The characters in this book are depicted beautifully. It is a brave book to write and it is written well. A good book

Penny Freedman always rewards as well as entertains her readers. She is one of my favourite authors. In my opinion good writers need first to be good readers and she is most assured on the literary front. Her characters are beautifully drawn and their charm is compelling and addictive.
So many writers have been cowards and pretended the pandemic never happened it is a relief to find a writer who embraces it as an integral part of her plot.
I particularly liked the homage paid to the classic Josephine Tey novel, The Daughter Of Time, in which she pleads the innocence of the much-maligned King Richard III, with Freda looking again at the life and death of the tragic Amy Robsart.
A sophisticated, accomplished novel.

Three separate narrators really works here - they each bring such fascinating perspectives and getting to know each of them is an added bonus to a strong plot line. The COVID context is an interesting new angle amd the author manages to spin a great tale within the confines of a locked down world.

I found this book to be interesting. I wondered if I would like the way the narrative is delivered in three voices, but I got so invested in the story and how the author explains things that I didn’t even care. This is a really good book and this author is on my follow list on Amazon. Thank you to Matador, NetGalley and the author for allowing me an early peek at this wonderful book

The Oddest Of Times…
An unsuspecting Gina Gray finds mystery when she ventures to the Lake District in order to share a COVID isolation period with a friend. Relayed via three clear narratives this is a tale of intertwined mysteries in the oddest of times. A quirky, quick read.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of The Chronicles of Time by Penny Freedman in exchange for an honest review. Gina Gray heads up to the Lake District to spend time with her friend, Eve, taking her granddaughter, Freda, with her. It is March 2020, the beginning of covid isolation. They think it will only be three months. I found this an odd and quirky book. Living in the US during covid, wearing my mask, washing hands, it is a very odd time to be living in. This was the first book that has had covid as part of the storyline that I have read.

Now about Chronicles of the Time....
two things caught my attention here:
1. Penny Freedman 2. The description
Ever since the Pandemic started I've been so interested in books with Covid 19 settings.
And this one delivered everything I was anticipating here.
This mystery held my attention from first page to the last.
The characters are a great cast and deftly drawn.
I found this story drew me in immediately.
I really enjoyed the writing style.
