, her paranoia, her sanity/insanity, her turning the big 4-0 (oh dreadful), the silly poem about candles, the awful husband, naive daughter and unconvincing plot made for a tedious read.

If you're a fan of the author, maybe it will work for better for you. It has 4 and 5 star reviews that might interest you.

It made me toss and turn, not from anticipation or being twisty, but from forcing myself finish it. Argh

Yikes ! Well this is sure to be a blockbuster hit .

I , like the rest of you, fell into love with Behind Her Eyes . Nail biting thrillers tend to be my “thing” . So when I saw Insomnia start to circulate I knew I would stop at nothing less than a kidney sale to get my hands on a copy !

And then…..

By the grace of the book gods I was granted my approval (insert my hair raising shriek of excitement)

This story is chilling, unsettling and will have you constantly thinking about it long after you conclude . Are you sold yet ? You should be . This was a fantastic, mind blowing read and you bet I will be rereading it in the future .

What I love about Sarah Pinborough’s books is that they are wholly original, and always take big fictional risks. Sometimes the risks pay off and sometimes they don’t, but the experience of getting to the end is always a unique and wild ride.

This book was a mixed bag for me because there was a lot to like here, but one or two big things I didn’t like. I’ll approach each in turn.

WHAT I LIKED: The fantastic and addictive and unique writing. Pinborough is so talented at weaving complex and original tales and I always enjoy her page-turning prose. Here it was interesting because the writing style was more disjointed, but this seemed intentional, and successfully gave you the feeling of being in the head of an insomniac who may or may not be going mad.

WHAT I ALSO LIKED: The subject matter. As a fellow insomniac, I could definitely relate to the horrible feeling of being unable to sleep and going slightly mad about it. I also know that some people are getting tired of the “is the main character going crazy or being gaslit?” narrative, but I most certainly am still a fan of this trope. I am here for the alternate reality plot lines, and he feelings of claustrophobia and terror, and the creepy dread about one’s one mental health. (Haven’t we all worried at times if we were going a little crazy?)

WHAT I DIDN’T LOVE: The execution. The first half of of the book was unusually slow for Pinborough and did not have the usual breakneck twists or brisk suspense I am used to from this author. I found myself a little bored, which is a shocker and a first for me from Pinborough. When the twists did come, they were fairly predictable, which I’m also not used to from this author. But she still managed to throw some curve balls and shocks my way.

OVERALL: Pinborough remains a cut above other suspense authors, and I will always read anything she puts out, no matter what the topic, because of her writing skill and her awesome plots and ideas. This one did not end up being one of my favorites and the execution was not on the level of Behind Her Eyes for me, but I am still glad I gave it a try.

This is quite a twisty thriller! It is excellently written, with a roller coaster plot that just doesn't stop until the exciting conclusion! The story centers on Emma, a successful attorney, with two children and a loving, stay at home husband. Just before her 40th birthday, her perfect life begins to unravel, as secrets from her childhood begin to haunt her. Sleep is elusive, no matter what she tries, and she fears she is going mad, as her mother did on her 40th birthday. As her world spirals out of control, she discovers there are many other secrets, past and present, tearing her world apart. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. 4.5 This is a well written twisty thriller that was hard to read. How much of her paranoia, fears etc were the result of not sleeping , how much of it was the family curse of "madness" hitting her exactly as it did her mother. Throw in a lot of people with motive to hurt her and some paranormal elements and there is an excellent tense thrilerto be read

This is my first book by this author, although I am familiar with the plot of BEHIND HER EYES. My biggest problem with this book is that I did not like any of the characters, except perhaps Emma's young son. Emma herself is quite unreliable, but, in my view, also unlikeable. That made it hard for me to care about anything that was going on. I did not have the mystery figured out, and the mystical element just plain confused me. I wanted to like the book more than I did. The book starts out twelve days before Emma Averell’s 40th birthday. Emma had a traumatic childhood when her mother on her 40th birthday, went mad. Emma is worried the same thing will happen to her when she suddenly develops insomnia just like her mother did. Strange things start happening to Emma and she truly believes she is going insane. Having insomnia, myself, I felt the author accurately portrayed what it’s like to go days without sleep. I also liked how each chapter was told in the number of days leading up to her 40th birthday. The ending was insane! If you liked Behind Her Eyes, you will definitely like this one!

Insomnia by Sarah Pinborough is a psychological thriller, it’s the story of Emma, a wife and mother, who just days before her 40th birthday starts having trouble sleeping. Not only does it bring back memories of her childhood but she begins to think she is going crazy, just like her mother told her she would when she was a young child.
