What a bingeworthy book!! This is my second book my this author, and I love her writing style. She completely immerses you in the story and characters. My only critique for this one was the characters didn’t feel like they were living in the 2010’s… the lingo was dated. Other than that, fantastic.

DNF 77%

Disappointing to say the least.
Had some good moments and scenes and a vibe that could have worked, but in the end it was Medicare from the narrative and the choices for the plot.

Thank you to Net Galley for giving me an access to this book.

Overall the story was good, it definitely had me guessing until the end.
There were multiple contenders for the killer who all could have had plausible motives.

However the relationship with Henry I hated and found so frustrating. His behaviour was so disturbing and I just couldn’t understand how Leo could keep allowing it and spend time with him.

I loved her best friend, she was so supportive.

I’ve given it a 3 star overall. It wasn’t the most exciting thriller I’ve read, it was Definitely slow at parts but it was interesting and I’d recommend it for a quick read.

This just wasn't for me. I didn't enjoy the writing, the plot was v predictable and the pacing wasn't quite right. A shame as the cover art is gorgeous.

This book didn’t reach my expectations. It sounded so good, hence why I requested, but then it just didn’t really do it for me. I still completed it, but it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be

Unfortunately this book was not for me. The storyline did not captivate me enough to push through. I am grateful for the opportunity to read this story however.

3 stars. The writing wasn't that great. I felt like things went a little too slow at times and fast at other times. It could have just been constructed a bit better. The synopsis sounds amazing but the overall product needs some work

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book had a pretty good mystery, but not super interesting characters. Overall, the mystery felt predictable, but it had just enough to keep me reading, even if it was just to see if my hunch was correct. The pacing felt slow and a bit boring, and the plot was strange and hard to follow at times. There were points where I wanted to just skip to the end to see if I was right. In conclusion, if you enjoy slightly cliched mystery novels, maybe give this one a try. 2/5 stars from me.

This book was the perfect blend of plot, romance and atmosphere.
I loved everything from characters to the mystery, it’s an amazing whodunnit.
But what was even more impressive was that the author actually managed to catch the YA vibes. Especially in the thriller genre I feel like adult authors write their teenage characters way too mature which makes everything unbelievable. But this didn’t happen here, I actually believed that these characters were teenagers. This book was an absolute joy ride!

3/5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this very enjoyable ARC for me to review!

A pretty good thriller that lived up higher than my expectations. The murder mystery, clues, characters were great. Few things i disliked were Henry and his entire personality, Leo and Becket’s dumbness.

Leo, the main character, didn’t work for me. I feel like her POV really limited the reader in terms of the atmosphere. However, i still enjoyed the experience, and most importantly, liked the story as a solid thriller overall.

I honestly was not a huge fan of this book. I found the book to be predictable and too much like many other thrillers I’ve read. I am sure that with so much content out there it is hard to think up an original story but I just felt like I was re reading a book because this was so similar to other books I have read.

Leocadia arrives home from school to find her mom’s body. Unaware that the killer still lingers, she rushes to her mother’s side, only to be grabbed from behind. And everything fades to black.

Leo has been battling personal demons after a year of retrograde amnesia. She’s been having vivid dreams of that day. And her dreams are getting worse—she’s starting to remember. Two more bodies are discovered and they are oddly linked to her mom’s unsolved homicide.

Leo befriends her new neighbor. He’s eager to visit Star Hallow’s notorious haunted mansion. It’s located on a deserted cul-de-sac where she once lived and where her mom was murdered. But it’s the Lucien Estate, the mansion next door to her old home, where they happen upon misty ghosts, ghosts that just might help to unravel the homicides.

Will Leo's memories send her reeling into a relapse, or will she be able to overcome her demons to find her mother’s killer – only to become the next victim?

I did not enjoy this book. It was too slow for me & I just could not get into the characters or story line.

This book was NOT GOOD. The writing was pretty terrible, the plot and pacing were convoluted and predictable. How this book has any good reviews is shocking. It’s extremely rare for me to rate any book under two stars (even two star ratings are fairly uncommon for me), but I just couldn’t give it more than one. It seemed like the author chose half her words from a thesaurus- there were so many goofy word choices. Honestly, if this hadn’t been a NetGalley read, I probably would have DNF’dif (which is also extremely rare for me).
There are so, so many good books out there. This was just a waste of time.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me access to this eARC.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book. Overall, not a great read for me. A bit slow and hard to get through but might be enjoyable for someone else.

CW: discussions of assault in various forms.

The cover art is excellent--that artist/designer deserves a world of credit for making a cover so striking that I went for this book knowing nothing about it (and kept trying to like it past when it felt possible.)

I just wish the book lived up to its cover in any way. YA mysteries are such a fun genre, but I got too uncomfortable reading this book to get any enjoyment from it. I felt the protagonist lacked agency, bandied about as she was between two boys who exhibited alarmingly toxic behaviors (with equally engaging justifications that go unchallenged in the text.) Ultimately, the mystery of what happened to the main character's mother is eclipsed by the trauma inflicted on her at every turn, which really undercuts the satisfaction of solving it. Which...kind of takes away the point of there BEING a mystery.

I don't know. I could be overly sensitive, or it's possible the review copy I received from NetGalley was much more rough around the edges than the next edition will be (as other reviewers have pointed out, a solid editor will need to take a look at this before it goes anywhere else.) But I just don't feel repeated assaults as a form of storytelling do it for me.

The creepy atmosphere really made me love this book, I loved the mystery aspect of the book. Don't forget to breath really gives twists and turns and keeps you guessing who the killer is, which is exactly what you want. I loved the characters and the chemistry between them. I would recommend everyone give this a go.

I really wanted to like this book but unfortunately I just could not stand it. I found myself skipping over certain parts just to get further ahead and see if the plot got better. There really wasn't a plot to the book other than the girl lost her memory of the day her mother was murdered and she just gets flash backs every now and again of what actually happened. Leading to what is supposed to be the big reveal but is actually obvious from the moment the character is introduced. The writing was not the best as well. The author used strange word choice when describing actions and body parts. It felt like they were trying too hard to use different words so it wouldn't be redundant but it was just weird. My least favorite part and what is the most worrisome to me is the example that the main character is setting for teenagers. While I don't have a problem with her character going through a drinking and drug problem to grieve and recovering from that I do have a problem with her interactions with her "love interests" in the book. Neither relationship was healthy. They were both extremely toxic. Especially the one with Henry. He forces himself on her in the first page of the book and she continues to be his friend. Then he drugs her later on without her consent and she acts like it is totally normal. Not okay. Not a good message to be writing about. There was a lot in this book that could have gone really well but instead the author did not seem aware enough of what they were writing about.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review.
